Towing another car. He pulled out of a gas station in front of me. I didn’t see him towing something at first, when I did see it I had to stop and then get into the other lane. I stopped at the red light and he stopped in the left turn only lane, but then he decided to go straight through the intersection when the light was red.

Loud vibrating machine rattles walls/windows almost every night after 10pm + stomping

I’ve hardly gotten any sleep since moving into the new place a few weeks ago. I try to be in bed by 8-9pm and right when I start falling asleep, the upstairs neighbor turns on a loud vibrating device that runs in intervals and stops after about half an hour. Always happens after 10-11pm. Directly above our bedroom. When we first started hearing it it was in one corner of the room, now it seems to be in the corner closer to our bed.

The previous neighbor we had next door would scream at his video games & you could hear every. Single. Word. From 9pm-4am. Then at 5-6am he would blast music. It got worse over time after filing complaints. I’m scared to approach the new neighbor in any way because I don’t want to make enemies. I’ve thought of baking cookies and approaching it nicely, but a lot of people are mean or can feel attacked easily. I’m thinking about talking to management tomorrow but I don’t know what will come of it. My partner paid a lot for this place, it feels unfair that we’d have to just deal with it.

LISTEN TO YOUR GUT! Got hired at a restaurant/bar. Found out it’s operating illegally after being raided.

Bear with me, this is pretty long & there’s so many red flags to go over.

I got hired at a restaurant/bar on the spot after talking to who I believed was the owner. She said they needed servers & bartenders. Gave me a start date & told me I’d be training for about a week. They have a restaurant side, and the bar side. The restaurant side has its own small bar too.

First day: I expected to do a proper onboarding process with paperwork. I’ve worked many jobs, & have never experienced being hired on without giving my ID & social for the verification/background process. I was working without being verified. I was given a W4 & gave my direct deposit info. The owner told me I didn’t have to fill out the tax part where it includes tips & whatnot. She said at one point that the previous owner got in trouble several times for serving minors & that they were trying to turn the place around. The guy I was shadowing was making drinks for his sibling and her friends. When she was ordering, she ordered for all of them and whispered that the boys were underage. Don’t know if that was a joke or not, but I felt something was wrong. The owner told me before hire I needed to be food handler certified but when I asked her when she needs my certification by, she told me there’s no deadline & she’s not that worried about it.

Second day: Was thrown in on the floor since I clocked in. Was the only server for the restaurant and I was supposed to make drinks on that side & do to-go orders. There were many red flags I saw that day. One, the woman working the bar cut her finger pretty bad. She came to show me, pushed on it to purposely make it bleed more & started flicking blood everywhere. Then she wrapped it in a bandaid. Shortly after, she digs her hands ungloved into the container of cheese they use for the sandwiches, & is eating out of it like an animal. The kitchen worker left it out like that & didn’t say anything. I’m sure they still used that cheese for customers food. Later on she shows me her bandaid was bled through. Freaking disgusting & major health hazard btw.
I asked one of the workers how much they make, they said maybe like a grand. I was like “wow, per week?” They replied per MONTH. At the end of my shift my shift report wouldn’t print. & I was also not told to count the drawer that morning, so I think that’s part of that issue. I felt off the whole time I was there and had a gut feeling something was wrong.

Here’s the crazy stuff.
I did further research & found that:

This place was RAIDED by the state less than 3 years ago. There were 52 charges, 28 being felonies. Everyone working was charged and most were for distributing drugs and illegal sales of alcohol. One of the people charged for selling c*caine was actually the guy I shadowed my first day! All liquor licenses were suspended & the business had an Administrative Dissolution, meaning they’re not legally able to operate anymore. I called the Secretary of States office & this information was verified that they are not legally allowed to operate.

• It’s highly against federal law to hire employees without taking their ID & Social for identity verification & background process.
• The business is likely evading taxes, given I was told to not fill out the tax part of the form & not taking ID means they can’t legally put me on their payroll. = Evading payroll taxes
• The business was likely sold to the current owner after the previous raid, all under the table & illegally to keep it up & running. They never re-registered it with the state, so they’re breaking every law they can possibly think of.

Idk about anyone else, but I wouldn’t want to be working at a place like that while it gets raided and get screwed. Some of the people I worked with were on the article I read about the raid and it shows every single charge. I don’t want that to be me. I’m happy I dipped out before I was in too deep. If you have a bad feeling about a business, do research and listen to your gut.

Thrown on the floor by myself as the only server/bartender on my second day in “training”

Edit: the owner also hasn’t taken my ID or ss to verify me. I googled what this could mean and apparently they can’t legally pay me without verifying my identity? It says there’s a lot of red flags.

The manager originally told me I’d be in training for like a week for $10/hour. Second day and all of a sudden I’m the only server and bartender for the “restaurant” side. I do have serving experience but damn I wasn’t expecting to be put through this. What if I don’t make enough tips to cover what I was originally going to get during training? We had a small lunch rush but it’s dead now. I still have a few hours til I get off but I’m debating if I should come back or not. I asked the manager/owner about it and she said she didn’t think I needed training. When I asked after my first shift about when she thought I’d work again she said “I feel confident we can throw you right in” and gave me the following days I’d be working. When she said she’d throw me in I thought she was talking about the schedule, NOT being thrown on the floor by myself as the only server and bartender in their restaurant. I don’t even know how to make most drinks. I’m in desperate need of a job but is this worth staying in?

Any volunteering opportunities in Raleigh area, especially with animals?

I love animals, cleaning up trash, feeding people, etc. I’m looking for opportunities to volunteer in & around the Raleigh area while I’m on my job search. I want to help & be a part of the community. Constantly getting rejected on this job search has been making me feel depressed, it would make me feel better knowing I’m helping the community somehow.

Student debt, school closed & im unemployed

So I have debt from attending school for almost one full year before getting laid off. There were difficulties with one of my classes where the professor didn’t provide me with the correct key login to submit my assignments. I harassed her for almost 2 months trying to get the correct one and when she finally gave it to me I had 14 late assignments that she gave me less than 10 days to complete along with my other class assignments. I automatically got failed for that class and had to drop it.

Then I got laid off. I was making less than $500/month already so I was struggling hard between that & school. Was applying everywhere and couldn’t get hired for anything to save my life. I ended up dropping from my classes. My advisor told me to let them know when I’m ready to retry again, then the school closed altogether and it was transitioned over to another university. I called to try and get my records & was told they didn’t have them since the school I went to was no longer open.

I called my loan service advisor and asked what I could do. They advised me 2 months ago to apply for a forbearance, which I did and they had me on forbearance until earlier this month. I was then told I could fill out the School Closure Discharge application where they might possibly take off my loan altogether.

Has anyone been in this situation and how did it work out for you? I owe about $1,900 and haven’t been able to make one single payment because of the job market and my living situation. My boyfriend has been supporting me and we just moved out of state for his new job. Any advice or stories of how you went through this process would help a lot. I feel like I’m in a pickle.

Literally just got this plant 3 hours ago and my cat was caught chewing on two of the leaves 😡

How do cat owners have so many indoor plants and manage to have cats too? I shouldn’t have to go through a whole ordeal to live comfortably in my home and have things like plants indoors that make me happy. Ugh I’m so upset.
Edit: Yes I know this plant in particular is toxic to cats, however I’ve had them before and in the past 7 years my cat hasn’t showed interest in any of my plants until this. I just moved across the country and have none of my plants with me so my partner got me one for the new place.

Is there anyone that could look over my resume and let me know what I can do to improve?

I have been using Microsoft Word in my iPad to reconstruct my resume as it’s all I have. Is anyone willing to look it over and let me know what I can do to improve? Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help! :)

Edit: I am applying for an entry-level Maintenance Technican role at Manufacturing companies. I recently graduated a program learning how to use CNC mill machines, precision measuring instruments and 3D printers along with some basic soldering. I’m trying to get my foot in the door to a better field after 12 years of restaurant and retail jobs trying to move up but got me nowhere.

AIO - Mad at my friend that lost my cat.

My friend offered to take my two cats in when I was in a bind. I had nobody else to ask. Less than an hour after picking them up, she crashed her car with my cats in it & her kid. Thankfully everyone was unharmed. 3 weeks later, I planned to drive from the town I was living almost 3 hours away to visit my cats. She texted me while I was on the way there saying one of my cats got out and she couldn’t find him. She originally told me she accidentally left a window open, then confessed a couple months later she leaves her door open for her dog to go in and out and that that’s how he got out.

I originally told her not to leave doors or windows open, and to keep my cats collars on with their tags in case if something like this happens. She took their collars off so my cat that went missing doesn’t have his tags and will probably be mistaken for a stray now. He’s been missing since October. He is microchipped and I made sure everything was updated.

I drove multiple trips over the last 6 months to search for him on foot, talked to all of her neighbors, handed out flyers, went to all the shelters and vets in town in person, everything.
Every time I asked her if she talked to her neighbors yet she always told me she’s been too busy but she has plenty of time to attend birthday parties, make week long trips to other cities and such. She would constantly post on social media about all the fun things she’s doing but would leave my messages unopened for weeks to a month at a time. She would rarely even send me pictures of my other cat after many times of asking. I did go off at one point saying this whole thing could have been prevented and that I feel like she’s not even trying to find my cat. She responded with she’s been too busy and that she’s dealing with CPS from her first bd and some other stuff, but that she gave up looking for him because she figured he’s probably dead by now or something.

I’m just so livid and heartbroken. I recently had to move out of state with my partner for his new job last minute and I picked up my other cat. I’ve had them both for the past 7 years and never thought I would be experiencing this. There’s so many emotions including regret and guilt going through me.

Am I overreacting for being so upset at my friend for losing my cat and just going on with her life? She also lost her boyfriend’s cat shortly after mine but they found her after two weeks. Yet mine has been gone for 6 months and I’ve done so much to try and find him. These cats are everything to me. I feel like half of my heart has been ripped out.

Hi everyone, new here to NC. First impression has been wonderful, it’s absolutely beautiful here and so clean compared to where I’m from. I’d love to make friends here & network for trying new hobbies & find employment. I’ll be 27 in a few months, would love recommendations for your favorite bookstores, museums, coffee shops, everything you like about NC! I just moved to the outskirts of west Raleigh. Recently visited the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences & absolutely loved it. What are the best ways I could meet people to make friends & attend groups here? I couldn’t find subreddits for that, any recommendations would be awesome.

My partner got a great job offer here & I moved with him for a fresh start & a better opportunity. I recently graduated a Manufacturing/Maintenance Technician training program at a nonprofit business in Austin, Tx. I now hold my OSHA10 cert, Lean Six Sigma White Belt, CNC Basic Mill Operator Cert & learned Basic soldering. I got my TDLR for Electrician Apprentice prior to that just because.

I have 12 years of customer service experience mostly in the restaurant industry after moving up to fine dining from fast food, have 1 year of assistant store manager experience in retail (horrible pay, $10/hour. When I found out the people I was supervising were paid more than me I left back to serving). I have done many side jobs learning more skills like using hand tools & power tools, fence repair, landscaping, post-construction residential cleaning, & cleaned million dollar spec houses on the side. The past year I’ve been learning how to do repairs on my own car.

I’m looking for any job to help me get my foot in the door for a potential career. I’m tired of living paycheck to paycheck, and I still have debt I need to pay off. I currently have a $2,000 student loan from when I tried going for Animal Sciences (my true passion is with animals but I keep hearing/reading it’s horrible pay), but I’m looking to going back to school for something different that will lead to a better paying & promising career.

I’m looking forward to my fresh start here. North Carolina has been absolutely beautiful so far and the people have been very nice. Finding a job, any job that pays more than $15/hour will be a good enough start for me to work my way up. I’m willing to work at a restaurant with great tips until I find good manufacturing companies that are willing to train someone new to the industry. Any other job recommendations are welcome too. I’ve thought about applying for Bank Teller positions, Insurance Company customer service, etc. My options are pretty open as long as the pay is good & it will lead me somewhere.
