Burbank,CA phone book 1979!

Saw this at an estate sale today and couldn’t believe my eyes! Didn’t end up buying it because they wanted too much $$ (damn you Johnny Carson for being on the cover!) it also had lots of ads for businesses, kind of like a white pages and a yellow pages combined

Tasty BRC from El Primo truck, Van Nuys, CA

I was driving through the valley, hankering for a burrito, when I spotted two taco trucks parked next to each other. I chose El Primo because they also had $1.50 tacos today! While I found the Asada tacos kind of bland, the burrito really hit the spot! The staff was friendly and they had a wide array of self serve salsa, including a very yummy green avocado salsa! Burrito was eight dollars, which I also found to be a good value! Would probably pass on the tacos next time but the burrito was great and I would totally get it again!

Old drink coaster?

Found this at a yard sale today in a pile of other more typical drink coasters… At first, I thought it was a patch or something like that because it’s kind of fuzzy and textured, but it’s also thin with a very thin plastic backing and seems disposable so unless anyone can tell me otherwise, I’m gonna stick with the theory that it’s a drink coaster…. A very cool drink coaster! I bought them all (5) for 50 cents. Guessing 60s or 70s?

Fremont St., 1980's

Found this cool photo at an estate sale! Used Ai to date it:

This photo was taken between 1980 and 1987 (most likely circa 1980–1985).

Key Visual Clues:

  • The Sundance Hotel Sign: Visible down the street in the center background, the vertical red neon sign reads Sundance. The Sundance Hotel & Casino opened in July 1980 and was rebranded as Fitzgeralds in 1987, providing the exact date window.
  • The Mint Hotel: The bright blue neon sign on the left belongs to The Mint, which operated under that name until it was sold and merged into Binion's Horseshoe in 1988.
  • Golden Nugget Facade: The glowing yellow bulb canopy of the Golden Nugget on the right reflects its prominent 1980s remodeling prior to the street's pedestrianization for the Fremont Street Experience in 1995.
  • Vehicles: Modern 1980s boxy sedans and taxis are visible driving down the street alongside the classic red Volkswagen Karmann Ghia in the center lane.

Assuming the 90's because they spent $21, though hopefully that got them 2-3 burgers!
