Capturing Memories

Capturing Memories

I see so many amazing pictures of dogs here. I'm not really into photography, but I want to document some memories. How are you photographing your dog, like is your camera always ready? By the time I get set up, the moment I wanted to capture is gone. How do you do it?

Exhaustion Walking

They say that a 10 sniffing walk is as exhausting as a 30 minute walk. Who is "they"? Nothing exhausts my rescue, and I can't tell the difference between the two.

The Internet has me feeling defeated

I raised a bunch of dogs with good judgement: poodles, German shepherds, and border collies. They all turned out great without the Internet. Now I'm raising my first since the Internet matured. Everything you need to raise a dog is available. The problem is that I am finding myself at odds with the results. For example, I've been taking my 6mo to an off leash park for exercise and socialization. It turns out that this is ill advised until 12 to 18 months. One reason is that before 12 months, a bad experience could make them fearful for life. I don't have a problem with the advice, it's just frustrating to step back from some of the things I was looking forward to.

Dog Park Etiquette: Peeing and Pooping

I just started using a dog park. It's a couple blocks away so we get our peeing and pooing out of the way on the walk there. I just assumed others did this too. Last night a couple of dogs peed and poo'ed in the dog park. Is this normal or is there an unwritten rule against this? Note: It rarely rains, so there is nothing to flush any residue away.

Roaches

Before I moved to San Jose, I never encountered cockroaches free ranging the streets at night. I recently rescued a dog. For our 10pm potty break, we head over to a park with some raised granite benches. They're about 4" off the ground. The cockroaches come and go from under the benches, and my dog loves chasing them. I used to think they were ick. Now they're part of a nightly ritual.

What's a good sleep schedule for a 6 month old?

My dog has no problem sleeping through the night. Unfortunately, I fight with her most of the day. She is an aggressive biter. I was reading that she may be over tired, and that I should have her sleep more. What's a good daytime schedule for 8 to 10 hours, and can I break it up to take her outside? I'm guessing I need to use her kennel, but she's so amped all the time, so I don't want it to seem like punishment.

Upper Midwest

I've always wanted to spend time in the upper Midwest to experience the cultures there. Where I grew up we mostly had German and Italian. Though most were represented, those had the most regional impact.

In the upper Midwest, German, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Finnish, Polish, Czech, and Irish are supposed to have established, concentrated regional impact.

I'm seriously considering van life and exploring this region for a few summers when I retire.

My only exposure is Fargo and Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter. What can you add?

Trans pronouns

I talk to a diverse population on the phone for my job. I use they instead of he/she and partner instead of husband/wife.

My question, Is it acceptable to default to they in public where visual cues are available?

Separation Anxiety

I rescued a pitbull 3 days ago. She has been through it in her 6 short months. She was in foster care due to the severity of her condition. The foster indicated that she has no separation anxiety: "Settles Calmly when Alone. No Vocalization or Destruction."

Last night I left her alone for the first time. When I returned, she was howling and tore apart her collar that was on a table.

Today I started some SA basics. I get ready like I'm going out, head to the door, grab my keys, and open the door a crack. Then I back down and ignored her for two minutes. I got that online.

Additionally, I'm sitting in the bathroom with the door closed, my apartment has an open plan, so this is the only way to separate us. For the first 40 minutes she would paw and whine at the door with an occasional bark. For the last 30 minutes she seems to have settled.

Hopefully on Wednesday, I will be leaving the apartment.

Does this seem like a good start? What have you tried? I'm off this week for bonding, but I'm worried about going back to work next week. I take a 2 hour lunch, so she'll only be alone for 4-5 hours twice a day.

Which free music app?

I want to add a free music app. It's for my pupper when I go back to work. I need something that will stream for about four hours without cutting out. What would you use?

I've noticed a drop off in autoplay recommendations?

I've been away for a couple of weeks watching Star Trek Voyager on Pluto. I wanted to binge some movies today on Tubi, but after one movie ends the autoplay is always for something in my continue watching queue. Tubi autoplay used to be a great way to discover content. Has anyone else noticed this drop off?
