A year ago I moved to China. A big reason was because I really struggled to make a survivable wage in my own country, however, here I am upper middle class.

However, my mum has visited me 3 times in the past year. This makes me feel really guilty because I feel responsible for her massive carbon emissions (our country is far away.)

I have asked her if she would mind sticking to once a year but for a longer time because I am concerned about the environment, but she just ignored that and answered another question in my message.

I feel like I need to go back, but my life is insanely better here.

Hello, does anyone know how I can find a genuine UVB light in China that can be delivered? It is literally an invisible product, this is impossible 😭😭😭😭😭.

Ok I’m being *slightly* hyperbolic.

A couple of years ago in Indonesia I was at a restaurant with my friend when the waiter brought out a dish called “otak-otak” (literally: brains). I tentatively asked my friend which animal the brains came from. She laughed at me.

Now I’m walking down the streets in China. I just saw a street peddler selling “豆腐脑。” (literally:tofu brain)

My current employer cancelled my work permit 4 days early because my new employer requested it. However, my current job still wants me to finish my contract and work the last 4 days.

I feel like it is illegal and have told them I won’t do it. They are obviously very mad with me.

They said I could just do it on a voluntary basis and not be paid. I feel like this doesn’t fully mitigate the risks.

What should I do?

Sorry I’m really terrible at understanding economics. My high-school economics teacher used to tell me he wanted to hit me and throw stuff at me LMAO.

How would the meat industry be different if they couldn’t sell things like hog fur and blood and intestines and whatnot?

Is it even possible to predict the change in the number of farm animals raised?

I’ve been vegan (?) since mid-April, but sometimes I really struggle to feel motivated to avoid hyper-specific additives that are sourced from animal biproducts. Namely stearic acid and l-cysteine.

In my mind I think “well nobody kills a pig FOR stearic acid or l-cysteine, it would just go to waste otherwise,” so I often say “well fuck it” and go and buy a McDonald’s pineapple pie or go to get a massage despite forgetting to bring my own oil.

How can I get more motivation? Does this even matter?
