I like many others first experienced A Song of Ice and Fire with popular HBO series Game of Thrones. From that I moved to novels and the rich world that Martin created was truly put into focus. So many pov characters, side characters, locations and lore to absorb and get lost in. His works have inspired me to be creative.

On August 3rd 2026 Martin posted on his Not a Blog and it really hit me. “I have lost friends.   Battled sadness and depression.   The worst may be yet to come.   I turned seventy-seven last September, and I tell you, getting old is no fun.   But there have been amazing times as well

I feel too often we forget the person behind the art. I understand the frustrations of the series is not complete, but we as fans have to remember that without Martin his entire fantasy world would not exist.

So I am choosing to embrace the books and other media and just be a fan who does not tear down someone who creates art just because he is not creating the art fast enough. Everyone can have an opinion, but let us celebrate A Song of Ice and Fire instead every other comment “Release Winds”
