Remembering Yuen Hop

Memorial Day is coming up in the United States, a day designated to mourn those who died while serving in the US military. I'd like to take a moment to remember Yuen Hop, a Chinese-American gunner who served in WW2.

https://ww2db.com/person_bio.php?person_id=1214

He was shot down in combat in December 1944, captured, and was murdered by the Nazi SS. His remains were identified in 2024 and were sent home to California for a military burial in 2025.

Tell MCPS to fully staff school libraries

While Montgomery County Council signaled its intent to fund a large portion of next year’s MCPS budget, it’s disheartening that it still fell short, creating a gap of about $36 million. School library programs need your help as media assistants remain on the chopping block.

What are the potential impacts of no media assistant? Reduction/elimination of open library access to students throughout the school day, elimination of timely and efficient tech support for both staff & students, and likely more limited media classes as the media specialist will be without support on all collection management tasks (processing new materials, organization/shelving). It will drastically change the function of the media center. A single person cannot run the circulation desk, help students with follow up instructional tasks, show students where to find books, and respond to walk-in tech requests at the same time.

What can you do if you want to show support? Write to Superintendent Thomas Taylor (Thomas_W_Taylor@mcpsmd.org) and the Board of Education (boe@mcpsmd.org) and encourage them to fully staff school media centers. Stress the impact to students: less access to the library, delayed service on technology necessary for instructional tasks, and less individual attention to help students find books that will encourage their growth as lifelong readers. If you're a PTA member, consider getting the word out to your community.

Sign this [petition](https://www.change.org/p/tell-mcps-to-fully-staff-school-libraries) to advocate for keeping our essential library media assistants in our schools and to fully staff school libraries!

Tsung-Dao Lee & Chen-Ning Yang

In the 20th century these two gentlemen made a discovery that fundamentally changed the way we understand physics.

Full disclosure I am not a physicist so if anyone who is familiar with this topic please don’t be mad if I got the science wrong 😂.

So historically, it was believed that “conservation law” is a universal law of physics. In simple terms, if a system changes from one state to another the total value of the property will remain constant. On a basic level if an explosion takes place the total energy in that environment is still the same pre and post explosion. The only thing that changes is the form in which energy exist I.e. heat turns into sound and kinetic energy.

These two men proved that this law does not apply in quantum mechanics. Quantum mechanics is the framework that governs the scientific law at a subatomic levels. Anything above Newtonian laws of physics apply.

What they discovered was that weak nuclear force does not have this behaviour. It does not display a “mirror” property or that nature has an inherent bias. It’s bit like a car that can’t turn left 😂 when most systems in nature allows u to move in equal and opposite direction.

They both won a noble at the age of 31 and 35 respectively (which is incredibly young for science).

Special mention should also go to Chien Shiung Wu who designed experiments that proved the Tsung-Dao Lee & Chen-Ning Yang theory that conservative theory does not hold true universally.

Unfortunately all three have passed away but their work will always be ground breaking.

中國青年黨 Young China Party statement on Mainland Chinese children participating in Russian "Successors of Victory" parade in 海參崴 "Vladivostok"

Source: https://www.instagram.com/p/DYMmwUmANHF/

On May 3, in Vladivostok, our national territory occupied by Russia, a children’s parade event themed “Successors of Victory” was held to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the Soviet victory in the Great Patriotic War. In addition to Russian local students, first-grade elementary school students from mainland China and Laos were also invited to participate. This was also the first time that children from mainland China had participated in this special event.

Vladivostok was originally our national territory. Due to the Convention of Peking in 1860, together with another 400,000 square kilometers of land east of the Ussuri River, it was ceded by the Qing government to Tsarist Russia, and this situation has continued to the present day. In addition to losing land territory, China also lost its largest island, Sakhalin, as well as access to the Sea of Japan. From that point onward, Heilongjiang and Jilin became inland provinces. Tsarist Russia renamed “Haishenwai” to “Vladivostok,” which in Russian means “Conquer the East.”

On March 10, 1926, our party convened the “Anti-Russian Support for Overseas Chinese Conference” at the Third Auditorium of Peking University to support our overseas Chinese compatriots in Russia. Since Soviet Russia implemented communism, it had relentlessly exploited our overseas Chinese in Russia and even treated human life with utter disregard. Among the worst atrocities was the murder of the entire family of Jin Shisheng, former president of the General Association of Overseas Chinese in Russia.

A hundred years have passed. The voices of our party’s predecessors condemning Soviet Russia still ring in our ears, yet who could have imagined that one hundred years later, there would be a group of adults who forget their ancestors and heritage, bringing ignorant children onto this land soaked with the blood of countless Chinese compatriots. This is behavior that forgets one’s roots and betrays one’s nation and homeland; it is an act of disregarding national humiliation and desecrating the memory of compatriots who died tragic deaths!

To forget history is equivalent to betrayal. Our party strongly condemns this. Our party hopes that our fellow compatriots will never forget the immense disasters Tsarist Russia brought upon our nation, and that this history will be properly passed down, so as to console the spirits of our compatriots who died tragically.

What are your thoughts on Leviticus 25:44-46 "Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves...and they will become your property. You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life"?

is this Bible verse unfit and outdated for a modern civilized society?
