Autistic people are less likely to be lonely

Right now so many neurotypicals are dropping like flies because they can't stand being lonely. However, autistic people are more adapted to the modern environment. That's something that definitely makes me proud to be autistic.

I love how autistic people want to make the world a better more fair place

One thing about meeting autistic people is that we largely want the world to be a better place. I think even though some autistic people have different values, we generally have good intentions. We don't care about fame or fortune and would rather help people instead. I love how we tend to be idealistic and feel happy about helping others even when most of the world would rather reject us. Does anyone else feel the same way?

Having neurodivergent female friends is the best

I love my autistic/ND female friends. We're loyal, smart, incredibly witty. We're also very patient, kind, and tolerant. Best of all, we don't care about social status or superficial things, and ZERO drama. If you have ND female friends, tell them that you love them today.

A woman having only male friends is more of a red flag than a woman having no friends

We've all heard the saying if someone has zero friends, run. I don't really agree. I'd actually argue that a woman who exclusively has male friends is a trickier social situation to navigate than one who has no friends at all.

A woman having no friends might mean she's introverted or shy. A woman having only male friends means that she's someone who either doesn't get along with woman or chooses deliberately not to.

Let's consider a woman with no friends. Maybe she just moved to a new city. Maybe she's introverted and hasn't found her people yet. Maybe she had a falling out with a friend group and is starting fresh. The slate is blank, and there's an honest vulnerability to that. You can build something real.

Most of the time, a woman only having male friends means she's desperate for attention and male approval. I stay away from women who have all male friends because it means she always needs to be the center of attention.

There's usually a complete lack of self-awareness there. Someone who has only ever had male friends may not see any issue with the pattern at all, which makes it harder to grow together socially.

So when I see a woman with all or mostly guy friends, I stay far away because it's not worth it.

Does anyone else agree?

Is reaching out to someone you haven't seen for several years appropriate or inappropriate

I saw that someone from my high school was traveling in my area and my friend suggested I reach out to her. I feel like it would be a bad idea because it makes you look like you're recruiting someone to a MLM scheme. Did anyone here who reach out for legitimate reasons and if so, how did it go?

How can I help a friend with bipolar away from me?

I have a friend (platonic) who I believe who is having a manic episode. He has never told me he has bipolar (and has denied it explicitly) but I have reasons to believe that he is. In February/March, he was talking to me about starting a company, and he actually did get it registered. After that, I didn't hear him for a few months. In May, he sent me and his mailing list an incredibly long and concerning email. It was written in all caps, had grandiose delusions, accused someone of molesting him as a kid, and also contained his SSN.

I haven't heard from him since then despite trying to email him multiple times. I tried googling him to see if I could find any answers, and I saw that he had been arrested twice last month for drug abuse. (Maybe he is just having a psychotic drug episode instead.) I'm nowhere near where he lives so is there any way I could help him? The location is in Santa Clara county, California by the way.

My sister has become delusional after moving to the Bay

My sister (32F) has always been very mediocre person. She's always been not particularly bright (she took 10 years to graduate undergrad), and she was very awkward. After graduating from her masters in social work, she moved to the Bay to be closer to some online friends. For those of you who don't know, the Bay has a lopsided gender ratio due to the tech industry so the average woman is going to get a ton of attention.

After hanging out with tech bros and going to hacker events (despite not having any technical skills), she has some delusional ideas about her looks and intelligence. She started dating some married (polyamorous) guy and basically slept her way into having an HR position at his startup.

Now she acts like she's hot shit and is constantly bragging about the random things she does, and she's even planning on going to Burning Man sometime. But at any rate, this job/dating situation is going to blow up in her face and she's not going to be able to justify living in such an expensive area.

If I block someone and we're in a group chat, can they see when I send a message or react?

I blocked someone who is in a group chat with me. Can they still see my messages?

“Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.” -Eleanor Roosevelt

I love how autistic people have great minds. Neurotypicals could never!

I graduated with a 2.8 GPA and got into a MSW program

I graduated with a 2.8 GPA after failing several semester in a row due to my ADHD. It took me 6 years of coursework to graduate and I took a few semesters off.

  • I mentioned my struggles with ADHD on my resume and emphasized having a positive trend
  • I volunteered at Crisis Text Line and had a couple hundred hours under my belt. This was helpful regardless because I wanted evidence that graduate school was the right fit for me
  • I had some social work adjacent jobs and emphasized the connection to social work

My advice? Don't bother applying to the fancy name brand private schools. I didn't get accepted by any and even if I did, they'd be more expensive than the other options. There are plenty of other schools willing to accept someone with a subpar GPA.

Do you know anyone who had a successful 20s and managed to ruin their lives after that?

I'm curious if you know anyone who spent some time establishing something good, only for it to all go down the drain.

What are some good examples of autistic people being more tethered to reality?

Someone used this term to describe autistic people and I feel like it is such a great way of describing autism.

  • Attention to detail and better performance in fields requiring precision
  • We're less likely to fall for logical fallacies and religion
  • We care about the truth of something, not who says it
  • We're way less likely to bully people over arbitrary things and participate in gossip
  • We don't believe in conspiracy theories

Does anyone else have any other examples?
