A woman is set on fire during the student protests in France

If you haven't been paying attention high school students in France have been protesting supposedly because they want better schools and better teachers. But really it's just been an excuse to riot by certain youth. And they've been setting shit on fire and attacking teachers

https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/attackers-douse-teacher-petrol-student-protests-rage-across-france-2026-10-01/

PARIS, Oct 1 (Reuters) - Attackers doused a headteacher in petrol and started fires in at least two schools on Thursday, officials said, as increasingly violent student protests raged ‌across France against staff shortages and dilapidated buildings.

Hundreds of young people surrounded a fire truck that had arrived to put out a blaze at Marseille's Saint-Exupery high school in the morning, police said. The attackers forced the firefighters to flee the vehicle, then set it alight.

21 September 2001 17 year old Ross Parker is killed by a gang of Pakistani men who said they were "looking for a white boy to kill" in retaliation for anger over 9/11

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Ross_Parker

Parker was murdered shortly after 1:15 a.m. on Friday 21 September 2001 while walking with his girlfriend, Nicola Toms. The attack took place on a cycle path alongside Bourges Boulevard in Millfield, Peterborough, near to Russell Street. Racial tensions in the area were high as the 11 September attacks in New York City had occurred only ten days earlier.

Having finished work early, Parker and Toms were walking to visit her friend's house when they were confronted by a gang of around ten British Pakistani youths, some of whom were wearing balaclavas;the 2002 trial judge concluded that they had planned to find "a white male to attack simply because he was white" in the context of "hostility on the part of some of the younger white residents of the city against the Asian community". They warned Parker he had "better start running", but then blocked his path and quickly sprayed him in the face with CS gas. He was punched in the stomach then stabbed three times from behind through the throat and chest with a foot-long hunting knife. The knife penetrated completely through his body on two occasions and as he was lying on the ground he was repeatedly kicked and struck with a panel beater's hammer.

Residents of the tiny village of Piddington have voted for independence from Britain. More than 90% of voters in the town of roughly 300 residents symbolically voted to leave the country

Residents of a tiny village have voted overwhelmingly to declare independence from Britain in a symbolic referendum to protest against plans to house 1,200 asylum seekers at a former military base nearby.

Piddington's parish council announced the result this morning after the sleepy Oxfordshire settlement went to the polls yesterday to decide whether it should secede from the UK.

With 312 votes there was a 92 per cent turnout, with 285 villagers backed independence with only 26 voting against it and one spoiled ballot paper.

The vote has no legal force and will not take Piddington out of the UK, but campaigners hope the gesture will send a message to Westminster over the proposed asylum accommodation at the former Ministry of Defence site at Bicester.

A woman in Germany invents anti-rape shorts after she escaped an attack by three men

https://www.reuters.com/article/world/in-wake-of-metoo-anti-rape-shorts-aim-to-ease-assault-fears-idUSKCN1G7217/

LONDON (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - It was noon when marathon runner Sandra Seilz was assaulted by three men as she finished her training at a park in Germany.

Pinned down, she managed to escape when a passerby came to her aid as the drunk men tried to pull down her running shorts.

The assault prompted Seilz to create a line of 'anti-rape' shorts that use cut and tear-resistant fabric and cords. The clothing is impossible for attackers to pull down, she said.

The shorts went on sale in 2017 - a pivotal year for women's rights after allegations of sexual misconduct against Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein sparked the #MeToo campaign, with women taking to social media to share their experiences of abuse.

Seilz said her tights minimize the risk of assault in a country where she believes fears are heightened since a series of sex attacks on women in Cologne on New Year's Eve in 2015.

PISA scores (reading, mathematics, and science scores) falling across the globe

https://www.dw.com/en/pisa-2026-results-reading-math-scores/a-79147293

The results of the 2025 PISA study, published on September 8, show a dramatic drop in performance in reading and mathematics around the world.

The Program for International Student Assessment, better known as PISA, is a global study that measures how well 15-year-old students can apply their knowledge and skills in reading, mathematics and science to real-life situations. The test is designed to measure problem-solving skills rather than evaluate students on memorized school facts, which means they cannot revise in preparation for it.

First administered in 2000, it is considered the world's most influential measure of educational performance.

In 2025, more than 760,000 students in 91 countries and economies took the test.

The study always includes in its ranking the average of the international group of 38 advanced, high-income countries that are part of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, the OECD.

Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, complains after a man who assaulted police officers is released from prison the same day he is arrested

On Friday morning September 5 in via Cavour, near Roma Termini station, two officers from the Commissariato Viminale were arresting a 29-year-old man. He resisted, headbutted one officer, and injured both (each given a 7-day prognosis). He was charged with assault, resisting arrest, insulting a public official, and causing injuries.

The man was taken to Rome court on Saturday for an expedited hearing (giudizio direttissimo). The judge validated the arrest but released him the same day. The police union Coisp (secretary Domenico Pianese) first publicized the video and asked whether officers can still expect meaningful consequences when they are attacked.

Meloni called it unacceptable
