📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:

9/11/2026: Lester was lying in his kennel and stood up to eat. When a leash was placed, he immediately pancaked down and would not budge. The handler squatted down, baby talked to him and petted his head. Lester nudged the handler’s hand but would not stand, then army crawled until the kennel door and would not go farther for more pets. He was left and later walked with other adults, then went back to try to walk him again after cleaning. Lester was curled up with his back to the door and would not look at the handler or lift his head, so he was left in his kennel. He did not potty overnight.

🚑 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:

9/9/2026: Weighed 72 lbs. Generalized dermatitis. HW High Positive. Vaccinated (Bordetella, Rabies, DA2PP-V) and given flea prevention.

9/10/2026: Weighed 72 lbs. Lester has old wounds on his face and small areas of alopecia throughout his body, with an overall yeast-like smell. He allowed the leash to be placed but then bucked up and bit at the leash when encouraged to walk. Assessment was allergic dermatitis/fungal dermatitis with a likely fungal (yeast) skin infection secondary to skin allergies or living conditions and nutrition. He was noted to be trying to bite prior, so the medical exam was limited.

9/3/2026: A pack of mixed breed dogs in caller yard. Using the RR in yard. Barking/charging her and fam. Usually seen around 6am and also during the evening. 2 black dogs belong to ppl @3410. “Multiple reports filed”

📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:

9/8/2026: This Dog greeted me at the back of the kennel door with dilated eyes and a tense body. I tried to move adopt her however she would not walk on the leash today. She froze and thrashed on the leash.

9/6/2026: Dog was tense, eyes dilated, shaking. Leashed and she came out of the kennel slowly ignoring the treats. Walked around the entire row where she thrashed when a dog barked at her. Going the opposite way rushing into the kennel I had open for her.

9/5/2026: Trembling body, tucked in tail, whale eyes and pinned down ears. Would not walk on leash so I muzzled and carried over into new kennel.

9/4/2026: Pancaked at back of kennel, avoiding eye contact. I stood next to her and scratched her head for a bit but she did not move. I picked her up, no muzzle needed and carried her out to the run and back. While out in the run when I came back for her she held lowered head/crouched body, and came up to me with low wagging tail before sitting against the fence and looking away from me. Picked her up and carried her in.

SWEETIE came into the shelter looking like she had recently weaned a litter of puppies. 💔 She was painfully thin — practically skin and bones — but after a few weeks of regular meals, she hardly looks like the same dog.

Now that she’s finally starting to look healthy again, she’s at risk of losing her life. SWEETIE can be euthanized as soon as Wednesday morning, 9/9. 😭

📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:

9/1/2026: Had to continue to separate during feeding time due to fighting over food. Generally wiggly and low tail wags otherwise.

8/31/2026: Mase was food aggressive if not separated from sibling, showing teeth. Passing kennel, he had front paws on the door, tail wagged, ears up, eyes dilated, and lip licked.

8/30/2026: Separated out the two skinniest puppies and left the three bigger ones. Throughout the day would randomly begin fighting and I would have to separate them, all three puppies in a pile screaming and biting each other and not letting go. All three times was bad enough to draw blood in the kennel. There was no food in the kennel and as they were already fighting in a pile I didn’t see any particular toy if they were fighting over those. For PM feeding fed in separate slow puppy feeders, but once two out of the three finished they all began fighting over what was left in the last bowl.

8/25/2026: The siblings throughout the morning were either walking around their kennel or sleeping on the cot together. Once they got some plushies, they started to play with them together. Whenever someone stops in front of their gate, they would run over with wiggling bodies, wagging tail, and soft eyes while jumping on the gate looking for attention.

8/21/2026: Wiggly body, fast wagging tail, and soft smiling mouth, was able to pick up and place in bin while cleaning their kennel with no issues.

8/20/2026: Very wiggly body, fast wagging tail and soft open smiling mouth with loose tongue. Was able to place in bin with no issues while their kennel was being cleaned.

9/1/2026: Weighed 8.1 lbs. Booster given.

8/30/2026: Weighed 8.1 lbs. Puppy is lethargic today per the ACT and refusing food. Placing on tech eval to monitor appetite. I was able to get her to eat a small amount of chicken mixed with canned dog food. Dog has yellowish watery diarrhea. Parvo tested yesterday and was negative. Will check on pup later today. Monitor appetite and stools.

8/29/2026: Was placed on tech eval for the litter having watery diarrhea with blood throughout. They seem to be eating/drinking well. Panacur prescribed for 5 days and Ponazuril one dose, then repeat one dose in 7 days. Parvo test: Negative.

💔 PUPPY PAPA’S KENNELMATE WAS ADOPTED… AND NOW THIS 6-MONTH-OLD BABY IS ALL ALONE.

PAPA #A658907 watched his kennelmate JACOB leave with his new family. ❤️** We’re thrilled Jacob made it out, but Papa was left behind**.

Now this sweet puppy sits alone in his kennel, waiting for someone to choose him too. 💔

Papa was originally found alone on the streets at only a few months old. Now he’s alone again—surrounded by barking, sleeping on a concrete floor and watching people walk past his kennel day after day.

And somehow, NO ONE HAS CHOSEN HIM. 😭

He’s only 6 months old. He’s friendly with people, friendly with other dogs and has his entire life ahead of him. He should be learning what it’s like to have a family—not growing up inside an overcrowded shelter.

🆘 SUPER URGENT — COSTCO #A659340 NEEDS OUT NOW. This adorable pocket-sized brindle boy is only 13 months old and 29 lbs, and the loud shelter environment is overwhelming him. 💔 He can be euthanized on any Monday, Wednesday or Friday morning without notice.

COSTCO was owner surrendered on 8/18 because of “OTHER PET.” Now he could lose his life simply because he hasn’t found another home in time.

And despite the name 😂**, this little COSTCO is much more convenient than the store — he’s already neutered and can go home the SAME DAY you meet him!** 🏡❤️

8/8/2026 Stray – Field: 1 mixed bl/white dog, blac and white spotted dog, left behind by tenants. abandoned. Dogs are skittish gate # 9784

📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:

9/1/2026: Approaching kennel, Pippy came to me with wiggly body and wagging tail as I babytalk to her. Took treats readily on the way to and from the kennel.

8/24/2026: Pippy will quietly lay on his bed as she presents loose body, wagging tail and soft neutral ears. Gentle when walking her on leash and will accept treats when offered.

8/22/2026: Pippy was standing in front of the kennel gate with semi-wiggling body, ears up, fast wagging, and soft eyes. She did a good job of keeping her kennel clean overnight. Pippy was walked on a loose leash and neutral to and from the outside runs and paid little attention to other dogs as she passed by their runs and kennels.

8/18/2026: Greets at the front of the kennel as she presents loose body, wagging tail and soft close mouth with her tongue out. Calm and quiet in kennel.

🚑𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:

8/30/2026: Weighed 40.0 lbs. Dog has hacking coughing and clear nasal discharge. Diagnosed CIRD. Moved to treatment room and Doxycycline 200mg SID x 10 days initiated.

8/9/2026: Weighed 40.0 lbs. Dog is high heartworm positive. It was noted at intake that this dog’s tongue hangs out the right side of mouth and when moving the tongue it only goes out the right side. Today looking in her kennel, the right side of tongue is resting outside of mouth on right side. The right lip seems to be a little droopy. High heartworm positive and possible old injury/nerve damage to right side of mouth and tongue. May be able to get a better look if the dog comes in to surgery to be spayed. No treatment at this time.

8/8/2026: Weighed 40.0 lbs. Tongue hangs awkwardly out right side of mouth. Jaw appears to be in normal alignment. Vaccinated with DA2PP-V, Bordetella and Rabies, dewormed and given flea prevention. HW High Positive.

🚨 URGENT — LONG-STAY HUSKY LAIKA NEEDS A FOSTER OR ADOPTER | HOUSTON, TX 🚨

💔 LAIKA A660638 has been at Harris County Pets since 8/17 and is now at risk of euthanasia for length of stay. With the shelter’s current policy, dogs over 15 days can be euthanized on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday morning without notice.

LAIKA is a beautiful 4-year-old Siberian Husky who is friendly with people AND other dogs. 🥹💕 She’s only 48 lbs and has been happily sharing her kennel with her new friend CHATA.

She has no idea that simply being here too long could cost her life. She deserves to leave this shelter and finally have a family of her own. 🏡❤️

We are a volunteer network dedicated to helping at-risk dogs. We are not affiliated with BARC. We connect at-risk animals at the BARC shelter with the adopters, fosters, and rescue organizations needed to save their lives. We can help coordinate out-of-state adoption through approved 501(c)3 rescues. 📝 Shelter Notes:

9/1: Brooke was standing at the front of her kennel with a neutral body, swaying tail and erect ears. She willingly walked out of her kennel but froze when they reached the door. Staff offered treats and baby talk, and she slowly walked outside. Once outside, she was hesitant to go into the grass and kept pulling back, seeming like she wanted to go back inside. Brooke stayed by the door and walked back inside once it was opened.

8/31: Brooke was standing at the front of her kennel with a semi-tense body posture, tucked tail and closed mouth. Staff baby talked to her and offered treats before leashing her. Once leashed, she slowly walked out of the kennel but stopped several times. Outside, Brooke continued to have a tucked tail, tense body posture and worried face. She appeared fearful and reluctant to walk, only walking around the grass area before slowly walking back inside.

8/30: Brooke showed timid body language and a worried face. Staff used baby talk to leash her, and she went slowly, flinching when the leash was placed on her. At first she began to walk but then froze and would not move. She had to be carried to her new kennel.

8/29: Brooke showed timid body language with a worried face. Staff got down and baby talked to her, and she approached with her tongue gently sticking out. While in the run, she would run around, but when staff approached her she would come back toward them. She had to be muzzled and carried outside and back inside.

8/28: Brooke stayed at the back of her kennel. Staff slowly leashed her, but she laid on the floor and had to be muzzled and carried to a new kennel.

💖 Brooke is a frightened 3-year-old girl who appears overwhelmed by the shelter environment, but her notes show encouraging signs that she wants to trust. She has approached staff when they get down and speak gently to her, and most recently she willingly walked out of her kennel with a neutral body and swaying tail. Once outside, however, her fear takes over and she becomes hesitant or freezes. Brooke needs a patient, quiet foster home where she can decompress, build confidence and learn that she is safe. She is also a mama whose puppies were recently old enough to be separated from her. This scared girl deserves the chance to experience a safe home of her own.

Meet ATLAS #A659682, an adorable 11-month-old pup with one of the most unique little smiles! 😂❤️ Despite everything, this happy boy still manages to make the volunteers laugh.

Atlas was brought to the shelter on 8/25 after being found as a stray. He had a microchip, but unfortunately attempts to locate his original owner were unsuccessful. Now this sweet boy needs a new family, foster or rescue to step up for him.

He’s still just a puppy with his whole life ahead of him. Please help us get him OUT and into a home where that goofy smile can make someone happy every day. 🏡💕

🆘 URGENT — JJ IS OUT OF TIME AT HARRIS COUNTY PETS IN HOUSTON, TX‼️

Don’t let all that fluff fool you — JJ is just a little guy at only 29 lbs! 🥺❤️** He was found wandering in the Memorial area of Houston, where a kind citizen temporarily took him in before he ended up at the she**lter.

Now JJ needs a foster or adopter to get him OUT. He has been there since 8/12 and can be euthanized for length of stay any Monday, Wednesday or Friday morning without notice. 💔

JJ is only 2 years old. He’s described as people-friendly, curious and a little timid, and he takes treats gently. 🥹 He deserves the chance to decompress in a real home and learn what it feels like to be safe and loved.
