Is this lamp too small?

I’ve been working with Gemini AI to come up with a combination of side table and lamp that complements the Eames lounge chair.

The side table here is a CB2 model, in black marble and natural steel. The table measures 18 x 18” and 15 inches tall.

The lamp is rechargeable, with a polished nickel base and an alabaster shade. The lamp is 12 inches tall, which is a bit smaller than I would normally go for.

But I think it kind of works? We want the chairs to be the main focus of the room. There will be two chairs with a table and lamp for each on the left and right sides, respectively.

In the second image, AI obviously got the proportions wrong. Either the table is far too small or the lamp is much too big.

Some idiot thinks they’re actually getting this.

This was listed on eBay as “sold”. Obviously AI.

They say simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

If AP went back to the OG logo and ditched the date in 39mm, this might be the watch I would sell a kidney for.

In 2002, I was invited to AP in NYC to photograph some watches.

In 2002, I was a staff writer/moderator at timezone.com. I was also a working still life photographer In NYC.

I don’t remember how I got the gig, but I was asked to photograph a bunch of Audemars at their showroom on 57th St. in Manhattan.

My photograpy schtick was “natural light still life”. No lights. No soft boxes. Just window light and reflector cards.

The watches were non-working samples. Most of them feel pretty dated to me now, aside from the RO Grande Complication. I wonder if the other (real versions) have held their value.

Here are a bunch of the images, starting with AP’s incredible safe door…

My first selfie, circa 1982.

I have been obsessed with cameras since 6th grade. This was my first selfie, taken with dad’s Pentax ME Super, which I later jammed one day, after obsessively cranking the winder and pressing the shutter button with no film in the camera.

We got it repaired at the small chain of camera shops I would eventually work in when I was 19-20.

I went on to become a photo assistant in New York City for a decade in my 20s, then a stock/assignment photographer, then a professional photo retoucher. I’ve been taking pictures for myself the entire time.

I am wearing a Guinness t-shirt that my grandfather brought me from a trip to Ireland. I had never heard of Guinness before that. Today, I’m as obsessed with Guinness as I am with photography.

Thanks to the Guinness, I can’t remember whether I’ve posted this picture here before or not.

Ideal height for a drink/end table next to an Eames lounge chair?

Moving to a new place that will have a second living room of sorts. Been contemplating getting two Eames lounges, and one, possibly two, smallish end tables. If we go with one, it will sit between the chairs, and if we go with two, they will live on the left side of the left chair and the right side of the right chair, respectively.

I’ve gone so far as to mock up the room with AI to get a sense of how it will look. (Unfortunately, the rug turns out to be a piece of crap; a flimsy 3mm of flat woven dye sublimated polyester chenille. It’s a shame really because I love the look of it and I can’t find anything that approximates it.)

I tried adding a couple of end tables that I liked into the image, but (free) AI isn’t great at understanding proportion or scale without a ton of prompts, so I gave up trying. But it got me thinking about the table height.

The first time we went into a Herman Miller store to test drive the chair, they had a very low wire base table next to the chair, and my wife and I both kind of chuckled at how low the table was.

I haven’t been able to find official measurements of the armrest, but it would seem like a standard 18 inch to 20 inch table height would be too tall, given how low the chair is. At the same time, the low Herman Miller table seems too low.

If you have a table next to your chair, how high is it? Do you reach upward to set a drink down, or downward? I feel like 15 inches is probably the sweet spot, but finding a 15 inch high side table has been challenging.

I want one that sits low on a wedge stand , like my 55” A8F. I think the legs that attach in the middle are ugly. I don’t like the legs that attach at the ends either. And I don’t want a third-party stand that looks like a computer monitor stand with a pole going up the middle. It seems like as recent models go, the A95K is my only option. Obviously picture quality is my first priority, but I also want it to look nice on my minimalist TV stand. Am I missing any other models with the low wedge shaped centered stand? I really don’t want an LG but boy they look sleek.

Tested a single slab 7” Dunlop mattress. 6” of latex + 1” wool. Loved it.

Google says I will “bottom out” sooner than later on less than 9” of foam. The sales person in the store made no mention of my weight and didn’t inquire about my sleep posture. She was super knowledgeable about everything else. Not sure why she neglected to mention this.

Not really interested in wrestling with assembling 3 layers myself.

Does anyone make a nine or 10 inch single slab of latex in a mattress?

I routinely wait up to five seconds for settings to load on IG. On t-hreads it’s instant. Is there something I can tweak or cache I should flush? I just want quick access to my saved posts.

Moving June 1. Hoping not to have to wade through 5 mediocre experiments to find *the one*. I went to middle/high school in the area in the 1980s and it was slim pickings back then.

Tested a 7” flipable Dunlop latex mattress in person at Portland Mattress Makers in Maine. Loved it. A king with box base will run us almost $5K.

A 10” flippable Saatva latex Zenhaven (which latex?) in king is $3799. Doesn’t seem to come with the box base. Haven’t tried it.

$1000 savings is nothing to sneeze at. Mattresses from Latex for Less or Sleep on Latex offer even more savings.

I probably already know the answer, but are 100% latex mattresses similar enough across brands to take a shot at a cheaper one without trying it?

Sorry for the noob question.

Great steaks, amazing sides, fabulous dessert.

We know a tiny bit about wine. Just enough to be excited to see something we recognized and really liked, Chateau Lassegue. We’ve had the 2021 and/or the 2022. Both were at the upper end of low priced. Somewhere around $85 in a store if I recall.

Mooo had a 2014 for $230. We know better than to look at prices online while at the restaurant. That’s just depressing. But we were celebrating, and we mistakenly thought 2014 must have been some sort of special harvest, so we splurged.

Just for kicks, I thought I’d look it up today. $33/bottle in bulk (30) from Saratoga. Mooo probably paid even less. I shouldn’t have looked lol.

That‘s a 600% markup on an upper low/lower mid tier wine. Absolutely insane.

This is a photo that was purportedly posted on the suspected White House Correspondent’s Dinner shooter’s now deleted IG.

Why are his pants 1/3 wider than him on one side?

The stool, if that’s what it is, looks odd. The door seems oddly small.

The gray fabric on the wall looks odd. Is it a pair of shorts? A tiny curtain?

What drink is he even holding?

The bike behind the guy has a weird piece of metal jutting out of the handle.

And why would a supposedly liberal educator be wearing an IDF t-shirt?
