I just got a notification that The Book with No Pictures is available after a 2 week wait. I accepted the loan, tapped "Read with Kindle" as I always do. It took me to Amazon. Every time I press the yellow "Get Library Book" button, I get one of these error splash pages (the dog breed varies, if you ever wondered...).
Anyone have ideas for how to resolve this? Or why it's happening?
I'll start...
Harry Potter x3
Fourth Wing x2 (if you count listening to the Graphic Audio, then x5)
Hunger Games x3 (the trilogy...BOSAS & SOTR only 1x)
Written by "author and GPT-4"... I've already been burned several times by Freebooksy leading me to AI written publications that aren't openly labeled as such.
What sort of disclosures are required for AI written/AI assisted works? Because I'm certain that the one I've shown here is in the minority. I heard something about AI content must be disclosed to Amazon before listing, but is there anything consumer facing to help us avoid it?
So I'm working on the biggest blanket I've attempted yet it's 171 stitches wide, made of repeating 6 rows of six Suzette stitches (SC, DC, skip) and 3 rows of DC (though I got ahead of myself at the first color change and only did two rows of DC...so I've resolved to just match that on the other side to make it look intentional).
I've got a bitty baby, so I've been listening to audiobooks and working on this for about an hour or so for some "me time" once she's down for the night.
Last night, as I was folding it up, I noticed that the working area of cream is much thicker on one side than the other. I'm supposed to be on the 5th row of Suzette stitches right now...but clearly I have made a grave error and somehow switched direction at some point.
Can you see where I did this? I mean, obviously where the bump is. But how many rows ago?
I'm not great at identifying where rows start/stop on anything but DC really. 🫣
I just looked around and realized that it finally happened. I've got a WIP infection. 🤒 Currently in progress:
A doll-sized version of the baby blanket I made for my daughter
A lapghan that I'm probably going to frog because I hate the yarn but didn't know what else to do with it
An amigurumi bunny head to put onto the star lovey that I made at least a month ago (it's been stuck at "pink bowl made of cotton" stage because I hate the process of amigurumi due to my obnoxious tight tension issues)
A large blanket that I'm making with yarn my dad found and bought for me at Goodwill
A load of worry worms
I think my tipping point was giving birth, because before that, I'd finish one project before starting another.
How about you? When did your WIP bug hit and why?
My daughter is nearly 4 months old. My bathtub is a deep 2-person jacuzzi. Her infant bathtub fits inside with plenty of room for me, so she gets her water, I get mine, and once we're both clean I'll fill the tub with enough fresh water to let her float, assisted, while I support her shoulders and keep her head above water.
My son didn't learn to swim until he was 8-9 years old, once my parents installed a pool at their house. While we still have access to it, I'd love to give my girl a head start in comfort and water safety.
What exercises and techniques can I accomplish in this tub setup?
Obviously not full of bubbles with the jets on. This is just the only image I have of it right now!

I decided to try this super-comfy position so many have recommended here. At first? "YES! This is comfortable! Oh man, I'm gonna sleep sooooo good now!"
I woke up maybe half an hour later, unclamped my forearm from my thighs, and my elbow was SCREAMING in pain.
I have an old overuse injury (colloquially, "tennis elbow") from attempting to do 208 - or however many sun salutations you're supposed to do - one New Year's Day maybe 5 years ago when I was really into yoga.
Constantly carrying my 4 month old has brought back a little of the burning pain, but sleeping like that woke it straight the hell up.
Back to the drawing board, I guess.
People have always been captivated by my eyes - especially when I used to wear black eyeliner top & bottom when I was younger. I'd get compliments from customers at work or strangers in the street.
I recently learned of central heterochromia. Is that what's going on here? I can see a distinction near the pupil, but it's not warm and sunflower-y.
Surely something must be special for them to get extra attention. Driver's License has always said "green."
Thanks for any help!!
I'd imagine I'll probably have to get in there with a pumice stone, but this is never happened before and I'm wondering if anyone knows if it might be an indication of something wrong? 🤔
My dad picked up the stash from the thrift store and brought it over to me yesterday. Two skeins of Caron One Pound (close in color, but not perfect) and varying greens in Red Heart Super Saver.
I'm open to all suggestions: rows, in the round, squares! I consider myself a confident beginner / early intermediate crocheter.
Also attached some of my projects that I've done as examples of what I'm comfortable with. Not a huge fan of amigurumi. I love the finished product of my balloon dog there (even with his unique color pattern after running out of orange) but did not enjoy the process of all the increases and decreases to bring him to life.
Thanks in advance!
I don't know how else to describe this. And I feel like I don't fit in anywhere with this situation. 😕 Our son was born in 2010. We always wanted a second, but the timing never felt right, and the GAP kept getting bigger and bigger...until our daughter was born a few months ago. So there's a freaking 15 YEAR age gap between our kids.
I was an only child and had always wanted a sibling. Our son was extremely active and social, so I often wished he had a sibling to play with. Luckily when he was a child, we lived in a quiet neighborhood with a dead end street and plenty of kids to ride bikes and play with.
Now we live a few miles out of town on a busy road that I wouldn't feel safe riding my bike on as an adult. Lots of yard and woods in the back. There are a few kids nearby now, but we don't know our neighbors.
I feel like it's going to be like raising an only child again, because they're obviously not peers, and he'll probably be out of the house before she even goes to kindergarten.
I don't know where I belong in the Mom community. Technically we aren't OAD. But the dynamics aren't at all the same as having two kids a couple - or even several - years apart. We're like.. OA.. OA (one and one again??)
I dunno. I guess I'm asking if I can hang out here or if I should go kick rocks.
Was what he did okay? Absolutely not. That's not my point at all. I just don't see how this description would be allowed and I'm irritated that it's the only thing listed about him. No mention of his parents or his siblings or any other part of his life. It seems wrong.
She sends viral baby tips instead of asking about the baby.
She hasn't come to see my daughter since May, hasn't asked a single genuine question about how she's developing, and doesn't know her routine at all.
Instead, she seems me out-of-touch Facebook reels about babies (that she certainly thinks are helpful), but most of which don't even apply to my baby or our situation.
For example, this morning she sent a video with the caption, "Accidentally slept 6 hours straight last night. Now they’re acting all crazy like I’m going to do it again." ...celebrating a baby sleeping 6 hours like it’s a miracle. Meanwhile, my baby has been sleeping 10-11 hours straight every single night for probably 2 months. She has no clue because she doesn't care to ask.
She lives less than 10 minutes away and has held her 3 times since she was born in April. The last time was May 4th. She was here to visit on May 24th, but had to rush out the door after 5 minutes because hey new husband (a rant for another day) called to say he cut his finger with a power saw.
My dad is here once a week or so, even if it's brief (they live a few doors down from one another) and this weekend she sent him with a bag of things to give us, which included a onesie that reads, *"I'm not SPOILED, my Grandma just* ***loves*** *me!"*
It pissed me off so much...and I put it straight into my donation bag with the things she's outgrown already. Like hell I'm going to put that on my daughter, who is going on 4 months old and her grandma who "spoils" her hasn't held her since she was 3 1/2 weeks!
She tried to visit on June 18th, by texting me, "coming up soon, waiting on Daddy!" and 2 minutes later, "on our way" - meanwhile I was frantically texting her back that it wasn't a good time, could we plan something, even later that evening? Or Saturday? She got out of the car, said that that night she had guests coming in and she had an event on Saturday. "We'll choose another time," she said. Then silence for a week until she sent more baby reels.
Practically the same scenario happened 2 weeks ago, except her response to my wanting to plan a little was, "is it okay to come see you guys at 1:30 PM on Friday?" - when I again suggested in the evening or on Sunday, same thing: guests checking in Friday, going to symphony fundraiser Sunday. "We will have to figure out another time," she says. I replied, "Okay, no problem. Let us know when you want to try for another time." She's texted me since about diarrhea lettuce, wildfire smoke, and of course, baby tips, but no scheduling a visit.
She can find time to be a church elder and an innkeeper and a historical society board member and a borough councilwoman and fly 3 states away to visit her new husband's family...but here I am right up the hill and I get the leftover, minimal effort scraps.

Going to do my best to put blinders on in here and avoid spoilers because this seems like the best place to ask...
In my Fourth Wing hangover, I gave ACOTAR a try, and I was having a hard time getting into the whole fae thing (romance/romantasy isn't my top genre pick). I tried the print version. I tried the Graphic Audio. But I kept stalling a couple chapters in.
I picked up Throne of Glass in the wake of that, loved the first book, and spent the following 3 months dragging through the other 7 books. I finished KOA out of principal, so I wouldn't feel so bad about wasting my summer 2025 on the rest of the series.
ACOTAR still haunts me everywhere I look, though, and the FOMO is eating at me.
Does it get better? Or does it sound like it's just not my flavor?
Red Rising has been recommended to me so many times, but I've been waiting on both of my cards since May, and they're both still saying another 6 weeks at least...
I'm getting worried that I'll overhype the series and end up disappointed!
*Edited to add: I know that 6 weeks isn't a long wait! I placed these holds back in May, so I've already been waiting 9 weeks. I just now decided to ask.
I'm still sore about not having a first edition of the first book - and not being able to afford one now secondhand. I have the first editions of Iron Flame and Onyx Storm, and really I wasn't sure if I was going to get this little novella, but seeing that it will only be the first run that gets the full color illustrations, I bit the bullet and preordered my copy!
Carter's on the left, Baby GAP on the right. Guess you choose depending on whether your baby grows longways or sideways?
