Cardinals Coach Had Hilarious Response to NFL Schedule Release

Cardinals Coach Had Hilarious Response to NFL Schedule Release

Excerpt:

"Outside of my wife's phone ringing about who wants to come to the home games and away games, I don't really care about any of that," he told reporters during the beginning stages of voluntary team activities.

It's a long process to turn the Cardinals around, one that started way before voluntary activities according to LaFleur.

"It started back when they first got here for phase one. We spent those four days, like we discussed, where we didn't talk about one play. We were just talking about the pre-snap operation, the cadences, the formations, the motions, how it's all tied together," he said.

“Along with that, you're talking about a lot of the fundamentals of what you're trying to get done. Don't worry about the play. Here's how we hit blocks, here's how we hit interior blocks with our duo game, here's how the wide zone looks. Here's our slides. Here's our terminology. So you spend a lot of time just doing that.”

Larry Fitzgerald Predicts Breakout Year for Cardinals Star WR MHJ

Excerpt:

"So it's not the physical attributes [holding him back]. I just really want to see him take that next step and I know he's putting the work in. The guy works tirelessly, I hear from people at the facility that he's there all day working on the JUGS machine, working on the top route.”

"He really, really wants to be great and I'm really excited about the Cardinals, I think they're gonna surprise people. I know the schedule came out, people haven't been high on what they can accomplish."

Jack Gibbens believes in Cardinals' 2026 turnaround

Excerpt:

He joined a New England Patriots team last year following a 4-13 campaign in 2024, and the former Minnesota Golden Gopher went on a 14-3 regular-season ride that made a final pit stop at Levi’s Stadium in Super Bowl 60.

“Anyone can win any Sunday. Everyone’s good and anyone can make it happen,” Gibbens said Wednesday on Arizona Sports’ Wolf & Luke. “Just that belief, creating an identity, playing to that identity and believing in the guys next to you.”

“The margins in this league are so small, so it comes down to the minute details and execution,” Gibbens said. “Having that camaraderie and playing for each other, truly believing that we’re going to get this done.”

Thursday marked the end of the Cardinals’ first session of voluntary organized team activities. Arizona has two more bouts of OTAs (May 26-27 and 29, June 1-2 and 4) before veteran/rookie minicamp begins June 8.

The big benefit Rabbit Taylor-Demerson is seeing from head coach Mike LaFleur

Excerpt:

“One thing I like about having an offensive-minded coach … we kind of get that cross-training,” Taylor-Demerson told Arizona Sports’ Wolf & Luke on Thursday. “Whenever there’s things that need to be corrected, Mike does a really good job of making sure we can hear those corrections as well.

“We get some cross-training on the field and it’s really nice to get that to just learn more about the game.”

“Me and (quarterback Gardner Minshew) got real close as soon as he got here and he makes me better every single day. I literally tell him every single day, ‘If you got to pick on me to get me better, just pick on me.’ I want to be the best I can be, so I really appreciate those guys.”

Michael Wilson Won't Let Extension Conversation Derail His Offseason

Excerpt:

Wilson knows his contract situation is a story. He is due $3.9 million this season. He declined to get into specifics, preferring to keep the conversation between himself and the Cardinals.

"Truthfully that whole situation isn't going to dictate my offseason," Wilson said. "That's not something that I want to show up to the building with it on my mind. I don't want that to affect how I show up every single day because ultimately that stuff is going to take care of itself.

"What I did last year, I can't change. that's my resumé. That's what we are going off of. But as soon as Week 1 starts and we're playing against the Chargers, contract stuff, that doesn't matter, what I did (last year) doesn't matter. I need to make sure I'm taking care of what I can now, tomorrow, the next day after that. That's going to help me replicate (last) season and build on it."

Native Plants Preserved As Work Begins On New Cardinals Complex

Excerpt:

A total of 275 native trees and cacti are being preserved as construction gets underway, to be stored and then replanted once the complex is complete.

The Cardinals' facility will take 30 of the 217 total acres on the land, which is located at Scottsdale Road and Loop 101 in north Phoenix.

Among the plants being temporarily removed are several Ironwood trees, some of which are over 300 years old.

Jeremiyah Love returning kicks? Mike LaFleur leaving door open

Excerpt:

“You’re experimenting with everyone in terms of a lot of different spots. … Jeremiyah is a running back. We know that. But you never know,” LaFleur toldArizona Sports’ Burns & Gambo on Tuesday.

“That’s an extremely important play right now that the league has brought back over the years. It’s probably only going to get more of an uptick. … There might be a time and place situationally that it’s the best thing to do for the Arizona Cardinals.”

The Cardinals also have a legit return option in Devin Duvernay, who has 179 punt and kick returns to his name, to lead that side of the football.

Having Love versed in the return game isn’t a bad option to have in a pinch or on a case-by-case basis. After all, fellow No. 3 overall pick Larry Fitzgerald was used on special teams as a rookie. Running back David Johnson had his fair share of return reps, too, though he wasn’t a first-round pick making the most guaranteed money in the league as a rookie.

Cardinals CB Will Johnson "just feels right" wearing No. 2 in second Cardinals season

Excerpt:

Will Johnson won a national title and made All-America teams while wearing No. 2 at Michigan, but it wasn't available when he joined the Cardinals as a second-round pick in 2025.
Johnson wore No. 0 as a rookie, but he's back in his old number for his second season because linebacker Mack Wilson opted to switch to No. 1. After the team's first OTA on Monday, Johnson said the switch made a significant difference in his mind.

"It's a whole different feeling going into this year versus last year," Johnson said. "Last year, coming in with all the draft stuff and combine, and I was injured coming in, so that versus having some experience and feeling comfortable in the defense is a whole different feeling. It feels really good this year."

The Cardinals opted for defensive continuity by retaining defensive coordinator Nick Rallis under new head coach Mike LaFleur. A strong year for Johnson would help make that decision pay off in Arizona.

Everything We Saw From Cardinals' OTA Practice

Excerpt:

The biggest is the absence of projected starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett, who is still holding out for a new contract ahead of the 2026 season. Baron Browning and Josh Sweat were also not present while injured players in James Conner, Starling Thomas and Walter Nolen were spotted on the sideline.

"Everything is good from a dialogue standpoint, but like we said this is voluntary so that's where we will leave it," LaFleur said of Brissett. "He's played a lot of football. We're in communication. He knows what the expectation is."

Gardner Minshew took starting reps with rookie third-round pick Carson Beck behind him, who does appear to be quite excited on playing with the crop of talent in Arizona.

Sean Murphy-Bunting was working with safeties, not corners, today. Jeremiyah Love was mostly working behind the running backs with Trey Benson not currently there, either.
