For those who don't know, John Kiriakou is a former CIA officer who operated at the height of the GWOT. He helped take down some high value bad guys, then blew the whistle on waterboarding, and did time for it.

Does anyone remember the food/coffee outlet down next to Buoy Cafe? For a while it was a coffee place, and then it was a açai place. It was run by a Brazilian guy, kind of a Rico Suave.

Anyway, it closed suddenly I would say more than a year ago. So yesterday I’m walking past the old fire station and I see that he’s setting up in there. Yup, another açai shop.

Now I guess you could argue açai is like breakfast ice cream; the two markets are not the same, but opening a sugar dispensary in the same building as reigning heavyweight Duck Island seems unusually bold.

Or am I wrong? The place at the top of Richmond Road seems to do pretty well, and another ‘authentic Brazilian’ açai place literally opened a couple of days ago at 63 P Rd.

I really hope all of these operators make bank, but I can’t help feeling they’re entering a kind of icy treat squid games, where very few will survive.

'Crushing defeat' is a bit unfair when the US could glass bowl Iran tomorrow, but it's still purty funny.

Not the worst thing I’ve pushed into my face hole. Slight confusion with the packaging suggesting it should be hot, but the guy said it’s just because they use the potato and gravy tub.

Please note this is a pisspost. I'm not literally wondering why Ford F-350 double fuck driving Texans who own more firearms than books aren't literal Marxists, but there does seem to be more than a little crossover between the two. And besides, the illustrations are funny.

Just saw this on FB. I understand many people don't want to click on FB links, so the short version is that due to obliterating Gaza's water treatment infrastructure, almost all of Israel's desalination plants are now choking on what is very likely toxic algae bloom caused by said bombing.

So really the headline should read 'Gaza is paying the price of destruction, Israel is 'collateral damage'.

Of course what I hate most about this news is that it's yet another reminder of the horrific cost of this war on an entire population. Israel's problems are non-trivial, but nothing in comparison to what it must be like to live among two million people without a functioning sewerage system.

To be clear, I don't want anyone to suffer, Palestinian or Israeli. No one should be forced to drink polluted water. But what this article also suggests to me is that Israel is fundamentally unsustainable.

They can't truck in water for 10 million people. And even if they could, they'd need more land borders with friendly countries with which to do it. Israel has so alienated all of its neighbours, the only ones it can do business with do so only because they are American puppets.

If you actually asked the people of Egypt and Jordan what they think, I feel pretty sure they would not align with those country's foreign policies towards Israel.

Okay I'm kinda waffling now. I guess where I'm going is that, big picture, the future for Israel as an apartheid state is not good. They may have overwhelming military might, but even the toughest soldiers and West Bank settlers need water.

I posted about this KFC pop-up a week or so ago. My expectations were pretty low, but this is kinda cool from a marketing perspective. I feel like Yum brands has a new ad agency on the roster.
