What’s wrong With Turning It Off?

I really enjoyed Price’s music… also his public support of defending copyright and autonomy of the work of musicians.

I also enjoyed it when he was speaking about the nature of reality.
So much wisdom truly.

Halo peanut butter dog food… has anyone tried this?

Looking at changing out from natural balance(actually vegan) dog food has anyone tried this?

Of course I make homemade vegan dog stews for them all the time, but I try to make sure they have the Kibbys for the macronutrients thoughts?

King Oyster Bacon

Pictured and subsequent photos with a finished BLT on 24 grain… Pictured tofu is what I pan fried for paneer with the leftover mushroom coconut oil after completing the bacon recipe below.

King Oyster Bacon

1 lb king oyster mushrooms
2 tbsp tamari
1 Tbsp neutral oil or avocado oil
1 tbsp maple syrup
1 tsp liquid smoke
½ tsp smoked paprika
¼ tsp garlic powder
good grind black pepper
optional tiny pinch white pepper

Slice them lengthwise quite thin, about 2–3 mm, especially through those beautiful thick stems. The stems will give you the most convincing long bacon strips. One published version specifically uses roughly 2 mm slices and finds that thin slicing, sufficient oil, strong browning and a brief rest after frying are the keys to crispness.

Whisk the marinade together, gently coat the slices, and let them sit about 5–15 minutes. I would not leave them swimming for an hour. We want flavored mushroom, not little soy-sauce mattresses.

Then get a skillet fairly hot, medium-high, add just enough oil to film the bottom, and lay the mushrooms in one uncrowded layer. Leave them alone long enough to develop real brown edges before turning: roughly 5–10 minutes total depending on thickness, while very thin king-oyster slices can brown considerably faster.

A sea lion in Argentina climbed onto a fishing vessel, found a bed, and passed out. The fishermen only realized it when they heard loud snoring.

Richard Feynman on science, doubt and the limits of what we can know

Physicist Richard Feynman reflects on what science can and can't tell us about the world.

Science may never provide final answers about meaning, our place in the universe or where we're going.

For Feynman, that isn't a failure. The point is to keep investigating without deciding beforehand what nature must be. And to remain open to the possibility that "everything is possibly wrong."

Saying goodbye to Philip

Philip is alive! Some people are confused and it’s not allowing me to change the title sorry but I’m new to posting. I was really sad when I wrote this. I adopted Philip and Tony from the Humane Society on the same day. Philip was eight months old and was a shelter return, Tony was six weeks old and more cuteness than one kitten should hold. Flash forward, eight years later… My daughter and her partner separated after he had lived with us for three years. He and Philip bonded very strongly and Philip was the first cat he ever loved so I let Philip go. It was really hard and he’s settling in happily at his new home, which includes two other cats and I’m not kidding when I say this 13 King Charles Cavaliers… No they’re not breeders. They’re just silly people like me with my four Scotties anyway I wanted to share the joy that is Philip he is such a sweetheart, and I miss him terribly.

cherries from my garden picking for winter

Cherry picking from our front yard… I love winter cherry pies and I can’t find tart pie cherries in the freezer section anymore, which is to say I haven’t been able to find them for about 9 to 10 years so six years ago we put in three cherry trees… Mind you I have to “pick them and pit them” one at a time so it’s a little labor intensive, but I’m super excited. I just made three homemade pies with the ones that were left over in the freezer.
