Young Perpetrator's Troubled Upbringing and All the "What If"s

I've started reading the write-ups in this sub, and the stories that are stuck with me are the ones where the perpetrator is young and, seemingly, if only one or two things in their childhood had been different then things might've been different.

For example, 18-year-old Christa Pike imo was a lost case because everything was stacked up against her from the beginning as someone who grew up in a violent environment. But in the case of 16-year-old Janice Sebial, she was separated from her family when she was 7 or 8 and her motive was jealousy because her adoptive siblings had what she didn't have for much of her formative life. This one feels especially preventable because there are clips of her doing TikTok dances and she otherwise seemed to be a normal teenager.

I also have some empathy for people who participated in a murder as a young person and didn't fully understand the consequences of their actions until much later. I think the belief that "X is old enough to know right from wrong" doesn't address how differently someone in their teens or early 20s looks at life (and death) compared to someone in their 40s or 50s. While of course there are the victims and the families left behind, and some young perpetrators will turn out to be repeat offenders, I feel like as a default they should be assumed to be capable of being rehabilitated, especially if they didn't have a history of being violent.

Help I've become obsessed with rice

I used to rely on one of those "rice in a cup," which tasted fine and was an easy way to control meal portions, but nothing to write home about.

But then I finally bought a rice cooker and my god the rice comes out so delicious. I easily eat 3-4 times more rice than I used to, and whereas I used to have a casual relationship with food I now look forward to eating just so I can have rice.

My medical group is Altamed IPA. Why can't I go to any Altamed clinic to see a doctor?

I had to go to urgent care, and this Altamed clinic accepted my insurance card.

For convenience's sake, I decided to update my PCP to be one of the doctors at this same clinic. I even checked if they were accepting new patients.

But when I called my insurance, they said this doctor, who works at Altamed, isn't contracted with my plan and won't take my insurance.

Is this possible? Did I not use the right words? And how do I find a new doctor or a list of the medical groups I can switch to? I've tried using my insurance's database and I don't think it's updated.

What do the cops tell the mom and the sister at the end?

Do they tell the cops Light is Kira? Or do they lie to spare their feelings?

Unrelated, but while Matsuda is the butt of the joke in the series, I feel like he represents the average person. His action at the end may have been driven by emotions, but kudos for stopping Light from killing Nate.

Inuyasha and Kagome's family

Is anyone else surprised by how well they get along with each other? I was expecting Inuyasha to be belligerent or at least standoffish with anyone other than Kagome, but he's helping grampa with chores and perfectly polite with mom in a way that a LOT of teenage boys wouldn't.

On the flip side, my mind is blown by how accepting Kagome's family of who her boyfriend is.

If the side effects are bad enough, can I stop taking antibiotics?

I'm not really someone who normally gets side effects, but just took the first of the prescribed tablets, and I'm getting blurry vision (commonly associated with this medication).

The doctor isn't going to take personal calls and my follow-up appointment won't be in two weeks. Should I stop after only one tablet?

Should I get Insta Pot?

Just used a rice cooker and was surprised by how easy it was.

I'm just trying to save money and stop doing takeours, not learn to cook anything fancy. If I could finally buy raw chicken breasts and cook them myself, that's a win.

So will an Insta Pot be worth it or just redundant for my purpose? (I have a couple basic pans to boil noodles and scramble eggs).

Would Akane have forgiven Ranma IF he'd gotten Shampoo pregnant?

I know there's a running gag that Akane is a jealous fiancee and always assumes the worst (while we know Ranma is physically shy with girls and only interested in Akane anyway).

But say her suspicion here turned out to be true and Ranma was going to stay with Shampoo until an abortion had been arranged. Would she have been able to move past it like all the times she'd caught Ranma in compromising positions?

How to split Zoloft in half?

My doctor started me on 50mg, but I've never taken meds in my life so would like to start with 25mg.

Do I just use a kitchen knife? Scissors? My worry is I have a pet so I don't want to accidentally lose the other half.

New boss and suddenly the efforts and the improvements I made in two years don't matter

Almost makes me wish I could undo everything so she could see how bad things were, but realistically I just want to quit now.

Went to an event and got bullied by strangers

I was in my seat the whole time and literally minding my own business, and a kind stranger told me the two girls sitting behind me were putting stickers on my shirt, like wtf.

I was having a good time and now I feel like crap.

In my 40s. Do I have hearing loss?

I wasn't a concert goer, not the kind of teenager who listened to music nonstop. In 2019-2020 I did get into audiobooks and had earbuds on basically all day, but that was that.

Recently I went to a live concert. I seemed to be more sensitive to the sound level than others because I had to put on my earplugs on when I wasn't even that close from the stage. But then my senses adjusted, so I slipped to the front row, and was mesmerized by how few people wore earplugs.

That led to some googling about hearing loss, and now I can't help but hear a faint constant ringing in my ears. Has it always been there, or only after the live concert? Is there even a ringing, or am I just imagining it?

FWIW, when my phone automatically adjusts the decibel level when I plug in my earbuds, my instinct is to increase the volume. Do the default volume is too low for me, although acceptable.

Do I have hearing loss?

First time having a "toxic" boss - how to deal

I'm not young, so I've had my share of bad bosses and bad work environments. But this is the first time I have strong feelings about my new boss, who seems to be watching me like a hawk, nitpicking everything I do, and adding more tasks and telling me I should be able to handle it at my level (my pay is about 1/3 of what this person gets paid).

The job itself I've come to dislike but it at least felt manageable. Under this new boss, I no longer have any doubt that I want to quit. I just worry I can't stick it out long enough before getting an offer. Sometimes when I get an email from this new boss, I want to reach into the screen and strangle them.

New boss is driving me up the wall

I'm used to bosses who are hands-off. My complaints were usually about how I received no feedback and had no idea how well or badly I was doing.

Well, my new boss does nothing but give feedback. I hesitate to say "micromanaging," but good god. This new boss, young and maybe has something to prove, just won't stop. Whether in person or in emails, words are coming in. When they ask a question, it's not framed as "I want to understand the process" but "Why is it like that?! If there's a problem why haven't you fixed it yet?!" My list of action items are growing and they don't seem to realize these things they want me to do will take time.

Then there's just the irritating thing of being told to do something I was going to do anyway, that I knew was part of getting the job done.

I'm usually pretty productive, but honestly every time I get an email from them I feel deflated enough that I end up spending 2-3 hours doing nothing.

Loose shower knob

The knob is loose, but if I press or twist a certain way water can still come out.

How do I fix this?

Cat feels hot but doesn't like the usual suggested cooling methods

I know she feels hot because she's been lying down flat and has tried moving away from the carpet area even with a rotating fan. She's not panting, but temperature might get hotter next month.

She seems okay with a small fan blowing in her direction while sleeping, but she doesn't walk toward the fan herself even when it's on.

She's not interested in ice cubes or a frozen water bottle in a sock.

She wouldn't sit on a damp towel.

She doesn't like it when I brush her with my wet hands.

Literal translation of these three pages

Can someone provide literal translation for comparison's sake? Curious if Shinnosuke's "I love you" is as serious as it is in English, and the nuance of Akane's response.
