We went to pick up a barn find truck yesterday and Buddy stayed in my SUV. As soon as I opened the hatch, he bolted out and went to sniff the perimeter. No amount of No or Sit of Come back worked until the perimeter had been sniffed. Then he hopped in and gave me a look like “all clear”

He knew I was upset but he did his job in his mind.

It wasn’t a command or recall issue, it was him saying he was smarter than me. Not happy. Aside from scolding and putting them up, what do you do when they are out of reach?
