Hair type- 2b-2c- Is my hair wavy or curly?

Hey! I think I have 2B–2C wavy/curly hair, but I’m really struggling to get consistent definition.

For context, I’m 18F (indian) with thick, long hair. I always knew I had some texture, but it usually just looked like “blow-dried hair” (not super frizzy or dry), so I never followed CGM. I’m starting college soon and want to actually embrace my natural waves/curls.

Right now my routine is kind of all over the place:

Shampoo: Dove Intense Repair

Conditioner: L’Oréal Hyaluron Moisture conditioner

Styling: homemade flaxseed gel → scrunch → remove excess with a cotton t-shirt → air dry (sometimes use a blow dryer for ~5 mins on high)

So yeah… not really a proper routine 😭

Main issues:

  1. Frizz, especially at the top

  2. Little to no definition near the roots

  3. Curls fall apart / look uneven

  4. Hair looks fluffy instead of defined

  5. Not many well-formed clumps or defined strands

I’ve watched a LOT of videos, but it’s honestly overwhelming and expensive to experiment with products, so I’m trying to be more intentional.

Questions:

  1. What’s a simple routine that actually works for my hair type?

  2. Any affordable product recommendations (curl creams, gels, etc.)?

  3. How do I get better definition without weighing my hair down?

  4. Does my hair actually sound like 2B–2C?

Also, I keep hearing that wavy hair needs bigger clumps than curly hair when styling (finger/brush coiling), but I don’t understand why — can someone explain?

Would really appreciate any advice!
