What reaction does staff expect from a frightened dog being forcibly restrained with a catch pole❓️

Shelters need to be held accountable. Countless dogs are mislabeled as “aggressive” because they react after being mistreated or mishandled during intake. A terrified, stressed dog reacting to force does NOT automatically make them aggressive.

✨️ NOTES: Mater is understandably and rightfully scared. Fearful shelter dogs can react defensively to catch-pole restraint, particularly when handled by unfamiliar people. His growling, lunging, snapping, and avoidance appear to be fear- and stress-based responses rather than evidence of inherent aggression. Importantly, when the pressure is reduced and he is offered treats, Mater has shown that he can calm down and become cooperative—offering his paw, sitting on cue, and wagging his tail. His behavior is strongly influenced by fear and arousal, especially when he becomes overstimulated, and should be evaluated within that context.

✨️ Behavior Notes: Pepsi is friendly, calm, and easy to handle. She is non-reactive and tolerant of other dogs, though her greetings can be somewhat pushy. She did not engage in play but comfortably coexisted with the other dogs. Pepsi enjoys attention, solicits petting, and even leaned against the handler and allowed a brief hug. She responded well to verbal correction and was easily redirected and returned to her kennel. Overall, she has a medium energy level and remained relaxed and cooperative throughout her assessment.

Bologna is a 9-week-old female puppy in need of a rescue, foster, or adopter who can provide the specialized medical care and support she needs. She has a fracture of the right front lateral condyle of the distal humerus and will require orthopedic surgery or, depending on veterinary evaluation, possible amputation.

As a very young puppy, Bologna has her whole life ahead of her and deserves the opportunity to receive timely medical treatment and recover in a safe, loving environment. She will need continued veterinary care, follow-up, and a committed caregiver who can help her through her recovery.

She is gorgeous, but I’ve decided I’m probably not going to keep her. I already have the large Mott in maple and the black loved leather version as well. This color looks very close to my maple Mott and it really doesn’t have much burnishing like my LL Tabby 36 has. It’s still a very beautiful color, and if I didn’t already have the maple, I’d absolutely keep this beauty. They just looked so similar in color IMO. Posting pictures so people can get an idea, since the stock photos online are just so hard to tell what it actually looks like IRL. Hope this helps somebody out there that is considering this bag. She’s very pretty! 😊
