Would hero vs villain theme really work for next Smash?
I know it has been talked before, but I'm not sure if anyone really has a specific explanation about how this idea implements. So I try to figure it out:
*Within a typical 50~60 slots roster, every franchise would have at least two reps (including 3rd party), half is hero and half is villain. There are approximately 25 villains in the vs roster.
*Which means if a franchise gets a second rep, it would have to be a villain over a hero over a secondary hero or a sidekick.
*While some franchises like Wii Fit don't have villains so they can go with just heroes, they'd also have high risk of being eliminated from the roster as villains from other franchsies need take their slots.
*Pokemon is kinda arguable since it doesn't always have obvious definition of villains, but the rivals could be legendaries or partners of the bosses from the game.
While we'd get a certain amount of new villain fighters, we'd also lose a certain amount of secondary heroes we've got so far. Fire Emblem is an obvious case as it only has hero fighters and would have to cut quite a lot of existed heroes. We'd also have to cut several minor Nintendo franchises and 3rd party as exchange for second villains of other franchise. (E.g. cut Kazuya for Blinky, cut ROB for Glass Joe).
It sure wouldn't please fans who'd love to target or request secondary heroes (e.g. Falco, Midna etc), I also find that some fans don't always take the loss of secondary heroes or the potential cut of minor franchises into consideration. It feels like this idea can only be valid if most fans agree exchanging secondary heroes for villains would be a good bargain. I just think secondary heroes, such as Diddy Kong, Ike and Isabelle tend to have very big follow, that fans would unlikely agree to cut them as exchange for more villains.
I also think this would bring difficulty to future new franchises for Smash, as each new fighter must be paird with their rival and enter together and take two slots at one time.
Would this idea make a more interesting roster? Or you find the tranditional way of roster casting more diverse and interesting?
Tbh NPC drivers could had been less arguable if Nintendo promote them correctly
We know they're adapted from in-game track obstacles and promote as NPCs. Honestly, it is a fine and cute idea to have colorful creatures in driver seat.
So what makes the general roster controversial is how NPCs being the only newcomers, and consider the base game price isn't cheap, or let's call it a standard price. If consumers need to pay standard price for new game, I think such game project should put some real efforts in creating new contents including the drivers. The base roster would had been very all-around if we not only get newly introduced drivers but the NPC drivers as side dish. It feels like NPC drivers were put in hate target but they didn't have to be like this.
I'd use Metal Mario and Pink Gold Peach as the examples, they're cheap clones and would not do harm if Nintendo promote them as bonus contents. But Nintendo sometimes put them as independent unlockables or purchaseables that are better for unique characters.
Super Smash bros' assist trophies could serve as a different example, where Nintendo officially acknowledge them sharing existed movesets but are allowed to participate, which wouldn't make fans think they didn't earn their fighter invites.
Lena from Goddess of the Demon World Empire (1993 movie) - Project EIH no.18
Althoug the 1993 movie wasn't favored by general Super Mario game fans, I find there are many unique and beutiful character designs from the movie, and I especially like Lena for her villainess image that we wouldn't see from main canon. Lena has many great costumes, but I went with Latex Catsuit which is easest to make and print.
Know that Nintendo probably won't bring back the settings from the unsuccessful movie, but hope that they can memorize the movies in long future.
Galaxy movie could had used more galaxies from games
Yeah I knew someone mentioned it already so it's a repetitive topic, but anyway....
So overall, if we don't count Comet Observatory as a planet, it would leave just four planets for us to visit in movie adaption. We had:
1, Gateway Galaxy + Minus World: while most of the part is original, I think it works in adpation and properly explain that space travel is a common thing and Mario series already got many aliens. Could argue 8-bits were not from Galaxy but most fans would give them a pass.
2, Honeyhive Kingdom: it is the closest to the game we had in the movie, my only critique is wish we had stay longer in the vist of the kingdom, get to interact with the bees and actually use Bee powerup.
3, Fossil Falls: didn't exist in Galaxy but just used to push Yoshi's Island + Odyssey references, which feels not fitting too much. We know Nintendo did it because they pushed Galaxy to be second movie adaption. and couldn't give more time to Yoshi's Island in its own movie, but ultimately it's their own issue. Also, the whole planet is a filler but it took way too long time. I think they should had cut off half time and insert one more planet instead.
4, Jr's planet: it's overall a cool battlefield. Main critique could be it took abit too much SMB references rather than Galaxy's own themes, as I mentioned in an earlier post.
=======
As for the unused one in games, I also say not all of them fit in storytelling or movie adaption, so they don't need to all appear. But I think some of them could had made it:
1, Loopdeeloop Galaxy: this is the other planet that had several main NPCs of the game. including Ray, Guppy and penguins. I think waterslide contest would do an interesting insertion of the plot and yet it design is still very iconic. That could also bring back King Penguin whose story from the first movie hasn't finished.
2, Boss Blitz Galaxy: I think we should face some danger in outerspace-- yes we had Wart, but we could have more, especially the actual bosses from real Galaxy games.
Tbh I think Showtime would really be Waluigi's thing
Out of all mainline themes I feel like Showtime is a subject that both suits Waluigi and potentially interests Waluigi if he knew what's going on in all games. While he doesn't have a passion for saving the kingdoms from bad guys or making microgames, acting seems to echo to his show-off personality the most.
Maybe somehow Waluigi knew the grand opening of Sparkle Theater and wanted to apply for chief actor audition, but he failed. He is super jealous of Peach who got all the attention, so he invades every single act to challenge Peach for the seat of protagonist.
If it was a thing, Waluigi could get into Super Smash bros with a theatrical motif fighter moveset, which references various theatrical characters like musketeer, bandit or vampire.
Your opinion on handheld era?
(It's same topic I put in Mario series as an example, it sure can be applied to other major franchises.
Well Nintendo Switch is the first ever hyrbid platform after handheld hardware went into history. Theoretically NS would inherit all the porjects and budgets from handhelds, but after NS1 went to an end, I think it's hard to tell NS1 did most of the handheld games' job.
For Super Mario, we had quite many different spinoffs or one-off game titles on handhelds, but so far it looks like Nintendo Switch didn't continue to do some of them when handheld went into history.
For Nintendo's other brands, some major franchises like Pokemon and Fire Emblem were mainly rooted in handhelds, but still managed to move to Nintendo Switch with their main releases, but some others like Nintendogs, Art Academy and Dillon's Rolling Western show to have difficulty to stay.
It feels like as NS being an actual home console in its core, it's difficult for Nintendo to keep all kinds of IPs with handheld concepts or try to explore more creative ideas on this platform where every game needs to have home console quality. Still, it feels like most budget are now gone to the major franchises
Meanwhile, I think the inclusion of eShop system and Indie makers are the very sufficient source to make up the decease of Nintendo's own minor projects, if you're a gamer that is interested in general gaming. But as a Nintendo fan I feels like Nintendo is kinda losing its own diversity, even tho they do come up with new major franchises like Switch Sports and Ring Fit.
Do you think Nintendo Switch successfully inherit Nintendo handheld games? Or you think it rather just focuses on home console aspect which alternatively means old-fasioned handheld is dead?
Do you miss Mario's handheld games?
Well I just realize this topic should be valid now since Nintendo Switch has concluded the first phase of hybrid console era.
There are sure some visible differences in lineup before and after. But I'd like to begin with quality vs quantity part.
In terms of just quantity, despite technically Nintendo Switch is supposed to own all the budget that was for handheld projects, it feels like we're not really getting an ibvuously bigger amount of games because of that. Most of the NS1 game release pace is still very similiar to a typical home console, if we don't count re-releases or the virtual consoles.
Still, handhelds games used to have smaller rom size to fit in the console, but they might not fit in the criteria of home console games. It feels like the main reason why Nintendo feel relunctant to push more creative ideas or keep running minor series on Nintendo Switch, like Mario vs DK, that handhelds loved to explore.
Some other common Mario games used to have both handheld and home console version, like Mario Tennis and Mario Kart. I think it makes sense for them to do just one single game for Nintendo Switch since they have no need to do seperate versions. But still, I think these games should do more contents if they already absorbed the budget from handhelds. Taking Mario Golf for example, we used to have lots of original contents from handehelds version but the later NS games don't seem to expand vastly because of stopping the handhelds.
RPGs is another concern in my eyes. We used to have excellent additional RPGs from handhelds along with Paper Mario for home consoles. But after NS era we don't seem to see more new RPGs on hybrid platform after handhelds gone, and RPG isn't like party or kart because every single story is independent so they need the same amount of games to tell same amount of stories. I just think we should have at least three new RPGs on NS1 (doesn't have to be M&L or Paper, could be an original one like DKCRPG), and just two new Mario RPGs for NS1 is kinda insufficient for NS1 lineup. I know Mario RPGs aren't Nintendo's cup of tea but still.
In your opinion, did NS1 successfully inherit the handhelds as a hybrid platform? Or you think it fell off the quality or quantity standard?

Tbh I find kinda double standard between Junior and Peach's storyline...
--- that Peach's origin becomes the whole main point of the movie story while Jr's origin is neither important nor cared by people.
Yes, I know in Nintendo's opinion they want to keep Jr's origin vague and secret, either they're not that interested or they want to keep Bowser's fatherhood valid (in case he is just a foster father that would ruin the spirit in their opinion, my guess).
In an earlier post I mentioned that Bowser not making it clear to Peach and the main cast feels very wrong, not just that Peach is gonna be forced to take a mother role, but every fiance on this world should know where their spouse's kids came from. Peach should ask about it, and Bowser could calmly explain if Jr was from adoption, or just try to hide it if it's not a bright reason. There was never a proper reason to explain why neither Peach nor Bowser took any action about it, no matter what answer it is.
And as I mentioned earlier, Mario, as Peach's admirer and Bowser's biggest hater, not questioning Jr's details is also equally strange, consider he has loads to chance to ask to Bowser and Jr during the whole story process and nothing can really bother him to ask.
While Jr hasn't cared about his origin for long time, at least he once cared in Sunshine, and it feels like he has the right to care about it just like how Peach wonders who she was before becoming Toads' princess. I think the movie unnecessarily skips Jr's question of birth but it should be done as part of his growth trajectory. It also feels very sad for no character to care about Jr as a child, even if he indeed did many awful things as a villain.
At the end of day, Jr's origin naturally relates to why and how Bowser raises Jr on his own. Movie audience can hardly find Bower and Jr's relationship precious if their backstory was never clarified.
Acutally, if Nintendo didn't mind to answer, the movie could had given a very short time to simply answer where Jr came from, everyone already know the answer and then just focus on the battle scenes. Always keeping it a secret rather ruins Jr's character comparing to all the focus on Peach'.
Who'd be your picks for thirty returning drivers for base game, if you decide?
Within the given scenario Nintendo decided to bring back thirty veteran drivers for World base game, do you agree all the thirty picks? If not, which thirty veteran drivers make better sense as World base roster in your opinion?
Options count non-Mario guest drivers from all past MK titles, as well as Diddy Kong Racing drivers.

Broque Monsieur from Bowser's Inside Story - Project EIH no.17
Broque Monsieur is one of the memorable supporting characters from M&L series, and even appeared as a DS stylus along with his pets. Tbh M%L series has a very interesting take on Mario world and its NPCs really fit well with Mario world art style. He's another showcase Nintendo shouldn't overlook the RPG contents.

So.... is this intro canonically correct?
Or official guidebooks actually allowed headcanon?
It feels like nothing written here is really utilized in actual dialogue or stories.
Fast as lightning (eclair), dark as shadow
I wonder why blue and black are paired.
Feels like a waste of opportunity to feature known Mario aliens
Well, let's say you can insert Wart and Fox outside Galaxy game, there is no way you cannot insert some Mario characters that relate closer to the outerspace background. Feels more like another case of Nintendo's lack of acknowledgement for spinoff source and SML.
It'd be really considerate to insert Tatanga and Orbulon as part of random alien travellers who Peach met in the airport.
