Pet Jackdaw: what I've learned and what I would like to know

So we rescued this little guy who had fallen into a chimney. The mother was nowhere to be found, and it looked to be around a month old (the picture is more recent). We hand fed her with tweezers for a while, and with us, she has finally learned how to eat and fly and is about 2 months old.

I would like to share some things I've figured out and ask a few tips on how to continue this bird journey. (Also please correct me or explain some of my experiences/knowledge)

Journey so far:

- She is a very interactive bird. She will fly onto my shoulders almost any chance she gets to greet me and play with my jewlery/glasses.

- Since she doesn't have arms/hands then she feels around with her beak alot, when I put my hand near her she will "bite" around my fingers, but put no pressure into the bite (I'm taking this as her just wanting to interact with me)

- She knows what is "her territory". We used to keep her caged up for most of the time when we brought her in, just to keep her away from harm. We let her play in the grass only under someone's supervision. After she became better skilled at flying, we usually keep the cage door open all day and only put her back for the night (again for safety). We thought she might fly away and go back to the wilderness once she was capable enough, but she doesn't fly further than our yard. This leads me to think she might stay with us her entire life.

- She is very much a "mama's boy", out of my family I've somehow become the favourite who she loves to interact with the most and flies back to if someone tries to take her off of me.

Now some things I would like to know:

  1. I have mostly been calling her "she" for now, but I actually don't know the gender of the bird. Is there any way of figuring this out without going to get tested by a doctor or something?

  2. Today she got "excited(?)" over a dried chunk of grass. I offered it to her and she slightly bent down and started shaking her tail. For some birds a similar action is associated with arousal or being ready to mate. Was she aroused by a fluff of grass or does that body movement also sometimes mean anything else?

  3. We've given her a name that she sometimes seems to react to? Is there any specific way to teach her what her name is or do we just continue trying to call her by her name?

  4. How does one go about teaching things to a bird and is she old enough to be taught? I have experience teaching dogs before, which for something like "sit" is usually you say the command and put some pressure on the dog's lower back to make the dog sit and then you give the reward, essentially helping the dog get into position. I have trouble understanding how this would work on a bird, like calling the bird onto your hand, telling it to get off of you or even further down the line, maybe putting coins into a yar etc. You can't really "fly the bird into place" like you can with other animals.

I think that's it for now. I'll be happy to clarify any questions or experiences if need be. Just would really appriciate some info about this wonderful bird :))

Other tips and behavioural explanations also greatly appreciated ❤️

Do people see it when you repost their post?

I was wondering if I should be commenting mentioning the repost for "divorced birds" or they get a notification.

Munchkin expansions: worth buying?

I own the Munchkin board game and the unnatural axe expansion. Having played it many times, my group has gotten used to the cards, but we are debating whether to buy expansions for a few reasons.

  1. Which expansion to buy, if they need to be bought in order, we could buy the next but honestly, the added cards for the next expansion don't seem that interesting.

  2. Physically having so many cards. It's already a pain to shuffle every time.

  3. Some of our favorite cards are the custom ones we made with the blank ones. I'm not sure if all the expansions also have blank cards.

Any advice or input?

this is Pancho!

we don't know if it's a he or a she. at first we all thought it was a He, so that's why it's name is Pancho, but now we think it's a She. What we do know is that it's 30yo and is very loved by all my family members ^^

The day I realized he was faking being dependent 💀

This guy had been on hand feeding for over a year 😭 I had an idea since I also seen him eating his pellets and veggies and just ignored his "I'm hungry feed me" honks and sure enough this guy stopped asking for formula after a couple days... What a spoiled bum lol

[Sharing Recs] DC fics, mostly SuperBat

I made this list a few months ago for oomf and thought I could also share it here. If you read and like any, please tell me (I like having my taste validated).

All fics are DC universe, most are SuperBat (Clark Kent / Bruce Wayne) almost all are PG-13 (I labeled if not). I love to see healthy relationships in fics and lots of fluff so you'll see that throughout.

Wingspan v Wyrmspan

I have been playing a variety of board games for years and especially loved Wingspan for the graphics and strategic gameplay. While luck plays a role, it was balanced by the customizability of the round goals that could be balanced to make it more complex and less luck oriented. I will say, the 3 card display to pick a bird was horrible and we pretty much immediately got rid of it as it extended the length of a game by about an hour (we are all very competitive).

Recently, we have been playing Wyrmspan and it just isn't as fun. While I like the game play and think it does fix some of the weaknesses and over-reliance on luck of Wingspan, the facts about birds were one of my favorite parts about Wingspan and I loved collecting the trivia. I was just disappointed to not even have the depth of detail into the fake facts. I play DnD and it's easy to make up the facts and a fictional world and regions, fleshing out the cards more would not have been very hard.

Privacy on Reddit: Can people see my profile activity and can I turn it off?

Main question: Can people see what I've posted, commented, and my communities (if so, can I block that)? Can people link my email to my account?

Added Question: Is the only way to search something to scroll a subreddit?

I just joined and have no idea how to use this and while I could watch a long tutorial or research it in depth or even ask an LLM, my main concern about privacy I'd like a human to answer.

Questioning, looking for advice

I'm a woman in my 20s and have often been assumed to be not straight throughout my life, often being the token straight in friend groups and not really caring about how I looked most of the time or if other people saw me as attractive (I guess self confidence = not straight).

I've been thinking about it for years, and currently I feel comfortable with the label queer but I'm not sure if it's fully accurate because I genuinely don't know if I am attracted to non men. I am certain I would date a trans man but idk if that counts? It's so internalized in my household and family that I can't properly imagine dating someone who identifies as a woman or any other "not a man" identity either because I instinctively recoil from anything my family would disapprove of.

I haven't had a serious crush or relationship, so I'm not sure how to approach it. Currently, I'l leaning towards just kissing or hooking up with someone at a club (obviously disclosing that I'm questioning).

Just want to vent and ask is anyone has advice on how to explore this properly (please nothing NSFW, I know that alr) and figure out if I can't imagine it because I'm not attracted to women or its just my internalized heteronormativity.

It truly amazes me these things survive in the wild. My birb only likes cold fridge water.

What are some weird things your birds do?
