Considering all of the different afi sounds and side projects, whats your dream combination of sounds that can blend thigs from all eras?

Mine would be blaqk audio style instrumentals with SBTBS type goth vocals mixed with XTRMST style screaming. i dont think this will ever happen but I think it would sound amazing.

How do you remember stomp clap hey music?

People these days associate it with millennial hipster music, but that was not my pov at all. I remember hipsters only listening to underground music or older music, velvet underground, joy division, radiohead, etc or if their tastes were more modern it would be stuff that wasnt on the radio, small Brooklyn record lable type stuff.

stomp clap was what gen x listened to on mainstream radio, weather they loved it or just accepted it and let the radio play whatever. I guess it was also enjoyed by young kids who only listened to radio music. My gen Z sister and my gen x mom listened to that stuff when it was big, but I've never met even 1 milenial who didn't hate it.

What's your take?

I find it really weird to be out here defending hipsters for the sake of accuracy since I dont even like that true hipster stuff.

Where to go from a mid sized collection? Is down sizing a dumb idea?

I definitely need to downsize but feel weird about it. Im moving across the country by car, def keeping all my binders of cds, dvds & videogames, mainly looking to get rid of cassettes and vhs.

There's a lot of stuff that I could part with and would just keep my favorite stuff-- but that feels a little weird. Like if I only had like 20 movies and 20 albums but still had to have all the gear needed to play them, doesn't totally feel worth it, especially considering that id be watching/listening to the same stuff over and over. I like to have pleanty of options so I have a lot of random stuff that I like but could def part with.

Not really sure where to go from here, there's a few things that I know i dont want but just getting rid of those won't really make my collection smaller, im considering actually selling like 99% of everything and just keeping a few special or rare tapes. What do you think?

What are youre laziest vegan recipes that are still nutritious?

My #1 is probably just buying a can of vegan chili and a bag of microwave rice and having it with spinach and avocado on a wrap. Takes just a few minutes to prepare, no stove required. Looking for more like this if you got any little to no cooking recipes.

Can you guys help me find a lost artist similar to OC pls?

Back in 2006 my gf got this random CD at HotTopic cause it was really cheap on clearance and looked interesting. I ripped the CD at my house before she took it home.

Sounded very similar to owl city and hellogoodbye, (I don't think i had even heard of owl city yet at the time.)

It was a solo artist, just 1 guy, it was all synths and drum machines and auto tuned vocals. It was really silly, tongue in cheek lyrics. Not sad at all.

His most popular song was "I'm soft and I'm cuddly, like a Pa-Pa-Pa-Pa-Panda bear"

He was active on myspace, I remember photos of him wearing glasses and holding synths with edits of cartoon animals around him. We got the CD in NY but i dont think he was from here. Obviously I cant remember the artist name and searching those lyrics pulls up nothing. Hoping any other old head fans here remember this.. ive been searching for years and years.

Does anyone know if there is a master list of all albums that have been sold at HT ?

I got a CD there like 20 years ago by some underground solo artist I forgot the name of and have no way of finding through searching lyrics. Hoping this will end my long search if such a record exists

Help! Ambient0 making a non stop harsh pop sound only when using headphones out

I have no idea what this could be but it absolutely ruined my live set the other night and now I cant home record either. Sounds like when you rip a cable out at full volume but it just keeps repeating FOREVER, almost like a 4x4 beat.

Its not a bad cable like I thought cause it does it with every cable. It not dying batteries, its not anything with the delay or a sequence or any on board sounds .. it just does it as soon as the headphones jack is being used, doesn't do it through the built in speakers. Wtf is this nonsense? Any tips greatly appreciated

What iconic bands did you see back in the day? And which did you never get to see?

My standouts are:

●seeing Thursday at warped 2007 when Geoff did the full set with a bloody face from a mic swing mishap

●seeing glassjaw at a small club in the middle of the afternoon in 2005

●seeing isetmyfriendsonfire in 2008 in a really small bar when it was just matt & Nabil with a guitar & laptop

●seeing the number 12 looks like you open for chiodos in 2005

●seeing Bayside perform as an acoustic duo in tower records.

●seeing paramore at a small club when Hayley was 17

(Theres pleanty of other ones but no interesting stories about the shows/ mostly sets i caught at warped from hella far away)

My regrets are:

●Never seeing the used

●never seeing afi

●never seeing from first to last

●never seeing saosin with Anthony green.

●not watching yesterday's rising or hopesfall when they played a warped i was at.

What's your favorite LP song that doesn't get talked about much ?

If you asked me 25 years ago I would have 100% said A Place for my Head, cause at the time it was my #1 and I didn't know anyone who cared about that specific song and it wasnt a single, but now its widely recognized as a fan favorite so thats off the table.

My answer now is Forgotten. I love it so much and probably cant even explain why. I love how it ebs and flows, I love Mike's lyrics, I love Chesters grungey vocals and the breakdown is iconic. I always liked it but in the past couple years its become my number 1.

I never see anyone praise it, I often see it ranked near last place when people rank HT tracks.

My bonus answer is the song Soundtrack, the meteora instrumental demo, so beautiful and sounds like an early 2000s post hardcore track like something underoath or saosin would make in 2003.

Anyway, whats your favorite disrespected or rarely acknowledged LP song??

Anyone else mostly listen to music thats nothing like the music you make ?

I make idm, experimental ambient instrumental dance music but pretty much only listen to heavy guitar bands with screaming. Can anyone relate? it probably comes down to the fact that i cant make band music on my own and im much better with hardware than string instruments, but I think there's something cool and pure about it cause I don't really have influences for the stuff I make, if I could play guitar and write songs like the ones I listen to id probably just make copycat music of my favorite bands but the stuff I make I have no map for, it just comes out.

How do you feel about chris james?

I like his videos just fine, not a super fan but I watch.

I noticed he has a large amount of videos on topics our boy KC has done:

●The man show

●parental control

● Canadian reality shows

●my husbands not gay

●room raiders

●undercover boss

●manswers

●baggage

●criss angel

● Brent Rivera

● Owen Cook

I know some of those are coincidence but seems like a lot and feel like there must be some KC influence. Maybe im wrong, I don't judge CJ either way. He most talks about old TV shows so there's bound to be some crossover. Some of the selections seem very niche though.

Possibly hot take?

I personally think that adrenaline and white pony are both better than around the fur.

they both are masterpieces of their respective unique flavors. ATF feels like something inbetween, riding the fence, not fully in either camp, inconsistent vibes, a transitional period. It has some incredible songs but def doesn't hold my attention as much as a full album listen. Anyone agree ? I know a lot of people won't.

Was 'trends recycling every 20 years' really always true ? Or was it not as rigid as that in the past?

I was born in 1990 so I don't have a tone of decades I've personally observed, but I have been paying close attention for more than 20 years. Mostly paying attention to alt bands & fashion & some mainstream fashion.

Everyone says "things come back every 20 years"

And mostly i agree but feel like that's been more true in recent years than the past.

By that meter...

2000=1980

2005=1985

2010=1990

2015=1995

2020=2000

I think i mainly only agree for 2015-2020.

2000 felt nothing like 1980, a lot of bands and trendy kids were dressing 70s inspired then, and kept that look until around 2006. Think converse, flare pants, little shirts, big belt buckles, floppy mid length hair, sweaters, ringer tees, bakers caps, sideburns etc.

80s inspired looks came in 2007 and stayed til about 2011. Think adult swim, movies like napoleon dynamite, eagle vs shark, bands like Horse the Band, companies like American apparel.

I could go on and on. Feel like early 2010s having a lot of 90s inspo all the way to 2020s lining up with the 2000s seems accurate

Incredibly Nu-coded post hardcore songs

This band is always sighted as pioneers of post hardcore but feels very nu metal to me. Obv its not pure Nu but its got a lot of the same ingredients. A few tweaks and they could be there. https://youtu.be/NkAe30aEG5c?si=E_0UyDF79IVVevm9

The 2 genres are each very diverse and sometimes overlap but sometimes are notning alike.

Interested to hear of others. Deftones rides the line sometimes, nervepitch as well. Curious to hear of others

Shouldn't this work for connecting PS3 to an rca TV ?

No signal at all, nothing on any input channel. not sure what the problem is, all the stuff works just not when used together. Is there a better way?
