If you want this to be a job it can be

But if you wanted to be a job you have to treat it like a job. You do not show up to the street as your stage if you don't have something Stage ready to play. You do not show up with a drink or water or a cigarette or a vape if you're performing. You show up with a sign and a tip jar that is clearly showing what you're doing. You are dressed like a performer, whatever that means to you. And that doesn't mean you have to wear expensive clothes, but there's something in your demeanor that shows that you're not just chilling on the street you know.

You respect the other performances around you. You do not hog stage time. You respect the police officers in the street around you and do not skip over the rules they have made for you. You do not use curse words and your performances are kid-friendly, and if they are not there is a sign that says so.

I personally limit performances to 2 hours max. I find I do not get more tips after this time anyway. Helps me keep myself in check in terms of time and makes it feel like a concerted effort at making money instead of losing time on the street.

Hope this helps! Happy playing

Petal, self image, and the consequences of 'method pop'

And I mean this to be the least moralistic if anything I am fascinated at how I could not stop hearing her lyrics (omfg the lyrics appearing on screen were sublime)

I've been meaning to have this convo someplace and maybe this is a place to have it. About how the pop narrative has skewed our dating lives and how we have things as diverse as OR3 having chewing gum and wanting to hold hands and like I do 😘 on the same radio airwave space.

Did I get hit on by the waitress?

I'm going to say a Chinese restaurant there's not that many but there's enough that it becomes generic.

Husband and I are out having dinner. The waitress complimented my outfit a couple of times, but then when she gave us the check, she gives me two fortune cookies and gives my husband one. And says she thinks I'm pretty again.

I mean we just laughed it off and nobody got angry or anything :-) but? I thought this was a fairly open lgbtq community? I'm not in my twenties either and she didn't look very young either. Should I try matchmaking her with one of my lesbian friends or? Did I get proposed to a threesome and completely blanked out? What on Earth is going on reddit? This really seemed to be the place to ask.

$80, stalactites, tarot queens, and the best busking hour in a minute

I must've not really played over an hour because there were breaks in between. Somewhere only we know did surprisingly well! On violin, unamped, with small amp for the backing track. September was a huge hit too. Damn black velvet is a hard key to play in!

(ETA: I roll between acoustic guitar and voice and violin with backing tracks. starting up a schedule of two days a week each

Bruised

I have such a clear visual for the video of this. Girl starts with a baby blue baby doll, in ponytails with black hair, bleeding. to become a blonde bombshell purple bodysuit OF model as she sings the last three lines.

Hypothetical

Tear it apart as I go.

I believe our craft is inherently feminine. I believe that men came in with a different idea of what the world was than we did. And throughout the generations, women have been trying to survive against a patriarchal narrative that does not believe in the way women use resources. Patriarchy and capitalism destroy. Whatever this is, witchcraft divination tarot astrology Stars whatever, Is our intention through history to counter that.

Under our craft we believe the answers should not be given, but found. Patriarchy is cruder, they're not asking for you to think they're just asking for you to do. So the answers are easily available and often, wrong, but since it's more accessible people just take it instead of asking follow-ups.

In the story of Adam and Eve in the bible, they tell us very clearly where the women stand. Our craft is thousands of years of trying to tell the men that they have it wrong. knowledge is not a sin.

Looking for an academic reference

When I look for research about college towns being the evolution of company towns, I get that there is academic research on the topic but I have not found the right academic to read.

Anyone currently studying this in their field that can point me in the right direction? I don't know if this is politics or economics or history and I'm not sure who writes about it.

Nowhere special

It's been there for 5 years but I had never noticed. Next to gorgers. Impeccable liquor selection, fantastic ambience and artwork on the walls. Comfortable seating, nice vibes. Highly recommend.

Beautiful garbage

I put it on today and I am re-listening and I am still shocked that it didn't make a bigger dent in history? Cherry lips is sublime.

My satirical character became the most popular character in my play

And it was meant to be politically charged so. I made a Phyllis schafly like character, hoping to get people disgusted by it and rallying into the resistance. Instead, people loved my character related with her and seem to be rallying with her political ideals instead of the ones of the four other characters which I thought was pretty ironic.

I'm covering a conference about boal and theater of the oppressed in the context of the theory when I'm talking about this play. So I'm not having a great time :-) help?

(I recently listen to a deep dive podcast on Ronald Reagan and if I had heard that before I may have been a little bit more careful in creating my character. sigh

Pink cheetah print Stanley cup

I bartended for an event the night prior and there were a bunch of water bottles backstage that had been there for weeks and the sound guy begged me to take one. There was a 40 oz pink cheetah print Tumblr that looked like a Stanley cup but I'm 100% sure it's a rip off and I don't care. I took the thing with me.

Fast forward to the following day and I forgot my tip jar on the kitchen table because I had taken it out to cash it as we bought a dishwasher on Marketplace this weekend. When I realized I don't have the tip jar I take the Tumblr with me on my hand instead and open it, sans lid, as a tip jar.

Yo. I cannot understate how good this was. It has a handle so it's a lot easier to transport than the jar or the bucket and it looks super casual and gives this impression of affluence? A twenty within first two minutes. And then about half an hour in the coolest thing happened and this had never happened before. This guy must be in his 20s? Sitting on the tables across from where I was playing got his friends to listen. Took out a giant bag of popcorn and was eating the popcorn with his friends watching me play for a good half hour.

Yesterday was a good day.

Cortical thickening

You know I studied neurobiology in college and I'm realizing I've never quite understood what this is.

I understand there is gray matter and white matter in the brain. So I asked Google if gray matter is neurons and then what is white matter. So white matter is like myelin and fat? Axons? So the gray matter is the neuron heads/bodies so to say, and the white matter are the cables together? So cortical thickening could be thought of as a mangle of cables that got stuck on their way to their destination?

Does long-term potentiation affect the amount of white matter in the brain and if so how? Or would that result in an abundance of gray matter instead? I just don't understand how they interact and I feel very stupid for asking but I just don't get it. and then I don't understand if dendrites are white matter or gray matter

They said it wasn't cancer but that's all they said

Repeat MRI in a year. That it's some scarring from childhood. But my MRI was clean as of 2011.

There was no infarct, but a decent amount of substance use trying to trat a condition then dropped (working dx was schizophrenia, now dx in remission).

I am NOT looking for med treatment. I'm just trying to figure out what this is. Currently no symptoms from it. I had some blackouts that caused the imaging to be ordered.

Can an injury cause this amount of activity in MRI? Like, the sides look opposite. If it isn't cancer what could cause this activity contrast?
