Anyone who has written (or understands) writing for middle grades, what common mistakes can I avoid in writing?

I haven’t written a draft yet, but I’ve pretty much fully fleshed out all of my thoughts of what I want my next story to be and I’m itching to get it out. It’ll be a portal fantasy and I believe middle grades will be the appropriate audience. What brief pieces of advice can you give a slightly-above-novice writer?

The other elements seem to be more straightforward (air, water, fire, sometimes metal or wood). But Earth feels more ambiguous to me — is it strictly dirt, stone, sediments, or anything else that’s inert? In some pieces of media, the Element of Earth seems to include plant life (like when someone possesses the power of Earth, they can create and control vines)… which to me seems more like a byproduct of Earth rather than Earth itself. What do the OGs say?

Is this a better layout than before? (First 3 photos are new, last 3 are old).

To those suggesting on my last post to move the TV against the gallery wall, that would’ve faced toward the front door (not at all comfortable for viewing from the couch if I placed that back under the window). And there’s zero chance I’m mounting the tv above the fireplace 🫣.

Putting anything directly in front of the fireplace feels like horrible feng shui, but if I ignore that it’s behind me when sitting on the couch, it feels the most natural for watching tv. The last picture is the original layout of of the living room, but then watching tv was only comfortable from the green chair — you’d have to be angled strange on the couch to get a halfway decent viewing experience.
Is there any other option you’re seeing? Or anything to make either of the arrangements more comfortable?
