what are you supposed to do with your hands in an uber
can’t look at my phone or anything bc i get motion sick but then i just have no clue what to do with myself.
i feel like hands folded in my lap makes me seem so pretentious and i’m like some asshole whose judging the uber driver but hands by your side in the car is so awkward. and like you can’t hold the little bar thing because then it seems like you think they’re a bad driver.
what is the protocol here 😔 i feel like my uber reputation is in shambles bc im just being so odd in there
He can't keep getting away with it
If this is you on the BQE then fuck you
you’re the reason why we can have nice things

hit by BAT!
No, not a baseball bat.
Last night at 8 o'clock I was riding on the South County Trailway / Old Putnam Greenway and had just crossed back into Van Cortlandt Park when I got struck in the face by a live bat – yes, seriously, the flying mammal. It smacked me squarely on my mouth, which also happened to be open at that moment... (I think I'll survive, so it's ok to laugh – lesson learned: stop talking to myself while riding)
Before you ask: yes, I rinsed my mouth out with water immediately, again with alcohol ASAP, washed my face thoroughly, and headed for the ER to start my rabies shots. Saw an excellent physician assistant at Columbia Presbyterian, so I think I'll be fine, and this is mostly just a silly story at this point (My family is having a hoot with bat-related jokes right now)
I often see plenty of bats flying at dusk around the parks, and one or two will always swoop in close to me. I think they're just curious, because they always change course and fly away (probably when they realize I'm not a tasty bug) – up until last night. Has anyone else here had this happen before? And is there a way to repel these curious bats before they get so close?
Summer Streets Chaos UES August 1, 2026
We did our first summer streets by bike super early getting onto the course at 7 AM and we started Union Sq went south to the Brooklyn Bridge at the end and then circled back thinking that we would go all the way up north to the end and come back down
After 79th St it went to complete and utter chaos and hell
We even pulled over to ask the cops who said they know nothing -polite but no idea-and then we notified three course officials and we asked if they had radios and all of them said no, and we informed them that it’s really really dangerous because we were informed to stay on the left side of Park Avenue even though everything heading north on Park was in the right side coming from all the way downtown and then we all of a sudden had a race coming at us with people on feet running and then southbound cyclist coming head on, and it was an absolute nightmare
Did anyone else have this issue?
Other than a few cocky runners that were not nice at all despite them running 5 to 10 people wide- i’ll give credit to one group that did self correct-it was pretty well organized south of 79th St. with signs that said cyclists keep left and pedestrians keep right despite two cops standing as wide as they possibly could in the middle of Union Square by Mount Sinai
I don’t know if I would do this again to be honest and if I could recommend it to people because this was absolute chaos past 79th St.
We only went up to 88th St. and then turned around because we simply didn’t feel safe
And what was odd is that runners were yelling at us that course officials told them to stay left which makes no sense
AnyWho, I’m native New Yorker and not a tourist but this was so dangerous with no rhyme or reason with people coming straight at you on a bike with both cyclist coming southbound as you’re trying to go north and runners in some random race
I’m a professional cuddler in NYC. AMA.
ETA: I’m in sessions until 4pm (EST). Will reply to more comments then! Thanks for all the great questions and for engaging kindly ♥️
I left my “real” job a few months ago to do this full-time. Sometimes I can’t believe I’m making a living doing this and I feel very fortunate. Open to any questions!
And yes, to answer what will inevitably be the most asked question, ALL SESSIONS are strictly platonic (no exceptions).
Altercation at the farmer's market
Why did a fight break out at the pie table at the farmer's market this morning??
"Juicy" Clusters Are Great
I actually do not like the regular Nerds Gummy Clusters, but I really like these. The gummy part on these is noticeably softer and sweeter than on the regular ones.
I will especially give a shout out to the fact that these are strawberry, which I think is a great candy flavor - I am a big fan of Strawberry Jolly Ranchers, but this strawberry candy is strong competition.
Born & raised NYer. I think many of us can agree: it’s time to leave.
With the economy in the trash and the amount of migration from other states there’s barely any work here. I always wanted to move to a different state anyways but it was just a thought. It’s now looking like a reality and many other nyers I’ve spoken too are speaking about moving also. Coincidence? I think not!
Edit: this is literally just a haha discussion based on a reality for many, or others feeling similar . I don’t condone hate so keep that shit cute. Giggle, converse idc but I will report hateful comments.
Also it’s come to my attention ALOT of ya are taking me super serious comments) This was just a thought lmao. I didn’t ask for advice (I don’t mind it though i think it’s helpful for everyone) and I’m not moving any time soon lol. Take a deep breath and calm down. Have a giggle or 6. This discussion thread is really not that serious.
A breakdown of the social order
This happens on my block about once a week. Look, I get that there are not a lot of restroom options for the professional drivers of the city. I would definitely be in support of improving that situation if a reasonable solution was proposed. That being said, there are street garbage cans within one block of this spot in three different directions. The person that did this decided that some other person should be responsible for disposing of his (I assume) bodily waste. That person is in breach of the social contract and doesn’t deserve to reap the benefits of living in a civilized society. They should be cast out into the wild where they belong. This is not acceptable behavior and we cannot continue to condone it by allowing it to happen. Interested to hear other peoples thoughts on this recurring problem.
What to show people in NYC when they don’t like cities?
Hi guys, have lived in the nyc now for a few years and my family hasn’t been able to come visit yet. I am from a small town in the South and my family are very overwhelmed by cities. My parents may visit sometime this year and I am really at a loss for what to show them / where to take them. My mom wants to mostly stay around the UWS because she “wants to see what my real life is like”. My only idea for what to show them is the park, probably really early before it is crowded. Do you have any ideas / recommendations?
Car abandoned in middle of Bushwick Ave
Why would someone just abandon their car in middle of a very a busy street.. Everyone has to drive into gas station or oncoming traffic to get around.
Anyone know if this was affiliated with a crime of some sort, baffles me
A ton of toilet paper in the water at Coney Island yesterday
Did anyone else see this? It started rolling in around 4:30pm. I found out there was a bad sewage spill up river after searching online. The city closed some of the beaches in Queens and also one beach from further east but left Coney Island open for people to romp in sh*tty water. From what I could see it spanned several jetties.
The water quality at the NYC beaches is only tested weekly and was last tested Monday or Tuesday, giving no indication of how much fecal matter is in the water on the 4th of July. You would think a sewage spill up river would prompt more testing and they would close the beach with visible toilet paper !!!
I informed the life guard who seemed clueless and made a 311 complaint.
