A major food safety lapse has been reported in Arwal, Bihar, after worms were allegedly found in the soybean curry supplied as part of the mid-day meal to 75 schools in the Sadar block.

School authorities spotted the worms while inspecting the food before serving it to students. Headteachers subsequently stopped the meal from being served, leaving several children without their mid-day meal.

Headteachers of schools in Umairabad, Ahiyapur and Sakri Ibrahimpur** submitted complaints to the district mid-day meal authorities.

District Education Officer Asgar Ali said the matter was being investigated and that action would be taken against the concerned NGO if negligence is established.
