I dropped out of university, lost my friends, can't get a normal job. My brain fog is so severe I can't form a normal sentence and can't communicate with others. Can it be early onset dementia?

28 M here have been struggling with multiple depressive episodes. Last year I developed severe brain fog and adult onset stuttering like dysfluency, inability to focus, blank mind, memory problems and anhedonia. We tried multiple medications but nothing helped.
I can't speak or express myself in any situation, dropped out of university, can't get a job, lost all of my friends. I'm deeply suicidal but I'm too afraid to do it.
Do you have any idea what could it be?
Has anyone else been through this?

Visszatérő betegség és lázas érzet mérhető láz nélkül?

Sziasztok!

Did anyone else regained hair color after chronic illness and prolonged use of drugs like corticosteroids or antibiotics?

Did anyone else regained hair color after chronic illness and prolonged use of drugs like corticosteroids or antibiotics.

I'm just 28 and I got so many grey hair in a couple of months last summer and everybody thinks I'm 20 years older.

It has been a year since stopped the medication but the color hasn't returned yet.

If so how long did it take?

Recurrent malaise and chills without measureable fever

28 M
1.93 m 100 kg
Hungary

Every day, I repeatedly feel like I have a fever and get chills, even though my body temperature remains normal.
At the same time, I also have a sore throat. Has anyone else experienced something similar?
It first started a few years ago, occurring about once every two months. Because I also had a sore throat, it was thought to be tonsillitis, and I was prescribed Augmentin. My symptoms usually improved within a week, but they came back again a few weeks later.
Over the past few months, the episodes have become more and more frequent, and eventually even Augmentin stopped helping.
Will a tonsillectomy cure this?
Does anyone have any other ideas besides tonsillitis?

Has anyone managed a tonsillectomy under local anesthesia with a very strong gag reflex?

Hi everyone,
I'm scheduled to have a tonsillectomy under local anesthesia, but I'm really worried because I have an extremely strong gag reflex. Even simple throat examinations make me gag.
My ENT surgeon recommended having the surgery under general anesthesia, but I would really prefer to have it done under local anesthesia if possible.
Has anyone here had a tonsillectomy under local anesthesia despite having a strong gag reflex?
Did anything help reduce your gag reflex before or during the procedure? For example, breathing techniques, throat numbing sprays, medications, or anything else?
I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences because I'm quite anxious that my gag reflex will make the surgery impossible.

I'm looking for people who underwent a tonsillectomy while taking antidepressants.

I'm scheduled to have my tonsils removed because of recurrent tonsillitis. However, I'm currently taking two antidepressants (10 mg Trintellix and 30 mg Cymbalta), and I'm worried that they might increase the risk of bleeding during or after the surgery.
Has anyone here undergone a tonsillectomy while taking antidepressants? What was your experience?

Who else has had their life turned upside down by chronic throat infections or recurrent tonsillitis?

I have been struggling with chronic throat and tonsil infections since I was 22 years old. At this point, my throat becomes inflamed every 3–4 weeks. It becomes painful, I experience chills (although I have never had a measurable fever), and I feel extremely unwell. I feel very sick overall, and I often experience severe brain fog.
Each time, I am prescribed Augmentin. I start to improve within a few days, but then 3–4 weeks after finishing the course, the whole cycle starts again.
Over the years, tonsil removal has been recommended to me several times. However, I was always very afraid of the risk of bleeding, so I kept postponing it. Right now, though, my quality of life has become so poor because of this that I have finally scheduled the surgery.
I am looking for people who have had similar experiences and would be willing to share how they coped with it. Did anything help you besides surgery?
Success stories would be especially appreciated.

Effexor caused extreme weight gain for me — anyone had better luck on other SSRIs/SNRIs?

Hi everyone,
I’m looking for people who experienced major weight gain on Effexor specifically, but did NOT have the same issue with other serotonin-based antidepressants.

I went from 95 kg to 115 kg while taking Effexor. What makes this especially strange for me is that I was naturally skinny my whole life before this. Even without working out, I could eat basically anything I wanted and never gained weight easily.
But on Effexor, something completely changed.

The weight gain felt extreme and very different from anything I had experienced before.
I’m curious if anyone else had a similar experience and later switched to another SSRI/SNRI or antidepressant that caused less weight gain or felt more weight-neutral.

If this happened to you:
Which medication did you switch to?
Did your appetite or metabolism improve afterward?
Was it easier to lose the weight after stopping Effexor?

TLDR Looking for people who gained excessive weight on Effexor but loose it after switching to other SSRI or other antidepressants

Antibiotics (Augmentin) Quiet My OCD Almost Completely — Why Would This Happen?

I’ve had OCD since early childhood, but in the last few years my symptoms have become extremely severe.
Right now I’m dealing with ongoing dental and tonsil/throat problems, and I noticed something very strange: whenever I take Augmentin (amoxicillin/clavulanic acid), my OCD symptoms become dramatically quieter during the antibiotic course. The constant obsessive thoughts, anxiety, mental pressure and compulsions calm down significantly — sometimes almost completely.
Then a few days after finishing the antibiotics, the OCD symptoms return again.
This has happened multiple times now, so it doesn’t feel random anymore.
I know antibiotics are not a treatment for OCD, but I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar, especially related to infections, inflammation, tonsils, dental issues, or immune system activation.
Has anyone here had OCD symptoms improve temporarily while taking antibiotics? If yes, did you ever figure out why?
TL;DR: Severe lifelong OCD symptoms temporarily improve dramatically while taking Augmentin (amoxicillin/clavulanic acid), then return after stopping the antibiotic. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Anyone Else Develop Severe Stuttering and Brain Fog After COVID?

I’m writing this because I honestly feel desperate and isolated, and I want to know if anyone has experienced something similar.
Around the COVID pandemic in 2021, I suddenly developed severe stuttering and extreme brain fog. Before that, I had NEVER stuttered in my childhood or earlier life. It came out of nowhere.
In 2022, after starting an SSRI, the stuttering and brain fog disappeared almost completely for about a year.
Then in early 2024, everything suddenly came back again for no obvious reason. The stuttering and brain fog became so severe that I had to stop private tutoring, which I previously loved doing. Around the same time, I also developed severe anhedonia for about 6 months — I completely lost my libido, couldn’t feel pleasure, motivation, or emotional connection to anything.
Then in summer 2024, when my Effexor (venlafaxine) dose was reduced from 150 mg to 75 mg, something strange happened: the stuttering, brain fog, and anhedonia almost completely disappeared for about 2 months.
In 2025, we also tried switching from Effexor to Trintellix (vortioxetine), and during the first few days of the switch, the stuttering and brain fog suddenly improved again for a short time — then the symptoms returned.
Since winter 2024, the stuttering, brain fog, and anhedonia have continued to come and go, but overall they remain severe.
My psychiatrist and I have tried many different medications and dose changes, but nothing has really helped long term.
At this point I feel extremely hopeless. I barely have any motivation left to live.
Because of the brain fog and stuttering, I’ve become isolated from my family and friends. I can barely communicate normally anymore or feel connected to people. It feels like I lost the person I used to be.
If anyone has experienced something similar — especially sudden adult-onset stuttering + brain fog after COVID — please share your experience. And if you managed to recover or improve, please tell me what helped.
TL;DR: Sudden onset stuttering and severe brain fog after the COVID era, temporary improvement with SSRIs, Effexor dose reduction, and briefly during switching to Trintellix — then relapse. Looking for people with similar experiences or recovery stories.
