Starts about 1:05 and goes until about 2:40, peaking around 1:45. Just found out about this and I'm currently trying to dig up my solar eclipse glasses from 2024
My son is 6, almost 7. We've been reading the illustrated edition of Sorcerer's Stone and he loves it (tried last year and he wasn't into it, but I convinced him to try again and he's engrossed)! He was even pretending to be the Dursleys (his favorites) and Hagrid with his friend a couple days ago 🥹 I'm planning to show him the first movie once we finish reading, and I am SO excited to be able to watch the show with him as it comes out!! I love that he will be able to grow up with Harry Potter coming out just as I did, and will age just right for each season - planning to hold off reading/watching past CoS (or maybe PoA) until he's a little older, but the show should release right on schedule for that
I'm a 29F who has had poor posture my whole life. For years now it's caused me a lot of pain and other issues. Starting to go to PT and work on it. I'm pretty insecure about the broad look of my shoulders and ribcage - curious if fixing my posture issues will eventually make any significant visual difference to that (other than no longer looking rounded)?
They're not insanely broad but definitely broader than your average white woman. I do have flared ribs currently and naturally carry a lot of fat on my outer upper arms near my shoulder/inside corner next to my armpit (I'm actually a tad underweight right now but my body still stubbornly stores fat in those places - wondering if that is at all connected to posture)
My 6 year old is obsessed with black holes. There's plenty of non-fiction books about them at our library, but we're also looking for more fictional stories that involve them. So far we've read (and he's loved) "The Black Hole Debacle" and "The Universe Ate My Homework". Any other recommendations?
I'm (29F) considering quitting kratom because it has slowly but surely started to really mess with my hormones. Hair loss, almost zero libido, and now my periods are irregular. What I am most scared of is the chills. They are the first withdrawal symptom I get, and for me they're the worst. I can power through everything else, but the chills are what make me the most hesitant. Is there anything that (significantly or fully) helps with them? And how long do they last?
I've taken about 15-30 grams of powder daily for about 4 years
Currently have a very late period (which never happens for me) and worried about a potential ectopic due to having a copper IUD. The past several weeks I have noticed a hard lump on my left pelvis, about an inch or two from the upper part of my hipbone (only noticeable when laying down flat), around where I assume my fallopian tube would be. I am currently underweight due to recent health issues, so perhaps it is more easily noticeable for me than average. I have seen a few mentions of a palpable pelvic/adnexal mass in literature being tied to ectopics when Googling, but haven't come across any firsthand experiences
29F, one prior birth 7 years ago and no pregnancies since. My period is about a week or so late (I don't track it exactly). It's only been this late once or MAYBE twice before in my life. I've had some mild brown spotting the past few days. I took a home pregnancy test late yesterday, and it was negative, but it seems that can happen with ectopics
What's really bugging me is that it's quite unlikely I could have conceived this cycle (haven't been active with my partner). Last cycle is much more likely...and last month I had a day or so of brown spotting followed by a lighter than normal period (all of which was maybe a couple days later than normal). So I'm paranoid I'm actually 2 months along, because some women still appear to get periods during it??
I do have various aches and pains, including my left leg at the moment, and have been pretty fatigued the past few days, but those aren't uncommon for me due to a health condition I have. No other apparent symptoms
Another thing - I doubt it could be related but might as well mention it just in case - the past month or so I've noticed an elongated lump on my left pelvis by my hipbone when I'm laying down. It's right around where I assume my ovary is. I have lost a decent amount of weight since December for various reasons (was average weight, now a little underweight, but recently started slowly gaining again), so it's possible it's just some normal body variation that wasn't noticeable before though
Hoping to get in with my OB tomorrow, but I have anxiety and I'm REALLY scared of it being an ectopic and the potential for rupture while I wait for the appointment (especially while I sleep tonight), and then the time after the appointment for blood test results 😭 my mom had an ectopic pregnancy and she needed to get surgery. Does it sound like I need to be worried?
George RR Martin was heavily inspired by medieval Europe, especially England, when creating his universe for A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones. In-universe, "milk of the poppy" is frequently used as an effective painkiller. This is clearly meant to be from the opium poppy. Did the English actually have/use this as a treatment as early as the medieval era in real life?
Does anyone have recommendations for OTC supplements or exercises or anything else that can help relieve the crushing fatigue (and oft-accompanying brain fog)? The fatigue gets worse when my neck is worse/tight - which is ironically worsened by laying down for long periods. So I get trapped in a vicious cycle of being too exhausted to not lay down but laying down makes it worse. And it can take days to go back to normal even if I force myself up. Is there anything that can help with this while waiting for treatment? I've already ruled out underlying deficiencies and other conditions. It's awful. I have ADHD as well so I struggle enough without this. My Concerta prescription helps some, but I can only take that on occasion due to side effects...stimulants with less side effects like caffeine or Modafinil barely touch it on bad days. There is another OTC supplement I take which I won't name here to be safe (it is legal but there's kind of a stigma) which helps decently but it's still not enough. There are some things I really need to get done and my parents are getting increasingly angry at me for not completing them, but I just can't despite badly wanting to. It's difficult to make them understand. It's a Herculean effort to just to get up to make food or to shower during flare ups (going through one right now)
I know it can be either "no-el" (like Christmas) or "knoll" (rhyming with Joel). Curious what people's first instinct is
I don't love the knoll pronunciation, but it's one of my favorite boy names when pronounced no-el. Spelling it Noël would make this pronunciation more obvious, but not sure if it's practical to use the diaeresis symbol here in the US for paperwork reasons. Though I do hope to move to a European country - possibly the Netherlands - in the future
My 6 year old basically refuses to drink anything until mid afternoon. He drinks normally later in the day, but before that, I have to fight with him to take even a few small sips. He was having abdominal pain the past couple days and we took him in to rule out appendicitis and it turns out it's some constipation. He already takes a magnesium citrate gummy nightly, as well as a fiber gummy if he hasn't eaten his fruits and veggies well enough that day (though we've been out of the fiber gummy the past few days). I think the hydration is likely a contributing factor
Any ideas to encourage him to drink water without loading up on sugar/artificial sweeteners/other unhealthy ingredients? I gave him a kids flavored electrolyte drink when he was at an outside camp a couple weeks ago, and he said he'd drink a lot if it was that, but that is high in salt so it's not great for everyday usage
About a month ago I made a post here about getting tested for a extraordinarily rare genetic mutation that causes telomere biology disorder. Long story short, it means your telomeres are abnormally short, and gives you a higher chance than not of developing life-threatening conditions like pulmonary fibrosis and bone marrow failure at a young age. My (asymptomatic) mom has it, as does my sister, which meant I had a 50% chance myself. I really felt like I was going to test positive, but the results came back today (much quicker than expected) and it's negative!!! Not only am I relieved for myself, but this also means there's no chance my young child can have inherited it from me. I was really scared for him especially, since the problems usually manifest earlier with each successive generation
And, bonus win - my sister has the bone marrow failure (she was the first in the family to be diagnosed with the mutation), but she is in a medication trial for it which has recently brought her white blood cell count back to normal levels!
I still have other stressors going on, but this has lifted a tremendous weight off my shoulders. It feels like I have a second chance at life. Now I just need to go explain to everyone in my life why I was ghosting them the past few months 😵💫
Dinner: mashed banana and lingonberry sauce on sprouted wheat bread, and miso tofu
I'm worried it's being undercounted. The CDC says there's only a few thousand cases nationwide, but I've seen so many people online saying they have it. New Jersey's current official numbers are 30-80. Anyone have it themselves, or know someone who does?
*Cyclospora. Can't edit title
I've been searching for vintage clothing, particularly dresses, on FB marketplace. It doesn't always have a size on the tag (even when it does, vintage sizing can be different from modern sizing) and it can get quite pricey. I don't want to drop $80+ on something that might not fit me. Would it be reasonable to ask if I can try it on first (over my clothes - would not ask to go into someone's bathroom to change) with the reassurance I'll definitely buy it if it fits? Or is that rude to even request?
My kid is 6 (almost 7) and is obsessed with Magic the Gathering. He also likes Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh, and really wants to try DnD. Anyone know of any game stores in the area that have events open to/attended by younger kids? So far I can only find ones for adults or at least older kids. It would be great to find a group of other kids for him to play with

My dad's (67M) memory has been declining. It started when he got COVID in 2021, and has slowly gotten worse since. I was able to heal his immune/lung issues leftover from COVID with a supplement regimen, but still looking for the right stack for this
He forgets things that I tell him more than normal. It's not full on dementia/Alzheimer's or anything yet (and there's no family history of that), but hoping to prevent it from developing further. He does go for daily walks
Not interested in any peptides - he won't want anything injectable/too experimental. I know lion's mane is an obvious one, but concerned about the potential hormonal/mood effects (I've taken it in the past and it did help my memory, but had notable side effects)
There's a wasp/yellow jacket (not sure which) nest through the circled crack (above it on the inside). My dad has tried to spray it, but can't angle the spray bottle in a way to fully get the nest, so they're still alive and well. Anyone have ideas to get rid of them? Three of my family members have gotten stung so far going through the door 😭
