How do you deal with colonial or potentially offensive place names in Canada?
eurac.eduAußeneinheit innen am Fensterbrett?
Hallo zusammen,
Also keine Halterungen, nix.

eurac.eduFrom “Expat Paradise” to Urban Frictions: Lisbon and the Infrastructures of Privileged Migration
At Lisbon’s first Global Expat Summit in early May, mobility was celebrated as a symbol of freedom, innovation and lifestyle. Yet, outside the conference venue, many residents are facing rising rents, displacement and deepening urban inequality. This contrast reveals how privileged migration is reshaping cities and why we need more reflexive debates about who gets to move freely and at whose expense.
In South Tyrol, career success is not only about education: family background still matters
Case study: people in South Tyrol believe that “meritocratic” factors such as hard work and education matter more than family background or social connections in shaping success. However, a closer look at the data reveals that a person’s social origin remains a key determinant of their socioeconomic outcomes.
On Autopilot: The Hidden Precision of How Our Bodies Feel Temperature
We often think of thermal comfort as a vague, subjective feeling. This neuroscientist dug deeper and sent people into climate chambers, revealing that our bodies are living thermometers, capable of detecting tiny shifts in room temperature that are beneath our conscious awareness.
Greenland’s autonomy: "Nothing about us without us"
In 2019, the US President Donald Trump expressed interest in the US acquiring Greenland (Kalaallit Nunaat). The island is a self-governing territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen dismissed the idea of a sale as "absurd", leading Trump to cancel a planned state visit to the country. Ever since, Greenland has increasingly become the focus of public attention, though not in the way its people would have wanted.
Neither citizens nor foreigners: the non-citizenship puzzle of Latvia
Latvia restored its independence after the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991 and since then, the Baltic state created a unique legal category called “non-citizen”. Exposed to several decades of Russification policy during the period of Soviet occupation, which strategically re-settled Russian speakers from all over the Soviet Union, the Latvian state created this status to regulate citizenship among "former citizens of the USSR".
