Some of the 3rd party releases on Switch 2 (And the 9th gen as a whole) have really shown how much standards for optimization and performance have dropped.

This discussion isnt exactly Switch 2 specific. But I’ve been thinking about this because of how many AAA games have released on the Switch 2 with such bad optimization.

I feel like this past generation has really normalized bad optimization for a lot of AAA releases. Like the Series X and PS5 were such a massive boost in power compared to previous generation, that consoles were finally competing with mid-high end PCs.

But I wonder if that boost in power made devs complacent with worse optimization. Like they imagined the increased hardware would do all the work for them. I mean there are games releasing nowadays that are running badly on high end PCs. Space Marine 2, the Jedi Survivor games, the new Monster Hunter, Borderlands, etc. These games are struggling to push 60fps on RTX 5000 series. At some point we should just be allowed to say that studios are getting cheap with optimization…?

And the Switch 2 really highlights this issue. Because yeah the Switch 2 isn’t a powerhouse…but it’s also not some shit box. It’s still considerably stronger than a PS4 Pro or One X. Yet we’re getting performance worse than the 8th generation here. The Castlevania team can’t be assed to make a 2D platformer run at 60fps on it. Or that Elden Ring footage, which honestly looks as rough as base PS4 footage.

I also feel like a big part of this issue is that studios keep chasing higher fidelity visuals, at the cost of performance. Like I’m not sure how hot of a take this is, but I stopped caring about graphical fidelity the moment the PS5 launched. Because while yes, there was *technically* a different in graphical detail, it wasn’t enough for me to care. There are games from the PS3 generation that still look incredible today.

I feel like if studios were willing to sacrifice graphical fidelity a bit, we could see so much more advancement in optimization, level design, asset loading, etc.

Is there a way to be added back into Project HH after being off boarded?

I was off boarded from Project HH a few months ago due to a failed assessment. (BTW, I hate those constant quizzes. It’s probably just a way of getting unpaid work out of us.)

And I know HH sucks due to the pay issues. But it was also one of the few AI jobs that had regular tasks. Every other Project either doesn’t pay due to some “pay per task” bs, or never has any work to do.

Is there a way to be added back to HH after a failed assessment? Maybe a referral or something?

How legit are these online affiliate marketing programs influencers keep pushing?

I’m looking for some way to make extra income, and it seems my algorithm picked up on that. Because I’m seeing hundreds of videos every day of influencers pushing some sorta affiliate marketing program.

Specifically ones where you use Pinterest images to take a small commission off sales of an Amazon product.

And I’m wondering, how legit is this? This seems like one of those “too good to be true” opportunities. Especially with how much money these guys promise you can make off of them.

But it’s worth asking. Anyone try this stuff? How is it?

Anyone worked sales for Power Home Remodeling?

Got a message from Power Home Remodeling for their sales rep role. I didn’t think much of it at first, cause honestly I’m just desperate for a job rn. Just graduated and got nothing good so far…

I had my over the phone interview, and was told I might get a response for later. And after doing some quick research about the company, I’m a bit unsure about the position. (Not that beggars can be choosers, lol) I’m already not too confident in this job since I have no sales experience, and don’t think I’m cut out for it. But some other things stood out to me…

For one they’re not being upfront about the base salary. And honestly, being a door to door salesperson seems like an impossible task in today’s climate. But that’s why I’m asking. Anyone worked with these guys, have any experience with being a sales rep?

What’s the consensus on using AI for programming?

For my first gamedev project (Nothing impressive, just a basic tech demo to get started) I used AI for a lot of the code. I was in a rush to get the project done as fast as possible, and I just don’t think I could’ve learned anything on my own in that timespan. And honestly, Ive just never been very good with work relating to complex logic and puzzles, so programming was always gonna be a touch field for me. I got into game design mostly because of my passion for art and design. The programming was just the tough hurdle for me to jump past.

And this is why I wanted to ask this question. Because I understand there some hypocrisy in my stance on AI here. I would never accept AI being used for art, music, writing, etc, because I saw those fields as being inherently artistic. Yet I make an exception for using AI to program a game because I see it as being a separate field.

It’s not that I see programming as a “lesser” field. It’s the backbone of the gaming industry. But I guess I don’t see programming as “personal” as most artistic work, so shortcuts like AI are more acceptable…? And that maybe this is the one field where AI shortcuts actually belong?

Im also just assuming that because my use of AI is so limited and amateurish compared to the level of work say, a high level AAA dev works on, my use of AI poses no threat to their career. And maybe I’m just saying this to feel less hypocritical about it.

But that’s why I’m asking. I want to know how other game devs feel about using AI for programming?

How does crowdfunding work for indie devs? How do you set up a crowdfunding campaign, and what makes one succeed?

I’m considering setting up a crowdfunding campaign for my indie game, and I just had some questions. For context, I’m a long while away from actually asking for any financial support.

I’m planning to build up a social media presence by uploading conceptual artwork and animations of the game, as well as progress updates on the game. Which hopefully would build enough support over the next few months to convince people to support a crowdfunding campaign. I’m at the start of just developing the game, so like I said anything financial is a long while’s away.

And obviously it’s possible the campaign fails. Hell probably actually. But I assume it’s worth attempting anyway. And I just wanted to ask, how does setting up a crowdfunding campaign work?

Like, can anyone just set up a Go Fund Me or Kickstarter campaign for their game? Are there any qualifications you have to meet? Are you obligated to give some sort of gift to the donators (Like art books, or pre-orders of the game, etc?) How common are perks for donators?

I’ve also heard that once you hit a certain threshold of donations met (I think 75% of your goal) you’re legally obligated to finish and release the project. Not sure if this is for Kickstarter or Go Fund Me though.

Deposit charged to card, but not showing up in funds?

As the title says, I tried to deposit some money directly from my credit card to my funds. The money was charged on my card, but won’t show up in my funds.

I’m pretty sure depositing from your card is meant to be immediate, I’ve done it before. If this can’t be fixed, I’ll just cancel the transaction from my card. Just wanted to see if there was a solution to this.

(UberEats) To those of you making around/more than $1,000 a week, how are you managing that?

I know there isn’t some “one fits all” magic strategy to start making tons of money on UberEats. But I’m wondering if you guys have any advice.

I’m really struggling to break even $500 to $600 a week. And these past few weeks have been especially horrible. Making less than $50 a day sometimes. Ive been at this for two years part time, but it looks like I’ll be stuck doing this full time for a while. So I really gotta make the most of it. For context Im in New Jersey.

To those making a lot of money on UberEats, anything specific you’re doing that might help? Do you have a high acceptance rate? Or are you extremely stingy with the orders you take? You bother with the gold/diamond system? Cause I’ve been told this stuffs a waste of time. But maybe I’m wrong, I don’t know.

How much more effective is oral Minoxidil compared to topical Minoxidil?

Currently on oral Fin 1mg, and topical Min 5%. I think I’m seeing some regrowth, though it’s hard to be sure. I’ve been on the Minoxidil for about a year (on and off though, I was inconsistent), and the Finasteride for just a couple of months. I think I might be going through a big shedding phase right now. Got some really tiny hairs of varying sizes and density showing up around my temples, so hopefully that’s a sign of regrowth.

Anyway, I was wondering if I should switch to oral Minoxidil. I know oral Finasteride is universally agreed to be better than topical, but for some reason I’ve seen some conflicting advice about Minoxidil. Like when people mention combining Min and Fin, they always seem to mention using topical 5% Minoxidil.

I’m probably just gonna start taking the pills anyway, cause I’m sick of applying the foam. But I just wanted some second opinions. Also, what’s the oral equivalent of 5% topical? 1mg?

Will there be any tasks for Project L*tit*de? Just got onboarded, but I see nothing?

Oh if I had a nickel every time I got onboarded for an empty task. I’d have enough money that I wouldn’t even need one of these jobs…

Anyway, just got accepted to a new Project. The one named after measuring the world’s distance horizontally. And there’s no tasks at the moment.

To anyone who’s been on this task, how often do they send out work for this? I’m tired of joining Projects and not getting anything.

How to turn off the ride recording feature?

I think I might’ve turned on the feature that records your ride by accident. I don’t know for sure though, because nothing on this dumb fucking app has a basic “on/off” switch.

The support call thing is bullshit, so no help there. They straight up hung up on me.

Thing is, I don’t even have a dashcam. And I looked in my phones camera roll, there’s nothing there. But I got a notification saying I just recorded my first ride. My car is registered for the dashcam, but again no actual dashcam is registered. And I don’t even do rides, just Eats deliveries.

But now I’m worried the app is somehow recording me without my permission. Anyone know how to make sure this feature is off?

Recommendations for a hack n’ slash fantasy game with similar aesthetic and vibe to Godfall and Space Marine 2?(Switch 2 owner)

(I only have Switch 2, so please recommend games on that)

I’m looking for a new action fantasy game to get into. A hack and slash game with fast paced, punchy combat. A colorful fantasy world with some cool lore to find. The game can be any genre really. 2D, 3D, Linear, Open world, etc. (Just not turn based or rogeulikes)

I’m using Godfall and Space Marines 2 for an example of what kind of vibe I’m looking for. They both have a specific style of fantasy aesthetic I’m looking for.

Most modern fantasy action games feel like they lean into two extremes. Super-gritty realistic games, or really cartoony anime looking games. But games like Space Marines 2, Halo, and especially Godfall have an aesthetic I really liked. Really stylized, colorful fantastical worlds that still have a bit of grit and realism to them. I especially love the clunky suits of armor, shiny glowing weapons, that kind of stuff. I think this art style was more common pre-PS4, before realistic visuals became standard.

I also like worlds that have a story and lore to explore. Both Godfall and Space Marines place you as a soldier in a military faction. So it creates this grand vibe of fighting a big war with lore and factions to uncover.

I also do prefer a game has some focus on story, but not the kind of long-winded dialogue that’s common in most AAA games. Something a bit punchier and to the point.

I tried already looking into Final Fantasy and Devil May Cry, but the anime aesthetic just isn’t my vibe.
