A Chinese national has been arrested for dangerous driving after allegedly speeding at around 100 kilometers per hour in a Porsche through an intersection in Tokyo’s Bunkyō Ward and crashing into two passenger cars.
According to police, the suspect, Xu Zhenda (23), is accused of attempting to make a right turn at roughly 100 km/h in Bunkyō Ward on the 9th while driving a Porsche, colliding with two other vehicles and causing injury through dangerous driving.
Three people riding in the cars that were hit suffered injuries, including head trauma.
Investigators say the intersection’s safe “maximum cornering speed” was 50 km/h, but Xu attempted to turn at about double that speed.
The Metropolitan Police Department is also investigating the circumstances of the incident and believes Xu may not have had a valid driver’s license to operate a vehicle in Japan.

United Airlines Flight Diverted to Tokyo After Dispute Between Chinese Passenger and Crew
United Airlines Boeing 777-300ER flight UA858, operating the Shanghai Pudong to San Francisco International route, was diverted to Tokyo Narita International Airport on June 24 after a middle-aged Chinese female passenger became involved in a dispute with a flight attendant during the flight.
Following the unscheduled landing, Japanese police boarded the aircraft, interacted with those involved, and escorted the passenger off the plane. Cabin footage circulating online showed uniformed Japanese authorities near the aircraft exit, with other passengers recording the removal on their phones.
Flight tracking data shows the aircraft eventually departed Narita at 17:53 JST — approximately four hours and forty minutes behind its scheduled departure — before continuing to San Francisco.
The incident prompted widespread frustration online over the significant operational disruption and costs caused to other passengers. Supporters of the diversion decision noted that crew safety is paramount and airlines are obligated to act when disputes reach a level requiring intervention. United Airlines has not issued a detailed public statement on the specific nature of the dispute.
