Is calling a mental health hotline actually helpful?

I was talking with a coworker in the break room yesterday and he casually mentioned calling a crisis line once, which kinda stuck in my head all day. I’ve had anxiety/depression stuff on and off since college, and lately it’s been ramping up again - not like “immediate danger” level, but enough that I’m zoning out at work and drinking more than I should after.

I keep seeing mentions of different services when I google at 2am, like this generic “Mental Health Hotline” type thing that says it’s 24/7 and confidential, helps with substance use and all that. Part of me is like, that sounds great, and another part is like, idk, is it just going to be some bored person reading a script? Maybe I’m overthinking this.

If you’ve ever actually called something like that, what was the vibe? Did it feel awkward? Did they give you real next steps or just talk for a bit? Would you recommend it for someone who isn’t in full crisis but knows they’re kinda sliding in that direction?

Halfway convinced palm beach is just a sydney suburb now

Driving down the highway yesterday and honestly felt like I was losing my mind. Every single original beach shack from burleigh down to tugun is basically covered in temporary fencing, getting knocked down for identical grey concrete duplexes

Went to an open home just out of curiosity (im clearly a masochist) and the selling agent literally ignored anyone in boardies. he just hovered around this one couple wearing literal blazers who had flown up from melbourne for the morning

I ended up reading some market analysis from property buyers later that night while sulking on the couch, and apparently a huge chunk of premium coastal property here just trades entirely off-market to interstate investors now. They just look at our listings, think its dirt cheap compared to bondi, and drop 150k over the asking price sight unseen

its just genuinely depressing tbh. How is anyone on a normal local hospitality or retail wage supposed to compete with that kind of equity? Basically just accepting my fate that ill end up pushed all the way out past pimpama at this rate just to afford a patch of grass

Is software like this even worth it for serving companies?

I run a tiny process serving outfit in the UK (4 servers, mostly civil stuff), and the admin side is eating us alive. Half my day is scanning N1s, chase letters, statements of service, then retyping the same junk into our case tracker and invoices.

It really hit me last week when a client’s secretary joked that I “must love paperwork more than serving” while handing me a stack of badly photocopied docs at 4:45pm. Spent the whole evening keying it in and started googling ways to automate some of this.

I keep seeing people talk about intelligent document processing and similar AI tools that read PDFs/emails and spit the data into your system. Sounds great on paper, but maybe I’m looking at this the wrong way and it’s more for big banks and not small firms like us.

Has anyone here actually tried anything like that for affidavits/returns, invoices, KYC, etc? Did it save real time or was it just more crap to manage? Any specific tools or setups you’d recommend, or is it smarter to just hire a part-time admin instead?

Is AI uncropping/expanding actually usable for client work in 2026?

I was exporting socials for a client yesterday and the classic problem hit again: they want the same key visual in like 5 different aspect ratios, but the original photo is tight as hell. No room to crop without chopping off something important.

So I went down a late-night rabbit… well, path, looking at AI outpainting/uncropping tools. Some of them look wild. One of the sites I saw was something like imglarger uncrop that claims it can extend backgrounds, change aspect ratio, even upscale to 8K without wrecking the image.

My question: are any of you actually using this kind of AI uncrop/expand stuff in real client workflows? Is it “good enough” for social ads, web banners, etc., or is it still more of a fun toy and you end up repainting/fixing in Photoshop anyway? Maybe I’m looking at this the wrong way and should just be planning crops smarter from the start.

Curious what’s worked for you, what tools you like, and where it completely breaks (weird hands, warped typography, brand-safe issues, etc.).

need a room asap kinda

moving to nashville soon for work and still hunting for a place to land. budget around 700-900, own room is a must, shared house is fine as long as people are chill and not messy.

prefer something not crazy far from downtown or midtown area. quiet enough for sleeping after late shifts would be perfect.

any leads or someone needing a roommate??

First time going full PoE for home security - setup details and lessons

Upgraded home security after a neighbor had a break in, avoided wireless this time and went poe for reliability. Browsed cctvcameraworlds security camera systems page and grabbed a 4 camera 4k bullet kit for around $725. Spent a couple evenings running cables around the house and garage. Covers the main entrances driveway and backyard well enough. Picture quality is good day and night and the local storage with no fees was a big plus, remote app is simple.

Installation wasn't perfect i had to redo one run but learned a lot. Been using it daily for a month and the alerts for motion at night are actually helpful. Anyone else diy a wired system recently? tips on cable management or hiding wires on brick/siding would help a ton.

inherited a beach house on Hilton Head and I'm drowning

my aunt passed away a few months ago and left me her place on Hilton Head. at first I thought wow free beach house. but it's turned into a nightmare. needs everything. new roof, new AC, new windows, new kitchen. basically a full gut job. I live in Atlanta and I can't afford to fix this place up. I've been paying property taxes and insurance on it and it's killing me.

I've been looking into selling .

has anyone here sold a property on Hilton Head that needed work? how did it go?

Rewatching for the first time in years - anyone else notice the show gets better once you already know where everything's going?

Started a full rewatch recently, first time since it originally aired, and it's hitting completely differently now. First time around, some of the weirder stuff felt like the show going off the rails a bit. On rewatch, knowing where it's all headed, it plays more like everything was building toward something instead of just random escalation

Curious if this tracks for other people who've rewatched after a long gap - did specific episodes or arcs land differently for you the second time around?

best booking software for hotels in australia?

planning a trip around australia next month and trying to sort out accommodation without spending hours comparing sites. i want something straightforward that shows clear prices, good availability, and doesn’t have too many hidden fees.

i came across bnb booking while looking for holiday homes and apartments and it seems pretty simple to use. has anyone found any other good booking platforms or software that work well for australia trips? looking for recommendations that actually make the process easier.

started with earrings now i'm into bracelets too

i've been wearing earrings for years. it's been my thing. but lately i've been wanting to add something else. , just a bracelet or something simple.

picked up a stainless steel bracelet a while back. clean and simple. doesn't compete with the earrings, just adds to the look.

kind of feels like a natural next step. anyone else start with one thing and end up adding more?

My realtor says drop the price again to sell it

My home has been on the market for 4 months now. In the beginning, my realtor was optimistic. Showings, open houses, confident calls. But then came the first buyer whose financing fell through. Next was the second buyer who demanded too much work be done. Since then there’s been only quiet…

Now every time my phone rings, I don't want to check it. Just more showings, more staging, more cleaning, and more waiting. My realtor now tells me we need to drop the price another $10,000

I'm irritated. I started looking for alternatives. Found Ready Door Homes and they promise a cash sale without any showings, repairs, or strangers walking through my house. I can just leave and be done

Is this too good to be true? If my realtor is telling me to lower the price, will a cash buyer offer even less? Or could they actually offer more since they don't have realtor fees and other costs? I honestly don't know anymore

I've been burned so many times by this process. I'm scared of making another mistake. Has anyone actually sold to a cash buyer after a bad realtor experience?

Placing specialty auto liability for small auto transport fleets lately

I have been running into a wall trying to place affordable commercial auto liability and cargo for a few small car hauling clients who keep getting hit with huge renewal increases despite low loss runs.

Someone in my network suggested checking out Grey Cardinal insurance for some of these trickier transportation risks because they seem to have access to better programs for non standard commercial auto.

Has anyone here worked with them on the wholesale or brokerage side? Interested to know how flexible their underwriting is and whether their turnarounds on COIs are reasonable.

ADAS started acting up after some front end work

I’ve got a 2020 BMW 3 Series that I’ve been slowly modifying. Recently had a new front lip and a light bumper respray done after a small scrape.

Ever since then the lane keep assist and adaptive cruise have been unreliable. Sometimes they work fine, other times they just switch off and throw warnings for no clear reason.

I already cleaned the sensors and checked the basic connections. Still the same.

I’ve got a booking with ADAS Line next week to get everything recalibrated properly. Just wondering if this is a common headache after even small front end changes, or if the sensors are more sensitive than I thought on these cars. Does a full calibration usually sort it after bodywork, or do people often end up needing further adjustments?

Finally used crypto on a grocery run without converting first.

Needed to restock the house and had some USDC sitting around after a payment. I chose a grocery gift card option from Aceb rather than mailing it to an exchange and waiting.

I placed my order the same day because the code arrived so quickly. Using it for something so simple seemed surprisingly regular. It's really strange that everything starts to be done without even needing real money on hand, so I have only one question, is this our future??

Does life in Australia feel surprisingly monotonous to anyone else, or am I just not settling in right?

Hey guys, need a bit of a reality check or maybe just a space to vent. I’m originally from London, but before this, I spent a few years living in Spain and then Southeast Asia. I loved the energy in those places - spontaneity, cheap street food, easy public transit, and just being able to step outside and have something interesting happening around you. About six months ago, I made the move to Australia. The honeymoon phase was great: sunshine, coastal walks, and that initial high of being somewhere new. Even shipped over all my personal stuff and set up a proper long-term home here.

Now that the dust has settled and normal routine has kicked in, I’m honestly finding it pretty uninspiring. Everything here requires driving forever just to do basic stuff. If I want to grab casual drinks or hit a cozy cafe, prices are so absurdly high that I end up second-guessing every tiny purchase. Back in Europe or Asia, going out for a quick bite after work was a casual weekday habit; here, it feels like a major financial decision that needs to be budgeted weeks in advance. As a result, my life has basically turned into: work, cook at home, watch Netflix, repeat. Even making friends is tough because everyone around me seems exhausted from work and constantly stressed about rent or mortgage payments, so nobody really has the bandwidth to hang out. Don't get me wrong, it’s clean, safe, and beautiful. But standard of living aside, life just feels super quiet and repetitive. Has anyone else who moved here after living in more walk-able or vibrant places felt this way? Or did it eventually click for you?

building inspection saved me from buying a 30k nightmare

was looking at a house in melbourne. seemed perfect. good price, good location. was ready to put in an offer. then i decided to get a building inspection (against the agents advice btw).

the inspection came back with structural issues, termite damage, and electrical problems. total repairs estimated at 30k. the report had photos of things i would have never noticed - roof rot, cracking in the slab, dodgy wiring. seller was trying to hide it all.

i walked away. cost me 500 for the inspection but saved me 30k and months of stress.

think skipping a building inspection is one of the most expensive ways to try and save money. especially in this market where sellers are offloading all sorts of problems.

anyone else had an inspection save them from a money pit. what did it find.

dating in my 40s after divorce feels overwhelming

my marriage ended four years ago after twelve years together and i’ve been single ever since. i threw myself into work and my own life but now that i’m ready to date again it feels completely different from when i was younger. online dating has been discouraging and i often feel like i don’t even know how to show up as myself anymore.

i’ve been thinking about reaching out to a matchmaker to see if professional help might make this process feel less impossible. how did you rebuild your confidence when starting to date again after a long relationship? and what helped you feel like you were actually ready instead of just going through the motions?

Is it normal to cry during your first pointe shoe fitting or is my fitter just bad?

I had my very first pointe shoe fitting yesterday, and it was honestly so stressful. My feet are kind of wide and compressed, and almost every shoe the fitter brought out felt like it was crushing my toes. I felt so much pressure to just pick a pair, and I ended up getting so overwhelmed that I actually started crying in the middle of the store. It was so embarrassing.

The fitter ended up putting me in a pair of Energetiks (I think the model is Stella?) and they felt the most tolerable, but now that I am home, I am terrified they are actually too tight. Is a first fitting always this painful and emotional, or did I just have a bad experience? How are they actually supposed to feel when you are just standing in them?

Netplan is completely ignoring my ipv6 config and my scripts are dying

im losing my mind trying to figure out how netplan actually works in 24.04. Im running a bunch of automated seo scraping scripts for a client campaign right now and they specifically need to route through an ipv6 proxy pool to avoid getting flagged

My local isp is absolute garbage and keeps acting weird with the dual stack connection. I was looking at a helpful guide just trying to wrap my head around the underlying protocol routing to see if it was my physical router dropping the ball, but im pretty sure it's just my ubuntu config failing at this point

I put the static ipv6 addresses in my /etc/netplan/ yaml file and ran sudo netplan apply, but when I run ip a it only shows my link-local address. No global ipv6 at all. And it gives me literally zero syntax errors in the terminal

does netplan just silently ignore the config if the gateway drops the prefix delegation for a second? or did I mess up the spacing in the yaml? Pls help before I just disable ipv6 entirely and take the api rate limits

Looking for places to stay in Australia

We’re planning a family trip to Australia in October this year (around the 10th to the 25th). Two adults and two kids (8 and 11). Want somewhere comfortable but not crazy expensive, preferably with a bit of space and a kitchen so we’re not eating out every meal.

Looking mainly at Sydney for the first week and then maybe the Gold Coast or somewhere nearby for the second half. Been searching for apartments or holiday houses that actually work for a family.

Checked BNB Booking and found a few places around $280–350 a night that look decent with two bedrooms and a small living area.

Anyone done a similar family trip recently? Did you find it better to book apartments or stick with hotels that have family rooms? Just trying to keep the accommodation side reasonable.
