How do I get my partner to engage in conversation?

dx

The way I prefer to communicate: I say something (without taking up too much time), my GF thinks about it and responds (with a reasonable response length), I consider her response, and respond back. No one dominates the conversation. Each person listens to what the other said, and responds to it.

The way my ADHD GF prefers to communicate: talk about whatever is on her mind for 20-30 mins, while I insert monosyllabic responses like "uh huh", "ok".

When I try to interrupt her, and take part in the conversation by engaging in whatever topic she is interested in, she still doesn't respond to what I said - once i finish speaking, she will continue going on about whatever she was talking about as if i hadn't said anything.

She is on medication, had received counseling, is aware her communication style is atypical as others have called her out on it. She tries to change, but reverts back to the style that's natural to her.

I have been able to tolerate this because we don't live together/spend much extended time together, so in small doses it's tolerable.

Not sure I could really do this communication style all the time if we lived together.

Is there anything I can do to help her/us?

Water/nature/beach focused day/multi day trips

Plan to spend a few days in Vancouver just chilling out. Will also go up to whistler to mountain bike.

What i'd also like to do is do a day/multi day trip which involves beaches/aquatic wildlife/swimming/time on water in a boat. Also, maybe coastal hiking.

Any suggestions? I was thinking of kayaking at deep cove, but want some more wilderness than that (and i'm not sure how much my legs will enjoy sitting in a kayak for multiple hours).

Tofino seems the obvious choice, but i'm not sure I'm willing to pay $400/day for a run down motel.

Bus from Vancouver and MTB Bike Rental?

If I want to go biking at whistler for a few days (mostly xc biking, maybe ride lord of the squirrels), would there be any issue taking a bus from Vancouver to whistler, renting a mountain bike in whistler and then getting around by bike/walking?

I could drive, but don't really feel like it.

cross country mountain biking

I know whistler is famous for the downhill biking at the park, but are there many xc biking trails in the area if i like to climb?

Morraine lake shuttle question

I'd like to hike sentinel pass. Plan to park in LL and take the parks Canada shuttle from LL.

The parks website says the following (see quote below).

"Your Parks Canada shuttle reservation includes all required transportation within the Lake Louise area. This covers:

  • Your initial departure from the Lake Louise Park and Ride to either Lake Louise or Moraine Lake (must match the lake selected on your reservation)
  • Unlimited use of the Lake Connector Shuttle to travel between Lake Louise and Moraine Lake
  • Your return trip from either lake back to the Park and Ride
  • Free parking at the Park and Ride"

So there are tickets on the website that list 'morraine lake' or 'lake louise' on the activity column.

I think I just need a morraine lake ticket for the time I want to depart LL to get to morraine lake and that's it? The plan would be to then take the last bus back to LL.

I don't understand why some tickets have 'lake louise' listed under activity when the website says, "Your initial departure from the Lake Louise Park and Ride to either Lake Louise or Moraine Lake (must match the lake selected on your reservation)"

<--- wouldn't all of the initial departures be to morraine lake? how would the initial departure be from morraine lake to lake louise (since the visitor would always be at lake louise initially and the shuttle just runs between LL and morraine)?

Any other cities with something similar to Sydney's Bondi to Coogee walk?

I really like Sydney's bondi to coogee walk - walking along the cliffs from one amazing beach to another amazing beach, passing cool sites like an old cemetery and outdoor pools, being able to stop in at cafes and restaurants.

Loved the whole thing.

Does any other city have something like this?

Considering Queen Elizabeth Alaska (never cruised before)

Hi,

I'm considering the cruise below, and I have never cruised before. I would be going alone, and am in my 40s.

11 nights - Alaska - August 2026

What I want:

Just chill time at sea to view pretty scenery and otherwise read, work on my laptop, and exercise.

Time on land to hike or mountain bike at the stops, or maybe take a smaller boat out. I don't want to go shopping on land, or just sit on a bus or whatever - I want to do a 10 km hike.

What I don't care about:

-Drinks

-On board entertainment

-socializing

What I do care about:

-hygiene/cleanliness

-Food

-no party people

-not a ton of kids

What causes me concern:

The bad reviews here (especially the food).

Searching for Alaska Cruise (first time)

Hi,

I've never cruised before, but would like to take a 7-15 day Alaska cruise in the last two week of August.

How do I search for this?

Would prefer it depart Vancouver, but also open to Seattle or potentially other ports.

I am trying to use vacationstogo.com, but am somewhat confused by the results....

Do travel agents still exist which help with cruises?!

*Do most Alaska cruises just end in Alaska, and then you fly back (if this is all that's available with short notice I might be fine with this, but would prefer to depart and return to Vancouver)?

*Are these cruise search engine results assuming couples, so as someone traveling alone the prices they're giving me aren't really reflective of reality?

*I'd want it to hit the highlights which seem to be inside straight, skagway, juneau, glacier bay.

*looking for a chill atmosphere with time to get off the ship and do some hikes.

*do not want cheap party people atmosphere

Best Swimming Beaches near Tokyo or Kyoto

I'd like to go to Kyoto+Tokyo+beaches last two weeks of August.

Where are the best beaches accessible on transit within a day of Kyoto or Tokyo?

Plan would be to stay in a beach area for a few days, do city stuff in Toko/Kyoto, then stay in another beach area for a few days.

I want to go swimming in the ocean, not just lay on the beach.

This is all assuming the recent, tragic, earth quake hasn't disrupted things too much.

I know Japan is hot during august, but this is my availability.

Was considering Hokaido, but watching youtube videos about it, it just doesn't seem too interesting...

How much are high mileage rav4's selling for (v6)?

I have a v6 rav4 with 275k km on it. Still runs well. Only issue is a little bit of body rust is starting to develop.

I have heard crazy figures for high mile ravs selling and some people are telling me I could get 20 k (canadian) for mine.

Any truth to this?

Menorca vs Sicily - how similar?

How does sicily compare to menorca?

I've been to menorca and really enjoyed it - the beaches were great, the main town looked like a fiary tale, and driving around the island was nice. There were ancient ruins to stop at and quaint farms. Enough to do when you're tired of the beach, but not overly busy.

How does sicily compare? A lot of people love sicily, but i have never been.

Hikes with a gradual descent

Can anyone recommend hikes with a gradual descent?

Currently have a knee issue, so can't go down anything too steep/technical.

Hikes my knee has tolerated/think it could tolerate: second galatea lake (did it recently), upper k lake loop, carthew anderson.

Can anyone add to this list of hikes with a gradual descent or more rolling/flat?

Some of my favorites are tent ridge and smutwood pass, but can't do those currently.
