[A4A] Let's reboot the DC universe!

Hello! So, this is a bit of a long shot, but I'm excited to see if anyone reaches out.

My idea is that we work together to establish a hard reboot of the DC universe! Character reinterpretations can pull from any canon or medium, and of course we'll add some original twists on established lore. I'd like to have this set in DC's modern day, though of course we can do RPs in the past of our universe as well. It would probably be a series of short RPs playing different characters as we work together to come up with the world.

This would require a good deal of planning before we start, but I'm also a big fan of improv, so we don't have to have every little detail figured out before we start.

To give you a sense of my favorite parts of DC, my favorite comic is YJ98 and my favorite character is Jon Kent. What about you?

I'm not particularly interested in writing romance, but background and canon ships are alright. I'd like to do some character and relationship studies looking at how the changes of the reboot have affected them. It's alright if characters are OOC, because this is a reboot- these aren't the canon characters at all. As long as they're internally consistent, I'm happy.

I hope to hear from you soon!

Swapstuck, but we actually figure out how the session would go from beginning to end

So, I love swapstucks, but most of the ones I've seen are just art or character studies. Which is great, of course, but wouldn't it be cool to actually go through and do a total rewrite of Homestuck proper, examining how the session would actually go?

It would probably end up just being an outline, but even that would be super cool. I think this would be a really fun project, and if people are interested I can make a discord or something and we can all chat.

For classpects, I think to keep things simple we'd keep the moon and aspect and swap the class depending on their new role/personality. Everyone would stay in their groups (beta kids swapped with beta kids, etc) and we could figure things out from there.

Edit: I made the discord! https://discord.gg/3MD5pKSQJ7

Looking for co-writer for short story universe!

Genre/s: Superhero OR Urban Fantasy

Goals/expectations/commitment: Casual

Writing/experience level: Intermediate or advanced

Meeting place: Discord

Hello! I'm Gary, a short story writer. I work best when I have someone to brainstorm with, so I'm looking for a co-writer to help me build a world that really feels alive and that we could both write stories in. I'm imagining a world of broad, sweeping scope, so we both could write about many different characters and experiment with different perspectives.

I don't have anything written or planned yet, since a head start seems unfair, so I'd love to hear your ideas. As for genre, my top choice would be superhero, but I'd also love to do a urban fantasy setting with a unique magic system. I do tend towards darker themes, but nothing extreme. Let me know if you're interested!

Tarot as Writing Prompts

Hello! I've been reading tarot for a while now, mainly at halloween parties, and I love doing it but I hate doing readings for myself- I'm already very introspective, so most of the time I just end up going back over stuff I already knew.

Recently, I found a way of reading tarot that seems really fun and interesting, but I haven't had much success with it yet. I've been using tarot to do complex spreads that give me ideas for characters, plot, setting, etc for an original story. I've come up with lots of interesting ideas like this, but for some reason they never stick long enough to actually make anything the way ideas from other sources do.

Have any of you used tarot for writing before? How successful were you in your attempts?

Advice on creating tarot-based TTRPG

I've seen some games that use tarot instead of dice before, but they're generally "draw a card and look up what that result means on a chart". My goal is to design a game where the world and plot are constructed by the GM's legitimate interpretation of the symbolism of the cards, using them as complex writing prompts to create a story.

My main question is this: should I try to design a system that doesn't restrict the GM to what's in the cards, or should I lean into the "fate" aesthetic and have the limited options/heavy guidance be the game's gimmick?

In addition, I'm trying to decide if the players should draw cards to determine the outcome of their actions as well. It would leave a lot more room for abuse, since there wouldn't be a definite pass or fail and it would be up to the player to decide, but having them roll dice while the DM is doing complicated spreads seems a bit lopsided.

Practicing with new oracle deck!

Hello! I got some new oracle decks a while ago, and while the rest have been fairly easy to figure out and use, I'm having some trouble with the most complex one. The cards interact in so many different ways that it's difficult to know what to focus on.

The deck itself is the wild unknown alchemy deck. More complex spreads or questions are welcome- no yes or no, that defeats the purpose of what I'm practicing.

No timeframes, health, or legal questions. I'd prefer that romance questions be a bit more complex than "do they like me", since I've done that a lot and I feel it's not helpful for practice.

Edit: Closed for now!

Marketing specialist/songwriter looking for a band!

Hello! I'm planning on going into marketing and want to get more experience with the promotion and social media side of things, as well as help make some great music. To that end, I'd like to either join a band or form one myself.

Ideally, the genre would be alternative rock, though of course we can experiment with different genres and influences. Making music is a collaborative process, and I'd love it if everyone brought their own touch to a song.

If you're interested, send me a message with a bit about yourself and a sample of your work! Here are some of my songs: https://docs.google.com/document/d/18Z9F_kTKaVuZHwzNKQFBiq5d8Q3V0LqxRs0U_mvFdgY/edit?usp=sharing

[Online][VtM/WoD] Vampire heist oneshot/possible campaign

Hello! I'm looking to try out being a storyteller, so I thought I'd kick things off with a oneshot that has the potential to turn into a chronicle.

In the backwater city of Tulsa, Oklahoma, darkness lurks. It's not glamorous, but the Camarilla still holds the city in an iron grip- or so they think. You are one of the few vampires that still clings to morality, but when an old "friend" calls in a non-negotiable favor, will you be able to complete her mission with your soul intact?

A few notes:

- We'll be using lines and veils for safety tools.
- While your character is indebted to a Camarilla vampire, they don't have to be one themselves. This may make the story more difficult, though.
- You don't need to have every aspect of your character's backstory planned out for the initial oneshot, but you should have a good base to build off of if things progress.
- Aside from the standard VtM warnings, this game will feature child abuse, depression, and suicidal ideation.
- I'm in CST and taking a break for the summer semester, so as long as it's not too late at night I'm pretty much open. I'd like to do this pretty soon to keep the momentum going.

DM me if you're interested, and let me know if you have any questions!

Hi! So, I've been reading comics for a while, but very inconsistently. I've found that some of my favorite reading has been just picking something up and jumping in- it's a great way to find new characters. My question is if anyone would be interested in a book club for semi-random (we'd probably get five and then have people vote, so not totally random) DC runs. Just for reference, here's the five I got randomly:

- Cyborg (2023)
- The Outsiders (1985)
- Ghost-Maker/Clownhunter
- Wonder Woman (2023)
- Doc Savage (1987)

We'd probably read 4-6 issues a week, depending on the length of the run. Let me know if you'd be interested!

Not an excuse to bash characters or plot developments. How would you reinterpret existing characters and arcs in new ways (think DC's Absolute universe) in order to tell a story with the same characters and general premise, but different details? Personally, I think characters' classpects being changed as a result of their different personalities could be really interesting, but I'm not sure how I'd want those personalities to change. Oh, and to really switch things up, I'd kill off one of the kids near the end of the comic- probably Jade, I think her dying alone in a heroic sacrifice would be such a tragic end to her arc.

Hello! I'm looking for players for a campaign set in the world of DCeased. The goal would be to create a non-monetized Actual Play, to be posted on ao3 and possibly other sites, so a decent mic is necessary.

In this game, players will take on the role of a DC comics character attempting to survive the zombie apocalypse. This will likely use the Mutants & Masterminds playbook, but I'm also open to creating an original TTRPG if players think that that would be a better fit.

This will be a friendly, inclusive table that prioritizes story and roleplaying. Strong familiarity with and enthusiasm for DC is required.

In addition to players, I'm looking for an audio editor and an assistant to help me plan and make sure I'm understanding characters' backstories if I haven't read many of their comics. If you're interested in either of these positions, comment below!

Here's the player application: https://forms.gle/pCs9vZ1we1FpBirk6

  • Genre/s: Open to discussion, but most likely superhero
  • Goals/expectations/commitment: Moderate commitment, weekly posting
  • Writing/experience level: Preferably more than five years of hobby writing
  • Meeting place: Discord
  • Max size: 20

Hello! I'm looking to form a group interested in creating a shared universe inspired by comic books. Each writer or team of writers would get their own "run", a story focusing on an original character, which would be updated with an "issue" (chapter) weekly. Each run would be focused on a single character or group, but characters would all exist in a shared world and could appear in any run. Nobody would own a character, and if someone got tired of writing a character they could switch to a new run and a new writer could take over.

This format lends itself most obviously to a superhero story, of course, but I'm open to fantasy or sci-fi, anything with strong worldbuilding and an expansive cast of unique characters. There would be a worldbuilding phase before we actually started writing anything to establish the basic world. This would be posted on ao3, though if anyone else has a suggestion for another site I'm open to it.

Comment or message me if you have any questions or are interested! Let me know:

- What genre you'd be interested in
- Your writing experience
- A bit about yourself

So, TV shows with musical numbers have been a thing forever, but those are just that- shows with musical numbers. They aren't primarily defined by the music, and that's not the main medium for storytelling. But I was listening to 36 Questions the other day, and I got to thinking: wouldn't that audio-only musical medium be perfect for a musical that's released in episodic format?

I went looking for musicals that would fall into this category, and the closest I found was of course Epic, with its album releases that slowly tell a story. It was hugely successful, and I think that that was in part because of that format. Everyone loves having something to look forward to, after all! Still, to be purely episodic, I think it would have to be smaller chunks more frequently, maybe one song a week.

What do you guys think? I feel like it would be a lot easier for amateur musical writers like myself, since there's a schedule to follow and immediate feedback. What kind of stories do you guys think would be told well in this format?

Let me know if you're interested in this format, maybe we could even form a brainstorming group or work together to make them!
