How’s this for some unconventional entertainment at a whisky-fuelled Irish-American wedding?

I have seven boxes of Cards Against Humanity, one for each table as badass icebreakers. RRP new is something over £40. I bought mine second-hand, mint condition and complete, for various prices from different sellers but all under £10! Thee will also be two Twister mats for when the whisky REALLY kicks in (I’m thinking maybe a trip to Costco or something to stock up, this innocent Midwestern hotel is suddenly going to be swamped with Fenians who’ll drink the place dry in an hour maximum) and a corner with some cool books and board games for people who want to chill rather than dance.

My fiancé’s family are all absolutely fascinated by Ireland and this magical land I’m “rescuing” him to with universal healthcare and government-subsidised university education that only costs £5k a year 🤣 I saw this game in Oxfam, brand new, knew for sure they’d get a kick out of it, and it was £5! I also have second-hand complete sets of other games too (although the Twister mats will be new because God knows who did what on them 🤢) and a selection of short, cool books that were about £2 each from the local used bookshop.

Also… of course we’re doing “Rock the Boat” 🤣

Any Funko Pop collectors - the Hospice Shop near Dunnes in town just got in a ton of them for £5 each

Just thought I’d give you guys a heads up since I used to collect Marvel ones. I don’t know how rare any of them are because I’m only familiar with Marvel, but the boxes are mint condition and that’s darn cheap for a Funko.

They have been idiots and actually put sticky labels on with the price, but they’re on the plastic bit so easily removable.

I figured some of you might be interested to know, especially if you score a rarity for a fiver!

I’m Irish and have a day in Boston. Any suggestions on cool things to do?

It’s late in the day but I’ve just had my flight changed and now have an 11 hour layover in Boston. No way will I sit in an airport that long. I’m from Ireland and really interested to see cool parts of the city because there’s such a huge diaspora there, including a ton of distant relatives I’ve never met. The last time I was there it was only to pass through on my way to Cambridge so it doesn’t count.

Can anyone suggest fun places to go that aren’t just tourist traps? Or is anyone crazy enough to want to hang out for an hour in the afternoon in the pub with a random redhead from Ireland for a gossip? I can teach you how to cuss in Irish! 🤣

Thank you to everyone who sent me trades because I had to wait for special assistance and missed out!

The keychain is on my bag and I wore all the bracelets on my right wrist to the Citi Field show! They made awesome accessories! (Especially the one with the name of my recently deceased cat Lilith on it, it meant a lot to me. I’m going to try and not fail too badly at making one with my other cat Angelina who died in early June’s name on it now, because I’m definitely wearing these at what is essentially turning into an MCR wedding at this point!)

(And then right after this photo was taken I fell over because I refused to let my walking stick into the shot out of pride 🤣)

Tale from the other side of the desk for once!

Just went to see My Chemical Romance in NYC and stayed nearby in Flushing at an R by W. Oh my God, it was a nightmare. My friend prepaid. They forgot to debit her card so she had not budgeted for it. I had no card with me (jacket nicked from overhead bin on plane) and they refused every possible offer of ways of getting money, in between loudly talking smack about us in a language they didn’t realise I spoke and understood 😡

So, at the age of 40 and 51, we sat in the lobby and called our mums 🙄 the guy behind the desk repeatedly refused to take a credit card over the phone without a physical card even with a photo of it until my Ma finally, after THREE HOURS, said in her frighteningly calm Irish voice “Why don’t you just put me on the phone with him.”

My God. The look of terror on his face. My Ma is something else. Suddenly a photo of the card was fine with a photo ID too and WE WOULDN’T HAVE HAD TO STAY IN THE LOBBY FOR THREE DAMN HOURS IF HE HAD JUST OPENED WITH THAT😡

Also, the rooms are foul, they were not clean, and the same reception guys talked smack about us whenever we walked past afterwards. A__holes. I was very polite. I’m Irish, it’s second nature, but they treated us like dirt on their shoe because we were having issues (I had the money in my account but no way of getting it to my friend because it would have been an IBAN and taken a week minimum.)

I know guests suck, but… we don’t all suck. Yes, I have tattoos and resemble an Irish Joan Jett, but that’s no reason to flat-out assume I’m an addict trying to scam a room out of you when my friend and I were clearly trying our best, let alone keep yelling across a crowded lobby every five minutes “HAVE YOU TWO FIGURED OUT HOW TO PAY YET?”

EDIT: Actually something else just developed on this - she checked her account and it was paid, the money went out when she booked the hotel, on their site, at the same time as the tickets for the concert nearby months ago, and we’ve been insulted repeatedly and called unprepared when actually we’ve been made to pay twice. Thanks.

NI: My agreed catsitter walked out with my keys and abandoned my cat after two days, refused to go back and look after him or hand him to another sitter, and I had to get someone in NI to actually go and physically take the keys to rescue the cat. Is there anything I can do legally?

I left my cat with someone I thought was a close friend while I went to the US for my hen party. He had agreed to stay the whole time and seemed totally reliable. After two days he walked off and abandoned my cat, taking my only keys despite telling me he had no intention of going back or passing him onto another sitter. The cat was alone with barely any food or water for two days and the litterbox was overflowing before someone back in NI took the keys from him and rescued my cat.

Said cat is a £1400 Maine Coon and I have incurred >£250 additional costs easily so far from his doing this, if that’s relevant.

Is there any potential legal action I can take, criminal or civil? One does not simply f__k with my cat.

My catsitter has abandoned my cat in my house alone, locked the door, and left. He has the only spare keys. What do I do?

I’ve been trying to sort this from 3000 miles away across 5 time zones and he is refusing to cooperate at all and just keeps going on about his problems. I have got to the point of finding another sitter, saying I’ll have a taxi outside to take my cat to them, and he just has to put him in his carrier. Apparently I refuse to understand and only care about my cat when I don’t want him left alone for 10 DAYS.

He is currently refusing to go back. If I get someone in the UK to call the police for me, will they break in to rescue my cat and take him somewhere safe? My other local friends (if you can call him a friend) are on a girls’ holiday in Bundoran right now.

ETA: I am located in Belfast in the New Lodge.

UPDATE: A lovely lady from Larne (I forgive the city for cursing me with the habit of using the word “thon” which causes endless hilarity outside Ireland) is going to go and rescue my baby tomorrow at 4! Catsitter still lying to both of us, still whining and bitching at me. Screw him. PSNI are going to go say hi as soon as I get back.

I will update again once he is definitely with his new (temporary, mama still loves him) person!

UPDATE 2: It won’t let me post the photo she sent which is a shame because it’s adorable, but the lovely lady from Larne has my cat and he should be en route to Bangor! (I’ll put the photo in the comments, it’s too cute to miss!)

UPDATE 3: Dodo is safely in Bangor and I can (hopefully) finally calm down a bit and ditch all the frantic panic. Lovely Lady of Larne is Reddit Heroine of the Day (unless someone jumps into a swollen river to rescue a school bus of kids mid-posting later, then it might be Reddit Cat Heroine 🤣

Thank you, everyone who gave advice and reassurance, these past days have been hideous.

Not thank you to the person who accused me of scamming despite asking for nothing but advice and then refused to delete the libellous comment as promised when I refuted all her points, or to the person who admitted she wasn’t familiar with relevant anything having not read any comments but yeah this should so go to the top instead of the woman offering to actually RESCUE my cat - maybe one of you two and Patrick might hit it off?

The PSNI have now been informed, I’ve sent over all my screenshots and got Patrick to admit in text that he did agree to care for the cat and yes did have the keys and yes had left him and yes wouldn’t hand them over. But apparently “My God will protect me” so that’s fine. My God personally doesn’t care for animal abuse, lies, or psychological abuse and manipulation, but maybe his is different. We’re both Catholic, though, so that’d DEFINITELY be the fart heard round the world if that turned out to be true 🤣

UPDATE 4: Dodo has fallen head over heels for the Catsitter and is happy as a clam, I feel much better now 👍🏻 I’ll post a reply with photos in the comments if I can to the Lovely Lady of Larne!

Got targeted by an MLM this morning by a friend who knows I’m on disability and struggling, and took advantage 😡

Is anyone familiar with this one?

For the first time in over twenty years, I had to show my passport crossing the border into the South…

It’s a good thing I had it on me. Is this a new thing? Because as far as I’m aware we have a soft border, but when I said that to the peeler who had boarded the bus I got a “mind your own and show your fucking passport or you’ll be deboarded.” Nice.

(And yes, I took a quick photo because I knew otherwise you’d all laugh at me and say it never happened. I couldn’t get one of the PSNI, they were parked up further back and the guy checking passports was yelling about filming and photos.)

Thank you to everyone who sent me lovely keychains and bracelets and beautiful art because I’d missed out on trading!

I just wanted to say I got a clump of post this morning including some amazing items and all of them had lovely little letters too, just because I put on here that because I was wheelchair assistance I never got to take part and was really sad about it because I wanted to keep items to wear to my wedding (met my fiancé through MCR) and had made a bunch of MCR-coloured Irish good luck charms for people (I’m Irish.)

You are all SO talented, and to the girl who sent the prints I’m getting them framed and hanging them in my apartment. If you’re not already or haven’t, go to art school. Seriously. If you haven’t gone and you’re this good pretty much untrained… yeah. I definitely see a LOT of potential. Please grab it with both hands and see where it takes you.

“I, the Grand Immortal Dicktator Tsar Schrödinger, am of such status that I take monstrous s**** that cost the price of a small car.”

Yup. Dashed to the vet hospital, convinced he was dying. He was not. He just needed to take a really big dump.

He took a >£5k total resultant cost massive dump minutes after arrival, after which he miraculously wasn’t dying anymore and wanted to sniff things and hump the other cats 🙄

I had my first £500 wedding dress fitting yesterday!

My dress is so perfect (once the butt rose is gone) and I just love it so much. I think the seamstress I went to (an awesome woman who went to fashion school in Romania before she came to Belfast) was just as excited, because she was standing there going on about did I know she usually saw and ugly summer dresses and horrible fabrics and boring design, and how exciting and fun it was to get to work on this lace and detail and actually use her training rather than hem someone’s party dress that was too long.

I’m just standing there feeling really awkward in my dress that has pins in the sides, getting redder and redder while this woman who I have just paid to enlarge the cups of my dress from a B to an HH because of my gigantic tits is rambling on about how she loves couture and thank you for trusting her with it, because I just have no idea what to say to that. Then she asked me how much on earth did it cost. I told her £500 (bargain of the century.) “But it is brand new Ian Stuart!” “Yeah, but the was-to-be bride fancied a last minute package trip to Malaga with her favourite boyfriend and that’s what that cost.”

I call it my “Age of Innocence” dress after the book by Edith Wharton because it seems very much to me like something the female protagonist would wear, and it was like a gift from the Gods. I’ve always dreamed of wearing Ian Stuart since I was at art school because as my elective I did bridal fashion and his label puts out some wild dresses. It’s like the church - it’s exactly what I’d been looking for, I just didn’t know until I saw it! It just needs taking in a couple inches at the waist and about half an inch to an inch in the back and sides (the pins aren’t in yet in the pictures so it was still a bit loose!) and it’ll fit like a glove and look and look absolutely perfect!

(Without the butt rose.)
