Why are redditors so mean?

You go on the Internet and hear stories but literally people in real life are friendly and chill as if people don't seem to be super harsh etc

It's so unnecessary but it happens so why then like why do redditors assume the worst from people

[OC] Why do redditors shame others unnecessarily more than foreigners

Does anyone else feel like Indian Reddit has an inferiority complex about how foreigners see India?

I've noticed this not just here, but on other Indian subreddits (even r/TeenIndia at times). Whenever a tourist shares a negative experience, the comments quickly become "our reputation is ruined," "foreigners must hate us," or "this is why the world looks down on us."

As an Egyptian, this feels really familiar because people say similar things about Egypt online. But my real-life experience has been very different. I've spent time at resorts and water parks where there were lots of foreign tourists, and they were mostly just... normal people. They were friendly, chatting with locals, swimming, relaxing, and enjoying their holiday. Even when I asked some tourists about visiting places like Luxor—which has persistent sellers and scams—they generally acknowledged the issues but didn't seem to hate Egypt or Egyptians because of it. They treated it as something to be aware of while traveling rather than judging an entire country.

I'm not saying we should ignore genuine problems. We should absolutely improve civic sense and address issues where they exist. But sometimes Reddit seems more anxious about foreign validation than the tourists themselves. It feels like people online assume every visitor is constantly judging the whole country, when many travelers are much more chill and capable of separating a few bad experiences from an entire nation.

TL;DR: Does Indian Reddit sometimes overestimate how negatively foreigners view India? It often feels like Reddit worries more about "our reputation abroad" than many actual tourists do.

Which is the country with the highest poverty rates?

And what has led xyz country to become so impoverished in the first place

and do you think its still possible to climb from the lower or middle class to the upper class in that country or upper middle class at the very least

Me be like after being abroad

As if I'm so not having it in egypt lol (come here in 2020)

I really miss the gulf and the malls etc there honestly.....2019.....

Those were the days

u/rulugg — 12 days ago

what would be upper middle class/rich in egypt?

upper middle class:

apartment in a nicer area (a mid end compound but not ultra elite/exclusive)

going to malls, plazas etc regularly

going to resorts or to the north coast (though maybe by renting rather than owning property there)

being able to afford a normal international school but not the elite ones (120k egp to 200kegp or something like that) (british or american)

someone who works remotely with a foreign company or at a multinational in egypt

upper class/actually rich in egypt:

owning a villa or even a mansion/palace in a prestigious compound (new cairo or sheikh zayed)

owning a vacation home in a north coast gated community

elite international schools (british or american or IB) (BSME schools if british) (400k+ egp)

access to a sports club (nadi)

being able to go on vacations abroad in the summer if you don't want to go to your north coast villa

owning a business/industrial business in egypt

so what do you think about the class divide that exists rn in egypt. do you think it should widen even more or no

Do less fortunate people in your country worry about survival often

Or are they still better off on a global scale

The economy in egypt doesn't make sense anymore

I’ve been looking at the real estate market and social stratification here lately, and the numbers genuinely don't make sense anymore.

We all know about the massive divide between people struggling for basic everyday needs and those living in gated communities. But even within compound culture, the class tiers are getting insane. You look at legacy luxury spots like Katameya Heights or Mivida where standard homes are casually clearing 100 Million+ EGP (2m dollars+). Meanwhile, you can go to a brand-new, modern development that also features villas and top-tier amenities, yet it costs a fraction of that price.

How does a zip code or a specific brand name create a 100M+ EGP gap for fundamentally similar concrete and land, all while a huge portion of the country is facing intense inflation? Is it purely about buying into an exclusive "caste" or social circle at this point? How do you guys see this impacting the social fabric?

why is classism still a thing in egypt even within compounds themselves

why is hate for others and classism/casteism so rampant these days?

I’ve been thinking a lot about the extreme wealth gaps in developing countries, specifically looking at Egypt.

It’s wild because you can be standing in a high-end urban area surrounded by luxury malls, exclusive country/sporting clubs (nadis), and massive private villas. But just a few kilometers away, within the exact same city limits, people are facing intense economic pressure just to secure absolute basic everyday necessities. The social bubbles are so insulated that it feels like two different worlds operating under one flag.

Does this kind of hyper-segregated "bubble culture" exist in your country too? How visible is the divide between the upper echelon and the everyday citizen where you live, and how does it affect the way people interact?

and for hate (women especially too) is it just me or does it seem like gender wars/oppression even not just for gender but social classes and nationality exists too "xyz place isnt for xyz or zyx people etc" (ok yes I put this there to somehow make this post kind of related to this subreddit to try to not have this post removed by the mod team)

so why did we as a species put ourselves in this state of hate/classism/casteism etc

how are public schools in your country

I took my civics (national studies) exam and in the language school (egyptian government school I think) that I went to for my exam there were no basketball or volleyball courts

there was I think technically a "football court" though but the football goal area place doesn't even have a net and there is sand instead of actual suitable flooring.....

and no swimming pool too in the school as well for swimming classes after school or something

no wifi and no computer inside of the classroom as well.....

while my school (yes I come from an international school (british system)) has a basketball court, football court, pool and a canteen.

I wonder how do people in public or language schools make it out like how do they cope with being in a school like this lol and my school isnt even the most expensive one in egypt given its like 164kegp max in school fees for the 2026/2027 school year according to the internet
