I have this launchd agent to start up the app copyparty. When I try to access my Downloads folder in copyparty (http://localhost:3923/), In my copyparty.log file it says [PermissionError] [Errno 1] Operation not permitted: b'/Users/user/Downloads', '/Downloads'". It didn't work when I changed the agent into a daemon. When I run the command in the terminal, I can access the Downloads folder just fine: copyparty -v /Users/user::A --see-dots -lo /Users/user/Library/Logs/copyparty.log.

When connecting to my thinkpad X1 carbon gen 13 to my monitor (4k 240hz) via USB-C, there are varying amounts of static that flicker on the screen, sometimes a lot sometimes a little or none. The same cable and monitor doesn't have issues with my mac mini or a non thinkpad laptop (both can do 4k 240hz). I'm running linux (nixos).

I installed an Ubuntu VM in parallels, and set the color profile in it to Display P3.icc downloaded from here. On chrome in the VM, the colors didn't show properly on this test page. the colors are shown correctly in chrome-based browsers on macOS.

I hate using one monitor each for linux and macOS, I tried Sunshine to stream my mac to linux (since I use linux more), setting 4k 240hz (which my monitor supports) and full color (yuv 444) in Moonlight but it said that 444 color is not supported, and the colors look way off compared to macOS plugged directly in the monitor. There doesn't seem to be a way to make it work on Sunshine.

I want to switch between apps on my mac (Pixelmator Pro is mac only) and my linux PC instantly on my single 4k 240hz monitor. I want the switching to be instant (no noticeable delay between switching between one device to another) and I don't want resolution nor refresh rate compromised (I don't mind slight latency compromises). These are the options I looked at:

• remote desktop software: 4k 240hz requires too much bandwidth and gets compromised over network connection speeds, not to mention high latency.
• KVM switch hardware: I tried a few different ones and returned all of them, due to delays for switching devices. My screen would be black for up to a few seconds (same with just switching the inputs on the monitor itself).
  • I currently use a cheap one from ebay with DDM, which lets me switch my mice and keyboards instantly (it only switches USB HID devices instantly due to how it works).
• Virtual machines: I would run a linux VM in a mac but macOS has its own hotkeys, and the menu bar shows when you move the cursor to the top, among other ways you notice the host OS. I use Linux much more.

Any other ideas? I'm currently using two monitors, one for each device but I don't like turning my head from one monitor to another.

This is the error I have when trying to rebuild my nix darwin configuration. I use kitty terminal, and in macOS settings I gave it full disk access and access to update other apps (app management).

I love how I can have my whole operating system configuration defined deterministically with configuration files, but what I believe is a serious flaw, is when you choose the "unstable" channel, the channel for receiving the latest packages rather than ones up to 6 months old: stable. Unstable package often build dependencies on device, and I've often faced build failures, why are new package versions given if they fail to build?!

Why can't Nixpkgs backend ensure that new package versions build successfully before shipping them to end users?! It would take a lot of work to do so, but I can't think of any other distros that have this problem: where installing a new package version that came out a few days or even a week ago, has a chance of failing after its made available in the distro's official package manager.

There are a handful of workarounds for your NixOS configuration in this case, but it happens too often for me and I shouldn't have to edit my config for to work around it.
