Hi guys, I'm from Europe and I'm learning Chinese. I've been using WeChat for about a month now and I have around 30 contacts there, mostly people I met through a language-learning app and TikTok.

With around 20 of them, I don't even know if they're male or female, or how old they are. I honestly don't really care about that stuff, so I've never asked. I'm mainly there because I'm learning the language, meeting people and hopefully making some friends.

There are about 4 people I know are female because they do livestreams on TikTok or have uploaded pictures of themselves on the language-learning app.

Then there are another 3 people who I only found out were female later, because they eventually uploaded a selfie on WeChat.

What I find interesting is that almost none of them have a picture of themselves on WeChat. Not as their profile picture and not really in their Moments either.

And it's not like they are unattractive or anything. Some of them are actually pretty good-looking, at least in my opinion.

I'm an average-looking guy myself and I still upload pictures of myself every now and then, so I'm wondering if this is just a cultural difference.

Why do so many Chinese people seem to prefer using pictures of cats, cars, landscapes, anime characters, random pictures, etc. instead of themselves on WeChat?

And what's even more interesting to me is that some of these people are perfectly comfortable showing their face on TikTok through livestreams, but then have no photo of themselves on WeChat.

I also have a Chinese supplier who I've been working with for around 5 years. He's become a very good friend of mine. We normally communicate through WhatsApp, and he sometimes sends me pictures of himself from holidays or other things. He even got married a few months ago and sent me pictures from his wedding.

I also added him on WeChat, and it's exactly the same there: he doesn't use pictures of himself. He mostly posts pictures of his car or his cats. He has one picture where you can see him, but he's photographed from behind.

So I'm curious: Is there a cultural reason for this, or am I just noticing something that isn't actually that common?

Hi guys,

I have a Google account with a YouTube channel that I haven’t used for about 2 years. I recently wanted to move/swap the YouTube channel to another email address.

The problem is that my Google account was still linked to an old phone number that I don’t have anymore. I changed the phone number in my Google account settings to my new number, and the new number is showing there correctly.

However, whenever I try to change the email associated with the YouTube account, or add another email account as an administrator/owner, Google asks me to verify my identity. The only verification option I get is to enter a code that gets sent to my old phone number.

I don’t have access to that old number anymore, and it seems like Google is still using it even though I already changed the number in my account settings.

Does anyone know why this is happening? Does it take a few days for the new phone number to fully register, or is there something else I can do to verify my identity using my new number?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi guys, i started to learn a new language and i found a few good apps to learn it. Sadly 2 of them does'nt come with a dark mode. during the day it's not a problem, but i repeat everything when I'm in bed and it's very annyoing.
So my question is, is there an app or something to make an app dark mode or something in that way?

Hi everyone,

I met a nice girl from Singapore on TikTok about a month ago. She is 24 years old, and we started chatting a bit through TikTok private messages.

She wanted to visit Germany, so I taught her a little German, and in return she taught me some Chinese. It was actually really fun talking with her, and we got along pretty well.

But now she hasn't been online for about a week. Her last TikTok video and livestream were 6 days ago, and since then I haven't seen anything from her.

I'm wondering if there is some kind of school/university break or something happening in Singapore around this time? Maybe she is busy with school, work, or travelling. I'm also not sure if being on TikTok was perhaps some kind of part-time job for her, since she was doing livestreams quite regularly.

I know TikTok works normally in Singapore, unlike mainland China where you need a VPN to access it, so I'm not sure if there is any other reason why she might suddenly disappear from TikTok.

I know it's only been a week, but I actually kind of miss chatting with her and I hope she's doing okay and comes back soon. :(

Does anyone from Singapore have any idea if there is something going on around this time that could explain why she hasn't been online?

I'm on Windows 11 and I'm trying to set "Large icons" (thumbnail view) as the default for all my folders.

What I did:

1. Set a folder's view to Large Icons via the View dropdown in the ribbon
2. Opened File Explorer Options > View tab
3. Clicked "Apply to Folders" and confirmed the prompt

Despite this, folders still open in Details view (or revert back after a while). I've tried restarting File Explorer via Task Manager, but it doesn't fix it.

Has anyone found a reliable fix for this? Is there a registry tweak or a known bug causing the view settings not to persist?

I'm 34M from Switzerland and I've been living pretty much completely alone for around 10 years.

And the strange thing is... I actually like being alone.

My whole lifestyle has basically been built around being alone. I don't have to talk to anyone, I don't have to answer anyone, I don't have to worry about anyone's expectations, and I can spend my time exactly how I want. Being alone gives me peace, and social interaction can drain me incredibly quickly.

But at the same time, I don't think I actually want to be completely alone.

For the last year or so I've been trying to become a bit more social. I started using TikTok and Instagram, I'm learning Chinese, I joined HelloTalk, I created WeChat and I've met a few people online.

And this is where things get really confusing for me.

Sometimes I genuinely want to get closer to someone. I enjoy talking to them and I'm happy when someone shows interest in me.

But when it actually gets more personal, I suddenly want to pull away.

For example, about a week ago someone on TikTok gave me her WhatsApp number because she wanted to keep in contact. I know she sent it to me, but I still haven't even opened the message.

Not because I dislike her.

I just... don't know if I want to open that door.

There are also a few people on HelloTalk who want to add me on WeChat. Part of me really wants to add them. Another part of me doesn't want to have anyone in my life who might expect me to communicate regularly.

And I have the same problem with replying to people.

A lot of people can answer messages within a few hours. For me, it can take around three days just to find the right moment and enough energy to reply.

Sometimes I know exactly what I want to say, but I still don't send it.

It's almost like communicating with someone isn't just "sending a message" for me. It feels like I have to mentally prepare myself for the person and for everything that might come after that message.

I also really dislike dealing with emotions. Human contact seems to amplify emotions for me, which makes everything even more exhausting.

So I keep asking myself:

Do I actually want friends?

Or do I just want the feeling of having someone there without all the expectations and emotional energy that comes with a friendship?

I don't want 20 friends. I don't even think I want a normal social life.

Maybe I'd actually be happy with one or two people I can talk to occasionally, disappear for a few days without anyone getting offended, and then come back and continue the conversation like nothing happened.

But I don't know.

I've been alone for so long that I don't even know anymore whether being alone is genuinely what I want, or whether I've simply become so used to it that having people around now feels uncomfortable.

And that's probably the part that bothers me the most.

Because I can honestly say:

I love being alone.

But sometimes I also feel like:

I don't want to be alone forever.

Both feelings seem completely genuine.

Has anyone else experienced something like this?

How do you figure out whether you genuinely prefer solitude, or whether you've just become so accustomed to being alone that you've forgotten how to have people in your life?

I'm 34 years old, male, from Switzerland. I've been using TikTok here and there for a while, but a few weeks ago I somehow ended up on the "Chinese side" of TikTok because I recently started learning Chinese.

Sometimes I join Chinese livestreams just to practice. I try to understand what people are saying and participate in some very basic small talk. Nothing serious.

A while ago I joined a livestream of a 19-year-old girl. We talked in the chat for maybe 20–30 minutes, just normal small talk. At some point she asked me to follow her.

I told her that unfortunately I couldn't, because I generally don't follow 19-year-old girls. I even joked that I'm old enough to be her father.

She seemed genuinely upset and almost started crying, and then I left the livestream.

Afterwards, however, she followed me and sent me a private message. Apparently she only follows around 20 people, so I guess she doesn't follow everyone who talks to her.

We've only exchanged a few private messages (maybe four times), and now she asked whether I have WeChat or WhatsApp because I'm barely on TikTok and I'm terrible at replying there.

The thing is... I have both.

But I'm not sure if I should give my contact information to a 19-year-old.

It's not that I think she's doing anything wrong. It's more that I feel weird about the 15-year age gap. Even when I chat with someone who's around 24, I sometimes feel like I'm being a creep, even though I'm not trying to do anything romantic or sexual.

In this case, it was literally just a small conversation in a TikTok livestream. But giving her my WeChat would mean potentially becoming actual friends, and suddenly the age difference feels more significant.

I'm also wondering whether she might have some kind of crush on me, although I have absolutely no idea. (I'm probably one of the funniest people on earth and handsome as well, so obviously that's the most likely explanation. 😂)

I don't want to give her my WeChat if it would be inappropriate, but at the same time I don't want to reject her and make her feel bad for no reason.

And just to make it clear: I haven't sent her any money or gifts, and I have no intention of doing that.

Also, whenever I enter a female Chinese livestream, I sometimes feel like I'm the only normal guy there. It seems like 80% of the viewers are either grandpas or really creepy dudes, which is probably another reason why I don't go into these livestreams very often.

So what do you guys think?

Would you give her your WeChat and just treat it as a normal friendship/language exchange, or would you avoid it because of the age difference?

PS: Like I said, I'm 34 and I've only been on social media for a little over half a year. I grew up without the internet, smartphones and especially without social media, so this whole world is still pretty new to me.

I actually only started using social media because I became interested in learning Chinese and wanted to learn more about Chinese language and culture.

So maybe I'm just looking at this differently because of my age and because I'm not used to how people interact on social media.

I just don't want a situation where a 19-year-old somehow becomes obsessed with me or develops feelings for me when I'm not looking for anything like that. I honestly can't imagine hanging out with a 19-year-old girl in real life as a 34-year-old man, so that's why the whole situation feels a bit strange to me.

Maybe I'm just massively overthinking a completely normal friendship.

Ich habe gestern (Sonntagnachmittag) über Tutti eine Monoblock-Klimaanlage gekauft und direkt beim Verkäufer abgeholt. Bezahlt habe ich etwas über 200 CHF.

Beim Abholen hat der Verkäufer das Gerät kurz getestet, es lief problemlos. Auch bei mir zuhause lief sie den ganzen Tag und Abend einwandfrei (mit einer rund dreistündigen Pause am Abend, weil ich nicht zuhause war). Irgendwann in der Nacht ist sie dann komplett ausgefallen – ich bin aufgewacht und das Gerät lief nicht mehr. Das Bedienfeld reagiert noch normal, ich kann sie ein- und ausschalten, aber weder Kompressor noch Ventilator springen an.

Ich werde den Verkäufer heute kontaktieren und ihm die Situation schildern. Ich rechne aber nicht damit, dass er einfach zur Rücknahme bzw. Rückerstattung verpflichtet ist, weil es ein Privatkauf war.

Wie würdet ihr das als Käufer angehen? Und wie würdet ihr reagieren, wenn ihr an der Stelle des Verkäufers wärt? Ist es realistisch, dass ein Gerät, das nach nur ~12 Stunden komplett den Geist aufgibt, schon vorher einen Defekt hatte?

1. Can I give them my WeChat ID and they can find and add me trough it? Or what do they need to find me on WeChat?

2. I uploaded a picture of mine under post. If someone writes a comment on it, can everyone see the comment who is friends with me? And what about the likes? Can everyone see who likes my picture, or can they just see that for example my pictures has 10 likes but they can't see from whom?

3. I uploaded a 10 seconds video as my banner, does videos work as banner or will it be shown just a picture?

4. Can I discover people on WeChat? For example like on IG? Or do i need the wechat ID or phone number or whatever to conect/find people?

Hi guys. I had a 500 GB SSD Sata and bought now a 2TB SSD M.2. I made a fresh windows 11 pro installation on it, with my programs and stuff i need like VLC, winrar, 3 Browsers, CapCut, Canva, Program fro my Audio Interface, Steam, Epic Games, Cubase for Music Production, Adobe Photoshop and Vegas Pro, Spotify, Whatsapp, and some drivers. And all the other standard programs/apps i uninstalled from windows. So my Windows is looking clean right now and only stuff i need on it, which I always work on since many years.
How can i Make a back up or something liket that, that I can always directly install the stuff from the point with which is now? So I don't always have to make a fresh windows 11 installation and install everything from scratch.
Can someone help me? I'm not an expert, Maybe a youtube video?
And I only have a 60 GB USB Stick, so I probably need to buy a bigger one.

hi guys, I'm since 1 year on tiktok and I started to clean my profile a bit. I had around 2200 bookmarks saved and i remove a lot of it and now I have around 900 bookmarks left since like 2 days. But it doesn't show it to me. not on the phone and not on the browser. it loads for a few seconds and then it says :you've previed all posts". is this a bug? do i have to wait another few days until i will see the last 900 bookmakrs?

Hi guys, so I'm not really a gamer, I apologize in advance. I have
a Windows 11 PC with 32 GB Ram, i7-10700F CPU und RTX 3060 GPU. And a
500 GB SSD and a 2TB HDD.

I mostly use the PC for photo or video editing or other daily tasks.. Maybe once every year or two years I play a game.

So I installed a game on my HDD like I always do, and then I
wanted to play it and it lagged a bit and it says that the game is
installed on a HDD, I should install it on a SSD so it would run
smoother with more fps and so on...

Is this true? Weren't big HDD's ment to as installation folder for
games? Or maybe it was like 10 years ago and it changed now..

Like I said my SSD is "only" 500 GB, but I don't need more, and
the games are like over 100 GB already, so it's hard to install it also
on the SSD, and I could play it one at the time and had to delete it
then again, because 2 games would not fit on the SSD. At least not big
games.

So yea, hope someone can say me something about it.

I have a question about copyright. How can I check whether an item is copyrighted before listing it for sale?

Over the past month, I've had three listings removed from eBay due to copyright claims. I sell a wide variety of products, including stickers, plushies, decorations, clothing, and other miscellaneous items.

For example, how can I verify whether the stickers I'm selling are protected by copyright? I obviously don't know every movie, anime, TV series, game, or other franchise, and I don't sell things like Pokémon stickers for example.

I also had a pair of sneakers removed yesterday because of a copyright claim, even though I had been selling the exact same pair for about six months without any issues.

When it comes to clothing, I already make sure to only sell items that don't have any brand names or logos on them. I just want to understand how I can identify potential copyright issues before listing products so I can avoid these problems in the future.
