If the next gen Type R was unveiled as a hybrid and still a six speed manual, would you buy it?

Honestly, I would. More gas saved means more laps on the track!

Also, if Honda still kept their EV committment, I wonder if they would ever make the Type R an EV?

AITAH - Landlord is trying to rescind rent break for submitting a Notice to Vacate after renovations

I would post this on the rental and tenant related subs, but they are of no help.

I currently live up Northern California and my apartment has been in a state of repair since May 25th, 2026.

The kitchen, spare bathroom and spare bedroom had to be ripped out due to pipes that had burst in my unit and the one below me. However, the demolition and restoration have taken too long to where they just started reconstructing the bedroom, while the bathroom and kitchen don't have a set date, yet.

By law, the landlord and property management have to secure me a temporary place. However, because there are no units around or places that are below what the landlord's insurance allows, I elected to take a rent break. It's to cover all of August, September and October.

Before all of this, I already had intentions to move because my new job and other business are in the next city over, which is about a 30 to 40 minute drive. I have found an apartment that is close by. So, I will be saving some money moving.

My lease ends on October 11th and because I have 60 days to notify, I submitted my notice to vacate.

According to one of the workers at the property management whom I had gotten to know, the landlord is furious at my intention to move and is trying to get the rent break rescinded and my deposit taken. One of the reasons is because I essentially "wasted her time and money" in getting the place fixed - which is only the kitchen; it was supposed to be done two weeks ago, but it's not. Currently, the battle is between the property manager, who oversees the properties in my area, and the landlord.

I had tried to consult legal about this, but I have yet to get a response. AITAH?

My monthly budget plan - advice

Hey everyone. I'm looking for some opinions and advice for my current budget plan.

To note: I have been laid off for almost a year after moving across the country for a work transfer. After spending months trying to find a job within my skill set and certifications, I decided to go back to school full time. I will be using VR&E, while being paid VA comp and my part time work at a property management company.

Ultimately, my goal is to have financial security for my future spouse and kids and purchase a home within 10 years. However, the latter is becoming kind of difficult with the current economy. I may have to reassess by 2030.

Here are the numbers:

Total Savings in investments and HYSA (including Roth and TSP): $134k

Income:

  • VA Comp: at 70%: $1808

  • VR&E Subsistence: $3351

  • Part time job: $2,870

  • Grand total: $8209

I will receieve the full Pell grant for 26-27 school year, but it's excluded as the disbursement schedule greatly varies.

Spending:

  • Monthly spending budget (food/groceries, entertainment, necessities): $1000

  • Rent: $1870

  • Bills: $150

  • Car note: $385

  • Insurance: $195 (I pay every six months for a discount, so this is divided by 6)

  • Subscriptions: (Netflix, PSN, Spotify) $60

In theory, I should have at least $4549 leftover. It gets divided and sent to my Roth IRA, emergency fund and brokerage account. Sometimes it's above that if I don't spend my $1000 or under; the least I had was around $1700 after I had to spend a lot for a new apartment, deposit and moving.

Any advice, tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated!

For those who started investing in 2026, what made you?

For me, it was after realizing why I didn't earlier after listening to my friends talk about it.

I'm 29 years old and did over 10 years in the US Army. For those who have served, you had probably heard many NCOs and finance counselors preach heavily about saving and investing in your Thrift Savings Plan. And what not to do with your finances, like buying a Challenger at 39% APR, etc.

I had met some service members who had their brokerages and their TSP for a few years and had a plan. For me, the common excuse was that I didn't know where to start or didn't want to lose a lot, especially seeing those green and red numbers/percentages on TV or on my search engine homepage. I barely opened up my TSP six years in and I was contributing $150 a month all in the G-Fund. I upped it by $50 by year eight, but never messed with my mix.

Heck, I won't forget one NCO showing me his Schwab portfolio back in late 2020 and the amount of gains in his stocks and ETFs were massive!

After I got out, I had $75k saved in a checking account. I opened a HYSA a month later and four months after, a brokerage. I did all sorts of math and divided the money into emergency savings, IRA, investments and cash-on-hand.

By this point, I had a general understanding with how stocks charts move, what ETFs were and DCAing, so for a few weeks, I was putting bits of money in until I read more into investing, strategies (value investing, Boglehead method, etc.), diversification, etc.

Now, I made substantial unrealized gains with my ETFs and a few companies. There are two companies that dipped greatly after their past two earnings reports, but hopefully, they recover. I still consider myself a novice, so if you want to add your advice and secrets, feel free!

It's really crazy how far some players will try to message you

I keep my messages off on PSN because I used to get a lot of spam and insults from players crying over matches, such as - but not limited to - a Battlefield or Call of Duty match.

However, it's beyond mental that some will go so far to make themselves heard. Probably my own mistake, but I share my PSN name with my Steam and XBLive account, both that I don't play often.

When I checked my computer and noticed I got a message from Steam, it was a player from a CoD: Black Ops II match messaging and insulting me for having a terrible K/D ratio and that I should go play Roblox. He sent the same message on my XBLive account.

It's reasons like this that I have shied away from online gaming.

Weird schizo post mentioning Charlie and other big YouTubers

On my adventure of finding unhinged reddit content, I found a really weird post that apparently implicates Charlie and other big YouTubers of harassing this smaller creator for over seven years.

Even though he posted this over a year ago, he had not uploaded on his channel for over three years at the time. Of course, I don't believe Charlie would do something like this, especially as this crestor refers Boogie2988 an "ethics YouTuber" 😂😂😂

Not sure if he is out of meds, but I will start a GoFundMe to get him supplied.

Experiences with Amex Travel Guard customer service?

I had used them twice within the last five years. I really dislike that I have to keep calling for them to even do their job.

My last claim took over three months to even be approved; it finally did last Friday. During that time, I had many benefits of doubt that maybe they were backlogged or doing some arduous review. No, every call I had inquired, it was that they needed additional documentation, like a statement or another copy of my flight itinerary.

I'm not trying to sound entitled, but could they have at least send an email or called me? Even the customer service rep said they had no record of contacting me, besides the automated emails, when they usually do.

What's your most downvoted comment?

I know updoots and downdoots don't mean anything in Richtofen's grand scheme of things, but I'm curious to know what's your most downdudded comment?

For me, in IRL during this past tax season, I was making jokes about how I just did my taxes because I had gotten my largest return this year. I was taxed heavily in 2025, especially on my job severance in November. The joke was either I receive my refund or go to federal prison. I had gotten a lot of "harr-harrs" and "hee-hees".

However, when I said that on a subreddit as my last comment of the night, I woke up with around -300 downvotes. The hivemind was strong because not even the most upvoted comment was past 50 pointd.

A lot of the comments were from people telling me the obvious about taxes to insulting me, wishing I do end up in prison or that I'm one of the problems with fraud, etc. I had a few DMs of people wanting to insult me personally and bots offering me "tax experts" on Instagram, Snapchat, etc. I left the comment up for another day, but when I kept on getting dinged with insults, I deleted it.

So, what about yours?

Rent that is expensive, but the state of the property doesn't justify the price

It's one of those "Duh, what did you expect" posts, but I wanted to vent.

I've been apartment hunting because the one I live at needs a lot of wall, floor and plumbing work done, almost rendering it uninhabitable; my renters insurance thinks the opposite. I pay $1900 a month and expect a well upkeep place, but one by one, amentities have been removed, such as the pool, parking shade and security system. The flooring is thin enough to hear my downstairs neighbors sneeze and crack open a can of soda while the ones next door, I can hear vividly when they talk and watch TV. It's to a point where I have to tiptoe to be considerate.

Majority of the apartments I have been searching at where I live have rent between $2k to $3k, but are poorly maintained, have limited amentities and/or fixtures and appliances that desperately need to be caught up with the times.

One place I looked at had a White-Westinghouse fridge built in 1967, GE stove and oven that is from the 70s, flooring and walls cracked, chipping or coming apart and poorly maintained exterior. And they're asking for $2250. Like come on, at least give the place some TLC and bring it to 2026.

Granted, I make decent money, but I don't want majority of it going to rent and utilities.

Rant over.

Just wanted to share an experience with a NCO whom I had a displeasure of serving with and what happened after

TL;DR - Former Marine turned Soldier was a major PoS of a person and Team Leader and died by suicide after his life crumbled during the pandemic.

It's one of those "ok" or "cool story" responses, but I'd figured I let it out to clear my mind.

I was in the Army from esrly 2013 to late 2023. When I was in Korea over a decade ago, we had a former Marine in my unit. He was in the Corps between 2009-2013, got out as Cpl and tried to be a working man, but reenlisted in the Army the same year as a SPC.

Guy was definition of a jarhead as he had that mentality, but later turned out he was a piece of shit. He never cared about his or his Soldiers' progression, bullied and ridiculed them and when they would ask him for help - peer or subordinate - he would never come through. His signature response when you would say hi to him was "fuck off". Worst Team Leader I ever had and he was my second after my first got demoted lol. There were times he would blame me for the team's, squad's and platoon's shortcomings on me, like blaming me for one of the squad's trucks for being unlocked or a connex being unsecured when I was not told anything about it. My squad leader even said that I was possibly facing a "Failure to Adapt" discharge and Article 15s.

When he looked back at the first time we had met, he told me that he would had killed me by breaking my neck, left me to suffer and to see "who would give a shit".

As a TL when he had switched squads a couple times, he had some counselings because of his behavior. He was facing an Article 15, but I assume nothing ever came of it because he was close to PCSing. When he did, that was the last time I ever saw him.

Almost two weeks ago on July 20th, I learned that he committed suicide. His parents reached out, send friend/follow requests (I accepted because they already had mutual friends) and tried to contact anyone who was stationed with him. I found that strange because I was never friends with him on social media; hell, he denied my FB friend request a year after I PCSed.

According to a mutual friend, he RCPed in early 2019 as a SPC, went back to his home state and started a few businesses with friends and a family member However, because of the pandemic, worsening economy and family drama, his businesses closed between 2021 and 2025. Also, he lost a lot of money because of that, got divorced twice and ended up homeless. Another friend who was stationed with him in Fort Carson in 2018 told me that no one liked him; he was an asshole over there and had gotten in trouble for an EO violation that pertained to female Soldiers.

His parents tagged us in a FB post with an orbituary and requested anyone send any pictures or write something about him for his celebration of life. We were also cordially invited to his funeral this past Sunday if we were able to find time to travel there. With the trauma he had caused to me in my mind, as much as I wanted to respond that their son was a total PoS who had left me a bad impression of the Army and nearly saying that I am glad that he is dead, I ignored the tagged post and blocked them.

Rental company and/or landlords not accepting VA comp or GI Bill/VR&E MHA as proof of income. Is this common?

I had a bit of a "color me shocked" moment.

I'm searching for a new place to rent as my current lease is almost up come mid September.

I applied for a couple of properties from two different property management companies from Zillow. When I provided my VA comp, MHA and part time job income (along with my financial aid and dividend earnings), both had said they would not accept them.

Company A says that law "forbids" them to use VA comp and other VA benefits. When I ask for what law and its jurisdiction, they wouldn't tell me.

Company B tells me that they do not count VA comp and MHA as proof of income because they're temporary and can be taken away at any time. While I had explained that MHA can because it's only active during a college semester, they said it's against their policies.

I'm still searching for a place. Is this a common thing for rental comapanies and possibly landlords to do?

[CA] - Rent break

At my current apartment, renovations are being done to my bathroom, kitchen and spare bedroom due to a pipe burst from my unit and the one below me. It's been like this since June 20th.

My renter's insurance will not cover a temporary accomodation because my main bedroom and the ensuite bathroom are still usable. My landlord proposed a rent break and I agreed to it for August and possibly September.

I still have to pay rent, but my landlord said that once their insurance pays out, they will reimburse me for it.

Is this a common thing? Should I take their word or is there something in the rules to protect me?

What's up with NovaOnline?

I recently learned about this gentlesir named NovaOnline. I haven't heard of him, but after learning just the surface level of things, this netizen has a disturbing history both online and in life spanning nearly a decade with so many allegations.

There are a lot of videos covering on this mister, but I wanted to get the CliffsNotes before I jump into the lore of this character.
