Currently stuck between 2 bosses in DQ3 HD 2D

Currently bashing my head against the difficulty walls that are Orochi 2nd Fight and Dying Fires. My party is currently level 25 with one level 20 MonWran I respecced from a Thief.

No matter what strategy I pull, what equipment I rearrange, or what spells I use, I can’t beat either of these two.

I’m stuck. Please help.

Update: I DID IT! I beat both of them within like an hour of each other! Had to rethink my strats as well as do some shopping for fire resistant gear in Mur.

Which 2D Mario game did you like more: Mario U or Mario Wonder?

These two very often get compared in terms of what 2D Mario means to people, and this was especially true back when Mario Wonder first launched. Both of these games also got enhanced re-releases on subsequent consoles featuring new content and more playable characters.

Order for the orbs in DQ3 HD 2D?

I just got the ship and I sailed all the way the Theddon, did the Ultimate Key stuff, and attempted the boss fight for the green orb. And it made me wanna go somewhere else instead lol.

I went for the red orb first because it happened to be the easiest, I got the merchant town set up so now I just gotta dick around the world for a bit before the game tells me to go check on that town again. So what’s the next recommended orb I should go for? I did also discover Jipang on my travels, so maybe that one? Idk.

Mario series: What do you think of the baby characters that aren’t Mario or Luigi?

They all debuted in wildly different games too:

Baby Peach = Partners in Time

Baby Wario and Baby Donkey Kong = Yoshi’s Island DS

Baby Daisy = Mario Kart Wii

Baby Rosalina = Mario Kart 8

Baby Waluigi = Mario Tennis Fever

Edit: Forgot to mention one. Baby Bowser was also from Yoshi’s Island like Mario and Luigi.

HEADS UP: The Switch version of Devil May Cry 3 is currently at its lowest price ever on the eShop!

This version was released 5 years ago and added an exclusive “Free Style” mode that lets you change combat styles on the fly. Before this version, you could only swap styles between missions or at the gold upgrade statues. It also adds local co-op to the Bloody Palace mode for those interested.

How often do you play the other modes in Mario Party Jamboree?

From left to right, the modes in these images are: Koopathlon, Bowser Kaboom Squad, Rhythm Kitchen, Toad’s Item Factory, Paratroopa Flight School, and Party Planner Trek.

I mainly went through them all to get the achievements. They’re absolutely not the reason I come back to this game.

Happy 20th anniversary to New Super Mario Bros for the DS! What do folks here think about this neo-retro classic, 2 decades later?

This game had easily one of the biggest personal impacts on my life, as it spawned a lifelong love of both Mario and 2D platformers in general. I also spent a large amount of time in the Mario vs Luigi mode with my brother back in the day.

And it’s also undeniably one of the biggest games in the entire DS library, selling nearly 31 million copies and receiving 9/10s across the board from critics.

Now in retrospect, with regards to the three sequels, you’d think by the way some people talk about them that they killed their grandma or something. But the DS original usually avoids said criticism in large part because it was the first, and the formula hadn’t been beaten into the ground yet.

My Mario sports games tier list for anyone who cares

List is slightly out of date, so here’s two more additions:

NES Open Tournament Golf = C tier between Mario Golf GBC and Sports Mix

Mario Tennis Fever = A tier between Toadstool Tour and Hoops

Media that James has consumed that features an eyebrow raising recurring theme

And for those who can’t see the images for whatever reason:

  1. Fire Emblem Three Houses (2019)

  2. Persona 5 (2016)

  3. That’s My Boy (2012)

Happy 3rd anniversary to Zelda Tears of the Kingdom! What do folks here think of this system defining game?

This was easily the most anticipated first party game during the Switch 1 generation alongside Metroid Prime 4. From its initial reveal at E3 2019 all the way to its release in May 2023, Tears of the Kingdom was always going to do well. After all, it was the sequel to the most anticipated and universally acclaimed Nintendo game of the entire 2010s. This was also Nintendo’s first $70 game, for better or worse. As for me? I bought it the day after I graduated college, and I ended up getting distracted by other things. Whoops. I got past the tutorial islands before my graduate degree program started in June and I was consumed by that for the next several months. In that time I mainly dabbled in more pick-up-and-play titles for my free time.

Edit: Updated for added clarity.

What do you think about Wolf O’Donnell as a character?

He’s the classic archrival character to Fox McCloud, and the leader of his own ragtag mercenary flight team Star Wolf. He was originally supposed to appear in Star Fox 2, but that game was cancelled and the idea was instead carried over into Star Fox 64.

I think he’s a fun rival. He has a kickass theme song, and he’s one of my mains in the Smash series.

Thoughts on Mario Tennis Fever being $70?

Asking now because Nintendo’s quarterly financials just dropped and Tennis was nowhere to be seen in those reports. Game came out in mid-February and the reports are as of March 31st, 2026. For a new exclusive Mario game launching in the first year of a brand new Nintendo console, that sure is something. And this is only the second Switch 2 exclusive Mario game after Mario Kart World.

I can’t decide if Life was a good mother or not…

Happy Mother’s Day everyone! Life is the mother of New Death, and the wife of Old Death (whom New Death killed to take on the Death role). But since New Death was mucking up the Dead Worlds, she instructed Finn and Jake to kill her son.

In Final Fantasy 7 Remake (2020), there’s this side character from the wh*re house section that gets their own chapter and backstory. This is a reference to the fact that this game is a glorified 30 hour prologue and we need to pad out the runtime somehow.

I’ve at least tried out Star Fox 1, 2, 64, Command, 64 3D, Zero, and Guard. So basically all of them minus the two GameCube games.

This new design has had only 2 major appearances: DK Bananza and Mario Tennis Fever. But unlike DK himself, Diddy’s voice actor didn’t get changed.

u/Asad_Farooqui — 17 days ago

Mario Tennis 64 = The last physical and playable appearance of DK Junior for 20 years.

Mario Golf Toadstool Tour = The first time Diddy Kong became part of the Mario series since Rare and Nintendo parted ways.

Mario Power Tennis = Introduced DK and Diddy’s longtime voice actors Takashi Nagasako (since been replaced) and Katsumi Suzuki.

Mario Superstar Baseball = Gave the world “Diddy Survivors.”

Mario Super Sluggers = The last physical appearances of King K. Rool and the Kritters for a very long time. Also the final physical appearances of Tiny Kong and Baby Donkey Kong to this day.

Mario Tennis Fever = The first time we get to play as the new Diddy Kong from Bananza.

Edit: Made some small additions.
