How can the UK have health staff shortages while newly qualified staff struggle to get NHS jobs?

The NHS is often described as having a serious shortage of doctors and nurses with staffing gaps always highlighted.

Strangely I keep seeing newly qualified healthcare dtaff saying they’re struggling to secure NHS roles after graduating — due to internal-only adverts, experience requirements, or recruitment freezes at trust

Why does this exist?

Companies need to stop behaving as though 35k is a big salary

Salaries havent really adjusted to the crazy inflation we've seen over the last 5 years. There are skilled office jobs that need a degree going for basically £5k above full time minimum wage which just seems nuts. Offering free coffee and 3% pension (legal requirement) is not good enough

What was the moment you realised your local high street had died?

For me it came this week in fact. Went to buy some batteries and donate old clothes at same time and realised even the poundland and barnados had shut. We literally have vape shops and barbers left

How have salaries gone so low?

Recently accepted a job that pays nearly £7000,- less than my previous job.

It's shocking how insane the job market is, but I've also noticed that a lot of experienced jobs pay far below the average UK salary of £38K, which is insane.

I read that UK salaries have increased but I honestly don't see it in practice. What the heck is going on?

What is the worst job offer you have ever had?

Once offered free car parking and free coffee. Sounded great on paper. Salary was lower than minimum wage and had to work 12 hour shifts 4 days a week.

What is yours?
