Polar Bear Eats Cub

Source: IG @audundahl

Because these bears are so dominant, they see everything with a heartbeat as a potential meal. This includes humans and the cubs of other bears. In this case, the latter bore the brunt of this bear's overbearing hunger.

This type of infanticide differs from that of other predators like lions, who are known to kill the cubs of rival males after taking over a pride to make the females more accepting of their husbandly advances. With bears, more specifically polar bears, the primary goal is to feed, and the mother re-entering estrus can be a beneficial side effect of losing her cubs.

Bull Moose Encounter

@allagash.antlers on IG “The Maine Moose Guy” encounters a bull moose.

By showing the whites of its eyes, the moose is giving a warning that it is agitated/threatened and may attack. The best advice is to slowly back up while separating yourself with a solid object, such as a tree or boulder.
