💔 Gardenia did everything she could to keep her babies alive.
She gave birth to seven tiny puppies on the side of a house, doing her best to protect them from the relentless Texas heat. Thankfully, a kind citizen noticed the little family and called for help before it was too late.
Now Gardenia and all seven of her puppies are safe at the shelter.
But they’re not truly safe yet.
The shelter is no place for a nursing mom and newborn puppies. Their immune systems are fragile, and every day they remain in the shelter puts them at risk of illness during one of the most critical stages of their lives.
Gardenia is understandably nervous after everything she’s been through, but she’s a gentle girl who allows handling and has been an incredible mother. Her puppies are fat, healthy, happy, and completely dependent on her.
Let’s keep this little family together and get them into a safe, quiet home where Mom can continue raising her babies without the stress of a shelter.

Today, while volunteering at the shelter, I was asked to spend some time with a young puppy named Kingston and help share his story.
What I learned was heartbreaking.
Kingston is only six months old, yet he has already been returned to the shelter three times.
He first arrived as a stray at just four months old. Each time he was adopted, he was eventually brought back. The most common reason?
"He has too much energy."
But Kingston isn't "too much."
He's a puppy.
Puppies are naturally energetic. They need patience, guidance, training, and a family willing to help them grow.
I spent time walking Kingston today, and throughout our visit he was nothing but sweet, affectionate, and excited to be around people.
At one point, he picked up a toy and proudly carried it for the entire walk. It was as if it had become his greatest treasure.
Despite everything he's already experienced in such a short life, Kingston still greets the world with a wagging tail, a toy in his mouth, and hope that someone will finally choose him—and keep that promise forever.

Billy is just 9 weeks old.
Instead of learning about toys, naps, and belly rubs, this tiny puppy is spending his first weeks of life covered in painful, itchy skin from severe sarcoptic mange.
His little body has lost much of its fur. His skin is inflamed, dry, crusted, and covered in sores from scratching. Yet despite how miserable he must feel, Billy still walks to the front of his kennel looking for attention and love.
His condition is highly treatable and they have started him on treatment (Bravecto, Cefpodoxime, Cytopoint, & started on lime sulfur dips), but he will need to be kept totally separate from other animals until he’s completed treatment as it IS contagious.
Billy has already started medication, and with continued vet care, good nutrition, and a safe place to heal, he is expected to make a full recovery. He has every reason to grow into a happy, healthy dog if someone gives him that chance.
Instead, he’s facing euthanasia because the shelter doesn’t have the resources to continue his treatment.
Please don’t let this be the end of Billy’s story before it ever had the chance to begin.

Nena is an 8-year-old dog who came in as a stray into our shelter, but we were able to get in contact with relatives of original owner. They explained that they had rehomed Nena a few weeks ago and the original owner moved out of state. They showed interested in reclaiming the dog but if they fail to do so by EOB 06/28, Nena's medical deadline is 06/29/2026. Dog has a very large, ulcerated mass on mammary chain, suspicious of neoplasia with mild serous discharge.
Her prognosis is guarded to poor. HW negative.

Meet Bluey, a sweet adult girl who needs a second chance.
Bluey is facing significant orthopedic challenges. She has been diagnosed with bilateral hip dysplasia and has a fractured left tibial tuberosity that will require surgical repair. While her injuries are serious, Bluey is deserving of the medical care and support needed to help her heal and regain comfort.
Despite everything she's going through, Bluey continues to show a gentle spirit and resilience.
Due to her medical needs , this pet is currently at risk for euthanasia.
We are urgently seeking placement through adoption, foster, or approved rescue.

Medical
06/12/26:
Mammary development/lactating, enlarged/turgid vulva with blood-tinged vaginal discharge, ticks, evidence of chronic otitis, alopecia/erythema on dorsum/tail/muzzle/chin/hindlimbs. Decreased wt bearing of LH/healing wounds on medial tarsus. Sedated for rads and skin scrape. Gave carprofen and Bravecto.
Rads- Will need to review with another vet.
Start on clinda for probable secondary bacterial infection of the skin.
06/17/26:
Rads- reviewed with Dr. Warren. Bilateral hip dysplasia and fractured L tibial tuberosity ( will require surgical repair ).
Shelter Observations
06/13: Tail wags, eager to approach , allows pets.
06/18: very sweet girl, wags tail, allowed me to leash her and walk to the yard, roamed the yard freely, allowed pets
