Just released our demo for a Kingdom: Two Crowns inspired sci-fi base building game

If anyone has some time, we'd really love any feedback on our demo. Our game does seem to struggle to stand out a little bit and not too many people have played it so far, so it's not getting much feedback. But we are still happy with what we've made so far.

Game Title: Echo Zero

Playable Link:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4378620/Echo_Zero_Demo/

Platform: Windows, Mac, Steam

Echo Zero is a 2D sci-fi roguelike base builder inspired by Kingdom: Two Crowns. Explore a procedurally generated underground world, gather resources, recruit droids, build automated defenses, and survive increasingly dangerous infestation attacks.

The demo includes the opening section of the game and gives you a taste of exploration, combat, base building, automation, and defending your colony. We'd especially love feedback on how the gameplay feels, whether the mechanics are easy to understand, and anything that you think could make the experience better.

The demo is free on Steam. Every bit of feedback helps us make Echo Zero a better game.

Have fun, and let us know what you think ❤️

I'm making a base building game where your base gives birth to you after you die

Hey! I'm one of 3 people working on Echo Zero, a 2D sci-fi roguelike base builder inspired by Kingdom: Two Crowns.

In Echo Zero your base is your shelter, your factory, and your life support system that re-prints you from a substance called Xenozyme after you die, but at the cost of it's power.

One of our main design goals is creating a game where your character is decently capable out in the wild, but still relies heavily on the base you build from scrap to survive. We wanted to expand on the foundation of Kingdom with deeper character builds, more complex automation, and a large variety of upgrades and contraptions that help you survive as long as you can.

During the calm phases, you leave your base to explore the underground, scavenge resources, discover upgrades, and bring back materials to expand your defenses. Every expedition is a risk, but every resource could be what keeps you alive.

Then Species K2 arrives.
Your base is put to the test as waves of enemies push toward your generator. Your droids, production chains, turrets, and layout all determine whether you survive.

The challenge has been balancing the player and the base. You can become powerful, but you’re nothing without your base. Your survival comes from creating something bigger than yourself.

[OC] Mushroom Man process (An enemy for my game)

The Triple Hat.

These creatures are usually found lurking around moss and rot. They can omit a hyper violet spore which poisons humans.

This is inspired by the Artist's Conk mushroom type which can sometimes be seen in forests stacking above other mushrooms around trees which lead me to the triple hat kinda look.

Added a cat who follows you after being rescued

Any name ideas for the cat are much appreciated 😊

Echo Zero is a base-defense roguelite in a world completely abandoned. We're thinking of doing a play-test sometime soon on our discord if anyone would like to try it out and give some feedback.

We made farmable alien resource plants and somehow they turned into eggplants

After a really difficult development journey, we just released the trailer for our sci-fi roguelite

Echo Zero is a sci-fi base-defense roguelite where you're born from slime, and so is the organism trying to kill you. (inspired by Kingdom: Two Crowns)

We've been working on this project for more than three years. During that time the game changed, evolved, and was rebuilt more times than we can count as we searched for something that felt truly unique. It's been a long journey filled with difficult decisions, countless prototypes, and an enormous amount of work from our small team.

We're grateful to everyone who has supported us along the way, and we're excited to finally start sharing more of what we've been building.

Got some enemies exploding on death

We've been working on a variety of enemy types for our 2D base-defense shooter inspired by Kingdom: Two Crowns.

I know it's hard to fully understand the game from this short clip, but we'd love some ideas for enemies that have interesting effects when they die (splitting, explosions, buffs/debuffs, spawning hazards, etc.).

More generally, are there any enemy mechanics or death effects you'd like to see in an alien inspired sci-fi side-scrolling shooter?

We've spent 3 years making a sci-fi game inspired a lot by Kingdom: Two Crowns

(Apologies in advance if this pushes Rule 1 too far)

Echo Zero is a sci-fi 2D base-defense roguelite heavily inspired by Kingdom: Two Crowns.

We've been working on this project for more than three years. And being such big fans of Kingdom, we've taken lots of inspiration and then tried to put some twists on the formula. During development the game changed, evolved, and was rebuilt more times than we can count as we searched for something that felt truly unique. It's been a long journey filled with difficult decisions, countless prototypes, and an enormous amount of work from our small team. (making the co-op mode has been really tough but that's another thing we absolutely love from Kingdom: Two Crowns)

We're grateful to everyone who has supported us along the way, and we're excited to finally start sharing more of what we've been building.
