Had my 2nd hysteroscopy today
I had my second hysteroscopy today for my fibroids. My first one was about 10 years ago and that one was also done under general anesthesia with a breathing tube down my throat.
Today’s procedure was done under general anesthesia at UC San Diego in La Jolla at the outpatient surgery center. I’m a healthy, active Black (1/2 Arab) woman, 5’5”, 135 lbs. I eat clean and I’m a former athlete, just for reference.
I’ve had tissue samples taken twice before at my OB/GYN’s office and both times I left feeling worse than I did after giving birth. The numbing and pain medication did absolutely nothing for me. Honestly, it felt barbaric.
Sometimes I think about how barbaric some of the procedures we go through as women can be. We are strong and we have a high tolerance for pain because of everything our bodies go through, but that doesn’t mean we should have to endure unnecessary pain.
There are Change.org petitions and efforts fighting for anesthesia to be offered for these types of gynecological procedures, and I really hope things continue to change.
I just wanted to share my experience. I pray for anyone going through fibroids or any of these procedures.
Other than some light bleeding, I actually feel pretty okay tonight.
FBI Director Patel’s $10M defamation lawsuit was dismissed over jurisdiction
Kash Patel sued blogger Jim Stewartson for defamation in Nevada, where Patel lives, over a series of online accusations. Patel initially won a default judgment after Stewartson didn’t respond, but it was later thrown out when Stewartson argued that Nevada courts didn’t have personal jurisdiction over him because he lives in California and his posts weren’t specifically aimed at Nevada.
The judge agreed and dismissed the case without ever ruling on whether the statements were true or false. The case was dismissed over jurisdiction, not the merits. Patel is also an attorney, which makes the filing error a little surprising, even if his legal team handled the case.
Is it okay to have Screen Time limits for my 18-year-old with high-functioning autism?
I could really use some advice from parents who have older kids with high-functioning autism.
My son is 18 and starts college at a public university this fall. If I let him, he would watch TV and be on his iPhone all day, every day. He’ll even sneak downstairs at 3am after we’ve gone to bed just to watch TV. It honestly feels more like an addiction than just enjoying screens.
I have Screen Time limits on his phone, but I feel guilty sometimes because he’s 18. Am I being too controlling, or is it okay to still have those limits in place?
The reason I struggle with this is because I’ve spent my whole life advocating for him. He was nonverbal when he was little, and we were told he’d probably only read at about a 5-year-old level for the rest of his life. He proved everyone wrong. He graduated from high school with a 3.5 GPA and was accepted to a public university. I’m so proud of everything he’s accomplished.
I don’t want to hold him back, but I also don’t want to remove the structure that’s helped him get this far.
Has anyone else been through this? Do you still use Screen Time limits or other rules with your 18-year-old? How did you know when it was time to step back?
I’d really appreciate hearing what worked for your family.
DNA confirms former CPS teacher fathered 15-year-old student’s child
Former Chicago, Illinois teacher assigned to help a 15-year-old special needs student in the 1970s sexually abused her. She said he told her, “Nobody’s going to believe a Black little girl from the projects.”
More than 40 years later, DNA confirmed he fathered her daughter. His own daughter, who also says he sexually abused her, gave her DNA to help identify him.
Richard Neff is still alive and resides in North Carolina (age mid 70s), but prosecutors say they cannot file criminal charges because the statute of limitations has expired.
