Being called “Kiddo” at work

I’m a 30-year-old woman, a CPA, and a parent. I’ve been working in tax for about 10 years, starting at a small CPA firm during college, then moving to Big 4, and now working in a role that involves both tax and trading.

I have a partner/director-level colleague (early 40s) who constantly calls me “kiddo.” In meetings, in one-on-one conversations, when stopping by my office. it’s almost never my actual name, just “kiddo.”

I’ve only worked at two other firms before this, and I’ve never had anyone address me that way. It’s not the end of the world, but it feels dismissive (don’t know if this is the right word), especially given that I’m an experienced professional and not a new graduate.

I don’t consider myself particularly sensitive, but it happens often enough that it’s starting to bother me. I’ve been considering setting up a quick catch-up meeting and politely asking to be addressed by my name instead.

Has anyone dealt with something similar? How did you handle it, and how was it received?

ETA: Thank you for the advice. No, I've never heard him call anyone else kiddo. The young lady hired at the same time as me from KPMG (one position lower) has never been referred to as a kiddo. He addresses her by first name. I've never had a superior at PwC refer to me as anything other than my name, so apologies if this is normal somewhere else. He did it again at a team meeting this morning. I have only known this guy for 4 weeks, so I don't have a rapport with him. He does not address me by name and it's not hard to pronounce. Very similar to the name "Ariana". I don't expect my superior to call me that during meetings. Is he going to start doing this when we have joint calls with clients? Rather address this now.

Stuck on train to Dover for over an hour. Live in Pennsylvania :(

Everyone on my train car is so mad right now. What's making it worse is they still went around checking everyone's tickets while we've been sitting here delayed for over an hour.

I'm the last stop too.

I used to commute from Pennsylvania to New York all the time, but stopped when congestion pricing started. Now I'm sitting here wondering if a career in the city is even worth it. Yesterday we had to stop in Morristown because the conductor said the brakes were acting up, and now this.

At this point I just want to get home and eat my leftover lasagna and chicken :(

Can someone explain why this question on Regulation is wrong?

Hey there. Haven't been on this sub in years. I passed my exams quite some time ago, but I'm helping an intern with the TBS on Regulation, and I got this one wrong lol

Can someone explain why question 16 is wrong? I haven't taken regulation in 2 years, but I thought that a non-relative who lived with the taxpayer for the entire year qualified as the taxpayer's dependent.

SUPORT Acronym for Qualifying Relative:

  1. Support Test

  2. Under gross income

  3. Precludes dependent filing joint return

  4. Only citizens or residents of US, Mexico, or Canada

  5. Relative OR Taxpayer lives with individual for the whole year

SOLVED: Thank you to the three people that explained it below. It's been awhile.

Family comments about my body are making me want to relapse

I spent most of my life struggling with an eating disorder and used veganism as a cover for it. I was heavily restricting my food intake, and Starbucks drinks often became meal replacements. I've been in recovery for a few years now, and for the first time in a long time, my body is healthy. My hair grew back and now reaches my tailbone instead of constantly breaking off from nutritional deficiencies. I can take walks around the city with friends without getting dizzy, weak, or exhausted.

Now that my body has changed, I constantly hear comments from family about being "thick," gaining weight, or how I look better now than when I was thinner. I hate it. I worked hard to recover, yet those comments make me want to go back to restricting, to being invisible, and to taking up less space.

My body is nobody else's business. I don't understand why people feel so comfortable commenting on someone else's weight or appearance. Whether someone gains weight, loses weight, or stays the same, it's inappropriate to discuss their body without being asked. Has anyone else struggled with these kinds of comments during recovery? How do you handle them?

The New York Post Finding a Negative Angle in Every Mamdani Story

The New York post is garbage. So glad this subreddit bans this tabloid.

Anyway, on to the positive: New York City mayor Mamdani kicked off summer vacation by jumping into the Thomas Jefferson pool in East Harlem today. Friday was the last day of school for most kids in the city. Earlier this month, Mamdani and NYC Parks Commissioner Tricia Shimamura announced the opening of registration for an expanded number of free summer Learn to Swim classes at 18 outdoor pools across the city.

The Supreme Court of Nepal has ruled in favour of marriage equality, issuing a binding directive order to the government to ensure equal marriage rights for gender and sexual minorities

“The ruling is now the fourth Supreme Court decision over nearly two decades that makes clear: the freedom to marry the person you love is a guarantee under Nepal’s Constitution”.

“LGBTQIA+ couples and their families must be afforded the dignity, respect, and protections that only marriage can provide”.

California ‘billionaire tax’ makes ballot despite opposition from tech moguls

California officials announced that a proposed ballot initiative imposing a one-time tax on residents worth more than $1 billion has qualified for the November 2026 ballot. The measure, backed by a healthcare workers' union, faces strong opposition from Gov. Gavin Newsom and several tech billionaires, who argue it could drive wealthy residents and investment out of the state. Supporters say the revenue is needed to fund healthcare, education, and food assistance programs.
