If I leave the game running, will they eventually die?

I just want to be able to say to myself that I beat the Reaper without the Infinity Corridor or Crimson Shroud but the games been running for a while now and they're just not going down. I'm at a point where most runs I get the two weapons and beat the Reaper. This run was my first with Perkeo and it went off the rails.

What am I missing, why aren't they dying?
