what type of frame is best for thick lenses?

hello, all! i'm posting on here to get some advice. i've had this pair for around 5 years now and it's now time to change and see if my prescription has changed!

i sadly cannot tell you what my prescription is because i don't remember... but before this pair, i usually went for plastic frames that were thicker (but not big) and hid a little how big my lenses were. i really love this pair, apart from the fact that my lenses rub against my cheek and as someone with oily skin, the bottom of the bulging lenses gets oily a lot of time during the day and causes some irritation.

so, for those of you who have thicker lenses, what kind of frames do you usually go for? thanks!

Merci.

movies where one of the characters has a stutter?

hello! as someone with a stutter, i'm aware that it can be annoying for people who don't stutter to listen to me.

so that may explain why i have never seen a movie or show with a character who's stutter wasn't the butt of the joke.

but maybe some of you have movie recommendations where one of the characters stutters but it isn't treated as a joke? it's okay if they're bullied for it, as it could make for a storyline, but not simply « haha, look at them, they stutter! » with zero depth on them as a character, if that makes sense?

thanks!

shows where one of the main characters has a stutter?

hello, all! as someone who's always had a stutter, i know it can be annoying for others to hear it... but i was wondering if there were any shows where one character had a stutter and it wasn't treated as a joke all the time?

i have never heard a character stutter. except during certain scenes where they feel anxious or scared, but never constantly. thanks! i love pretty much all genres, so no worries.

I'm exhausted. Stutter getting worse in the summer, anyone else?

hello, this is just a post to vent. i've had a stutter ever since i was a kid. we tried speech therapy, and it went away for a year before it came back when i started middle school.

It only seems to get worse as the years go by. Now, I'm twenty two, and can barely speak properly without stuttering or finding alternatives to words I was going to say. It's so exhausting, living like this... My relatives all make fun of me when I stutter, or ignore me, tell me to talk faster. The only person who's okay with my stuttering seems to be my stepdad. He's the only person I'm okay with finishing my sentences, and he usually understands what I want to say when I struggle.

My family doesn't seem to understand that I can't control my stuttering, no matter how hard I try or how much I breathe. I have a hard time being social because of it and don't have any friends. I'm afraid to get a job because I hate being around people, but also because simply being outside and talking to workers, I can feel their annoyance and I don't want anyone to feel annoyed when speaking to me.

I'm just so tired of this. All the mental gymnastics I have to do to avoid stuttering on a certain word, recite sentences over and over only to block on one word and then just stop talking because I'm frustrated. It also seems to get worse during the summer. My brain works slower, like most people, but it affects my speech so much... I've just decided to speak less at this point.

putting off wash day during a heatwave...

tldr: how are you dealing with your hair during very warm weather? any tips?

hello! i just wanted to discuss with you all and see if i'm alone in this. it may sound disgusting, but my country has been going through constant heatwaves for the past two months and i've kind of given up on my hair.

i'm still washing it once a week, but sometimes i'll wait for 8 days instead of 6, which means it'll be very oily by then and harder to wash at times. (for context, i have 3a hair that goes past my shoulders and it gets a bit greasy by day 5.) during the summer, my hair is mostly in a braid that i twist into a bun to keep off my neck.

i know this isn't the best for my hair and my scalp, but washing my hair, having to keep it down for it to dry only to sweat as soon as i get out of the shower isn't really something i look forward to.

how are you dealing with your hair during very warm weather? any tips?

i've thought about cutting it shorter but not being able to put my hair up and feeling it on my neck is putting me off...

routine:

detangle when dry, since it makes me lose less hair in the shower and i detangle a few days prior to put my hair in braids anyway.

double shampoo with head and shoulders 2 in 1 (it works well for my hair and cleans it well after a week), and use a leave-in conditionner from yves rocher. then, i put my hair in a microfiber towel for around 15 minutes and let it air dry. voilà.

twitter/x keeps on labeling posts with adult content warning, even if it's not.

hello. i recently updated twitter, because a friend sent me a message and i couldn't answer it if i didn't update it. since the check ID thing was approved, i had promised myself not to update the app, but alas.

anyway. i have notice a few posts on my timeline being blocked with the adult content warning, even though i know that these posts don't contain adult content. i mostly use twitter for updates on certain singers i enjoy and to follow artists who draw fan-art. today, the app labelled three posts containing fan-art or a throwback from an old music video with the content warning and won't let me see the pictures in these tweets.

anyone experience this?

i would've understood if these posts actually had adult content, but they don't! it pisses me off how nothing seems to be working right on this app. the mute button is useless since posts containing muted words still show up on my tl and you can still see blocked accounts or people who blocked you.

At home remedies for bruxism?

Hello. I hope posts like these are allowed on here!

I have been grinding my teeth for months now, often waking up with a sore jaw. It's something that comes and goes, depending on my sleep pattern, I guess. I haven't been under any stress lately but I'm still doing it.

I have talked to my dentist about it during my last appointment but they didn't give me anything for it, either to relax muscles or a night guard... And I cannot afford going back for now, plus I'd rather find at home remedies and try them.

Has anyone found something that they can do at home to help? Maybe drink tea, yoga, anything? Thanks!

tea or infusions to relax before bed?

hello, all. i have never posted on here before, but i'm losing it. i have been clenching my teeth often at night, waking up with a sore jaw and dry mouth for some reason...

i'm not under any stress that i know of at the moment, and it's something that comes and goes. anyway, are there any tea you'd recommend that help relax at night? would rather deal with this with at home remedies for now.

i don't think i have any particular preferences for tea, i don't drink it often... and when i do, it's usually something kind of fruity or sweet.

thank you! :)

games similar to style savvy/boutique on switch?

hello! i used to be a huge fan of the style savvy (or style boutique) series as a kid and recently watched a video going over the different games and it made miss playing it a lot... in the video, the creator talked about fashion dreamer and how different it was compared to the style savvy games.

and i haven't seen many people gush over this game, so i'd rather not get it but i do want to try and find a game where you have your own store, can customize your avatar and boutique and where the npcs are fun just like in style boutique! c: it doesn't necessarily have to be fashion related!

thank youu.

How can I be more active after being sedentary for the past few years?

Hello! I've been wanting to be more active after three years of doing pretty much nothing but stay home... I have lost a lot of strength, and doing mundane tasks such as the dishes or even washing my hair and standing up for a long time have become difficult for me.

I have plans of buying a mini stepper with elastic bands to strengthen both my legs and arms, since my room is small. Is that a good idea? I know it may sound silly, but I also want to try and do more Just Dance dances. As a kid, they were an easy way for me to move and I think they can be a fun away to work out.

I mostly want to work on my legs and arms / hands. Thought of buying those wrist strengthener things, but I'm not sure if they're useful. I have no idea where to start... All I know is that I need to regain some strength ASAP to be able to walk without pain and wash my hair without feeling like I have done a full workout after. Please note that I cannot go outside, I do not enjoy going outside and would rather work out from home. Thank you! :)

(For people worried – I have done blood tests etc, and everything came back normal. It probably all has to do with not being active for a few years.)

how to avoid back pain when washing hair?

helloo. 3a curls on a good day here, fine hair that takes time to get wet and gets tangled easily. i'm truly getting tired of washing my hair... once a week, it's a battle to wash it properly and mentally prepare for the pain i'll be in once i'm done.

my hair is shoulder length when it's wet, and it's the longest it has been in years. i used to shave it at the beginning of every year for the past three years. it takes time to get wet, and gets tangled super easily. i've found the easiest and quickest way to get it wet and wash it so it doesn't get greasy fast is to do it upside down. however, this has caused me a lot of back and hip pain over the past few months, as well as leg pain...

so how do you all do it? i've tried washing my hair standing up but my arms end up hurting and it feels like my hair isn't getting washed thoroughly and gets tangled, plus i find it hard to get rid of all the shampoo this way.

if anyone has tips, please share them!

routine: detangle when dry, since it makes me lose less hair in the shower. double shampoo with head and shoulders 2 in 1 (it works well for my hair), and use a leave-in conditionner from yves rocher. then, i put my hair in a microfiber towel for around 15 minutes and let it air dry. voilà. thanks.

Is it dangerous to wear expired pads?

Helloo. I'll be quick... I found a pack of period pads I bought at Lidl, probably two years or a year ago (?), three years max, in my old plushie drawer. Money is tight this month, and pads are usually a big cost for me since I tend to bleed a lot and go through a big pack of night pads and a half...

Anyway. I'm wondering if it can be dangerous to wear potentially expired pads? I can't find any information on the date of manufacture or expiration on the pack or the pads themselves and the pads (from their individual wrappers) look good and smell normal. It's from the brand Siempre, the Lidl version of Always, haha. Thanks!

EDIT: Thank you for the responses. From what I read, the only downside from using expired pads could be that the adhesive doesn't stick anymore. And not all pads have an expired date, could simply be based on the material used.

Short runs or standalone comics recommendations?

Hello! c: Finally got to watch Supergirl yesterday and it was really fun!

I had some issues with the pacing and felt like the script was lacking a bit, and the vfx looked a bit rough but other than that – Milly and Eve were absolutely superb in this and i'm so, so excited to see more of Milly Alcock as Kara! (Any luck we'll hear from Ruthye again?)

I also really liked the story and the soundtrack. (I know a lot of people hated that needle drop near the end, but to me, we were seeing that scene from Ruthye's point of view. It shows us that she admires Kara.) Though, I will say I'm surprised that Blondie's Call Me isn't on the soundtrack despite being associated with Supergirl during all the promo.

I haven't read Woman of Tomorrow yet, and I'm glad I didn't! It allowed me to experience the movie to the fullest and enjoy it without comparing it to its source material. Now that I've watched it, I'll read WoT and do a rewatch to see how well it does for an adaptation.

Anyway, all that to ask if there are any relatively short Supergirl comic runs that you'd recommend, or stand alone comics?

I have never read comics before but I have a few to read in the next few weeks to familiarise myself with both Clark and Kara. I also want to read Supergirl's Family Vacation, which, yes, is for a younger audience but it seems adorable!

Thanks! 💫

are there alternatives for a pelvic mri?

hello, all. i've been prescribed to do a pelvic MRI by my gynecologist for pelvic pain and an ovary that is could be too close to my uterus.

the thing is, i haven't been able to do it. every time i take an appointment, i end up cancelling it because thinking about the whole process of getting an MRI causes too much distress and anxiety. from the cleaning / enema (english isn't my first language, apologies if this isn't the right word!) to thinking about potentially putting a gel up there and all the injections and being stuck in an incredibly loud machine for an hour... it's all too much for me. i'm absolutely terrified of most medical appointments involving injecting things and being naked to some degree, and i have a deep hatred for loud noises and feeling stuck.

so this is impossible for me. i'm seeing my gynecologist next week and hopefully will find a way to still get a pelvic exam in some way. i've already done an ultrasound and x-ray, which didn't show much... i'm so exhausted of being so scared but there isn't anything i can do. i can't take medication for anxiety because it always has a huge effect on me and exhausts me so much.

have any of you dealt with things like that? are there any alternatives for MRIs for people who are terrified of being stuck, loud noises, being injected too many things? thank you.
