Virtual cards really should be a free feature by now

It feels ridiculous that virtual cards are still locked behind a paid tier. Almost every other digital bank or fintech app lets you create at least one or two virtual cards for free to use online safely. Charging a monthly subscription just to avoid putting your real card details on a sketchy website feels a bit behind the times

Is it actually worth registering as self-employed if you're only doing occasional delivery driving on the side?

I'm doing some work on Just Eat and Deliveroo alongside other stuff and I'm not sure if I need to register as self-employed or if it's below some threshold. Do I have to tell HMRC about it straight away or is there a limit on side income before it becomes their problem?

Offered a job verbally but now the company has gone completely silent

I had a final interview two weeks ago and the hiring manager rang me the next day to say I got the job and they were sorting the paperwork. I was over the moon. I emailed a week later just to check in and got no reply. Tried calling today and it went straight to voicemail. I have not handed notice in at my current place yet thank goodness, but is it normal for HR to ghost you after an offer?

What is the loneliest part of moving here that nobody really talks about?

I moved a couple of months ago and while making work acquaintances is easy enough, building a proper core friend group feels incredibly tough. Everyone already seems to have their established circles from university or childhood and it is quite isolating

What actually counts as a reasonable excuse for a late filing penalty?

Got hit with a £100 penalty for missing the January deadline. I had a genuine family emergency around that time and couldn't get to it. I've heard you can appeal if you have a reasonable excuse but I have no idea how strict HMRC actually are about what counts. Has anyone successfully appealed one of these?

Who is the best premium option to pair with Erling Haaland for the opening month?

Are you leaning towards Bruno Fernandes under Carrick, a rest-protected Cole Palmer under Xabi Alonso, or fitting in a premium Arsenal asset like Bukayo Saka. Who gives the best balance without completely decimating the rest of your starting eleven?

How common is it to get charged a maximum fare because of a glitchy contactless reader?

Checked my TfL online account this morning and realized I got hit with an eight pound sixty entry charge because the barrier at Tottenham Hale apparently didn’t register my phone tap on the way out. I distinctly remember the green light flashing and the gate opening. Is the auto-rectification system usually smart enough to fix this or am I going to have to chase customer service for a refund?

How long does it actually take to get a marriage allowance refund processed?

My wife and I applied for the marriage allowance transfer online about six weeks ago as she earns under the personal allowance threshold and I am a basic rate taxpayer. The system says the application was successful and approved but we still haven't seen a single penny drop into our bank account or any adjustment to my tax code

Why does London still not have a 24 hour tube on all lines and is there a real reason or is it just inertia?

The Night Tube exists on some lines and doesn't on others and I've never fully understood why the coverage is so patchy. Is it genuinely about infrastructure and staffing or has the expansion just stalled for political and financial reasons that nobody wants to explain clearly?

Is it worth waiting for better trade in prices or do they basically never go up?

I've got an iPhone 13 I'm looking to trade in and the current cash price feels low. I can't work out if prices ever actually increase or if waiting just means it depreciates further. How do people time this or do you just take what you can get?

Which volunteer role do you think is secretly the hardest to do?

Everyone knows being the run director is stressful, but which of the standard roles do you think carries the most hidden pressure? For me, it has to be timekeeping. The sheer terror of accidentally clicking the button twice or missing someone crossing the line and ruining the entire event's results format sounds exhausting

Is a standalone SIPP always better than a workplace scheme?

Every time I look at the management fees and limited fund choices on my current employer's default pension provider, I get tempted to just transfer the bulk of it out into a standalone SIPP. Aside from keeping the minimum balance active to secure the employer match, is there any actual downside to doing a partial transfer out every single year to get cheaper index funds?

Why do people still try to push onto the train before letting others off

It is literally the most basic rule of public transport, yet every single day you see people forming a solid wall right in front of the opening doors at King's Cross. Why are people in such a rush that they think blocking the exit is going to help them get a seat quicker?

Is it a terrible idea to completely remove the bath and just have a walk in shower?

We are planning a full renovation of our tiny downstairs family bathroom next month. My partner wants to bin the bath entirely to create space for a massive walk in waterfall shower but everyone keeps telling us it will completely ruin the resale value for future buyers with young kids. Has anyone actually regretted doing this?
