Is God Is (2026)
A layered and complex revenge thriller tackling the cycle of violence and how the patriarchy allows for men who do the most outright evil things and leave a trail of destruction; while being fully protected from the repercussions of their actions. up until someone decides to make a stand and intervene.
the performances especially between the two leads who play twin sisters are fantastic. a full black cast with a black writer/director at the helm adapting their play into this film which is lovely to see. you can tell that there was a lot of intent on making this story cinematic. as there are a lot of creative visual and editing choices throughout. the color grading and cinematography are great.
this was a really strong debut and I encourage you to see it in the theater if you can to support films like this since we sure as hell don’t get many of them. I was entertained and had a lot of food for thought that I’m still processing now long after the credits had rolled. it is not a perfect film as I have some nitpicks but it does not deter this film from being great and worth watching.

People have posted way cooler pics on here but I AM HYPED!!!
Months ago I thought this would never be in my hands. Let alone being able to see the 4k transfer in IMAX. I can’t wait to watch this again
Gullivers Travels (2010) - lend me your thoughts
I am a big fan of Jack Black and grew up with his movies but never watched this. I haven’t seen virtually anyone say they liked it but I want to know is it “fun bad”? It looks so jarring and I’m morbidly curious but I also don’t want to waste my time if it’s boring and dull as opposed to a bad movie that’s entertaining. I’m big on watching physical media and the blu ray disc is 2.99 right now on eBay lol
First filmography you watched?
I’m currently watching all the movies in Jafar Panahi’s filmography. I only have one more film to go. I loved “It Was Just An Accident” (2025) and typically his movies are shorter in length (usually around 90 mins) so it was an easy decision to go through them all and I’ve had a great time. This would be the first time I’ve watched all of a directors films.
I was curious what were people’s first filmographies they decided to tackle and watch through. Depending on the director you may have a bunch of classics or a mixed bag. For anyone else who’s gone on a similar journey what was the director?
They Came Together (2014)
This is a super funny parody or spoof of romantic comedies. Every single trope you can think of is made fun of here. A few jokes had me straight up cackling. If you’re a fan of Airplane or The Naked Gun this line of humor will be up your alley. Also if you’re a fan of romantic comedies or hate them and enjoy watching either of the two leads then you’ll have a great time. A short runtime too under 90 mins. Highly recommend
Finally some substantive lyrics that actually go in depth about the state of the world and provide ample commentary on a myriad of social issues clearly and concisely, never talking down to the listener
Closed Curtain (2013)
My review:
Following “This Is Not A Film” I was curious what this movie would be like. When it had seemed to me from the trailer that Panahi was really behind the camera again. That turned out to be partly true. All of the elements of realism you find in past works are here. You’ll find lots of long droning shots that are very quiet without a note of music. The music is the background noise. The clanking of every dish, the stomp of every footstep, the creak of each step in the house.
This will not be everyone’s cup of tea. However, as a fan of Panahi who has watched all of his previous films to this point, this movie felt very rewarding.
A twist that doesn’t fully reveal or explain itself just starts blooming towards the last act as you begin to understand as a viewer what is really being expressed here. At times it felt very haunting. At times there was unintentional ASMR by watching Panahi make three cups of tea.
There are a lot layers and thematic elements that kind of get swirled up into this artistic statement from a filmmaker who legally is told by his government he is not allowed to make a film. Obviously that bridge has been crossed already. But the change in tone here from “This is Not A Film” is really fascinating. This is a complicated baring of a depressed soul in a metaphorical, surreal docufiction that tests the mind and patience of the viewer to eventually let what they’ve been watching become apparent right under their nose. At least that’s what it felt like for me.
This guy says he is called the Canadian 2Pac…
Doing a poor impression of 2Pac that would make him roll in his grave and call yourself the Canadian 2Pac is one of the most insulting and idiotic things I’ve ever got to post here
James Cameron on his interest in directing solo “Jar Jar Binks” film (The Guardian)
Excerpt from the Guardian:
“Interviewer: Have you ever considered doing a Star Wars film with all your experience in Sci-Fi? Could that be a possibility?
Cameron: Believe it or not, I actually am a big fan of George Lucas’ prequel trilogy. I ask him questions about it all the time. One character that sticks out like a sore thumb, to me that’s a good thing, but it’s Jar Jar Binks. I think what they had planned for that character never came to fruition because audiences weren’t ready for him at the time. Any new character that was introduced especially in TPM received a lot of polarizing reactions. But the backstory I became more aware of through George is actually quite fascinating. I can’t say for sure, but I will tell you I would be very interested in developing a Jar Jar Movie.
Interviewer: Wow! I think a lot of people may be surprised by that.
Cameron: Let them be surprised! That’s the power of movies. It’s always a ‘wait and see’ until you see it. Then people can tell me how they feel about it. When the movie is actually done and playing in cinemas.”
What do you all think of this interview? Would a Jar Jar movie actually work with Cameron at the helm?
My review:
the rain feels so visceral in this movie. it's hard to explain.
that was an intense and I would imagine really groundbreaking film for the time.
everyone keeps falling in leaves
my first kurosawa film and this was a great intro. some absolutely stunning shots and
cinematography in this film. I can already start to get a grasp on his style. the performances are all really strong as well.
there were some scenes where I wasn't as engaged but they were very short lived and usually met with some whiplash because the next development in the story ends up being so unexpected. there were some moments where my jaw dropped from shock
overall I enjoyed it and recommend it, although be warned there are scenes depicting rape as you can see in the summary and the story here is grim. but if you are in the right headspace check it out
Anyone else watch this as a kid?
It’s really bad but as a kid I liked how the first movies cover on the VHS was red and this was blue.
Go figure.
I played this shit so many times on my old mini tv as a kid. The first movie was weird as shit and this is one is just goofy af. Anyone else watch this?
