Why do so many humanoid home robots demonstrate folding laundry?

I’ve noticed that a lot of humanoid robot demos, especially for home robots, use laundry folding as a showcase task.

I’m curious why this task is so common. Is folding clothes considered a particularly good benchmark because it involves deformable objects, perception, dexterity, and planning? Or is it mainly used because it is an easy-to-understand household chore for the general public?

Misidentification

The screenshot added is of an enquiry I had for Deepseek.
I enquired from DeepSeek information about World Cup scheduling and asked to convert it in European time zone.
It got it wrong on 3 first answers only after insisting it got it right.
I have told it that I did the same exercise on Copilot and Mistral and only the latter got it right from the first time.
It then created table comparing itself to Copilot and Mistral and it identified itself as Claude.
So I asked it why it identified itself as Claude? I never mentioned Claude in the conversation.
I’ve added the answer from Deepseek, how does an AI make such a mistake? Is this hallucination or is it leaching off anthropic?

Would you use a body doubling app if it was completely text-based? (No video cameras/calls)

Body doubling app called Mallow

u/Diligent_Rabbit7740 — 15 days ago

[Launch] Mallow: Task breaker for ADHD

Mallow is a task breaker for people who get overwhelmed by daily chores. Instead of a flat to-do list, a cute cat breaks each task into small, doable steps and walks you through them.

Try it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=taskparalysis.burnout.adhd

Pricing: Freemium

It's different from Todoist as those apps track tasks but expect you to break them down and stay motivated yourself. Mallow lowers the "I don't know where to start" barrier that hits many people.

It'd really make my day if you let me know your feedback when you tried it out ... I'll respond to all messages. Thanks

ive basically been scammed by perplexity

i bought a 1yr pplx subscription last july, and it is literally not the same product at all.

dumb decision on my part and ive learned my lesson (never buy 1 year subscriptions especially for fast moving industries)

like they've taken away so many features, and lowk, its not even that much more useful than other web searches. tbf, i still think pplx websearch is superior to claude/chatgpt, but its not so much better that its worth paying for.

The AI world is splitting into two camps — US and China. Will we see a mass shift?

so i've been watching the AI space for a while and i'm starting to see a clear pattern

the market is basically splitting into two sides now.

on one side — US companies: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google. on the other — Chinese models: DeepSeek, Kimi Qwen.

DeepSeek is already gaining serious traction. they dropped DeepSeek Code, they keep releasing new versions. Kimi is also getting better and better. these aren't just "cheap clones" anymore — they're actually competitive.

but here's the thing — the price gap is huge. US models are 5 to 10 times more expensive. and for what? a slightly better response? most people don't need that. so i'm wondering — are we about to see a massive shift? like when users realize they're paying for a brand name, not for actual value, will they start switching to Chinese models?

i think it's coming, maybe in the next 2-3 years, maybe sooner.

 what do you guys think?

OpenClaw - the hype train has moved on

It is really amazing to see how much interest in OpenClaw has gone down. Basically, it is non-existent in the general market as of today.

Now, I know a lot of people say that people don't need to search for OpenClaw on Google because they already have OpenClaw. It's not something you need to keep searching for.

But with all due respect, this argument is pretty weak, as it is still very obvious to see that most people don't use OpenClaw today...
it's just that the hype train has moved on to the next destination.

Really hope Fable 5 was distilled already by deepseek or others

Most likely didn't happen because it was up for only a few days but stuff like this is why open source is the best

Ramming Gemini down our throats is the last straw

Well done Google you've finally succeeded in alienating your user-base.

I've been all in on Google for going on 15 years now. I was a massive advocate for everything Google. I happily bought all of my family Android phones. No Spotify for me, Google Play Music then YouTube Music. Family subscription. I'm an Android developer. Been building apps exclusively for Android since 2012.

I've had enough. I've accepted the contracts we've made between us when I signed up to your various services. I've been ok with handing you my data in return for the services you provide. They've always been outstanding. Until now.

Your insistence on ramming Gemini in to everything I use is the ultimate in blind enshitifacation. I'm in my car using Android Auto. I ask it to navigate me somewhere and am greeted with the chirpy "Hi I'm Gemini, i'm looking forward to making your life fantastic!!!" voice of something I neither want or asked for. I ask this fucker if I can navigate home like I've done thousands of times before and I discover that the previously highly capable assistant has suddenly become a half-wit who says "Sorry I don't know how to help with that". A couple of back and forths later he tells me that I can do that if I set my home address in Gemini! I've already set it up in Google Maps. I just want to go somewhere. In what way is this an improvement?

Then my Google home keeps pestering me to upgrade it to Gemini. Yes of course! My experience so far has been fantastic! Fuck that. I've unsubscribed from my home premium that I've had since 2018 and am beginning the slow process of de-googling my life. I may even move to iphone, after all my experience of using Macs has been flawless.

I couldn't care if anybody reads this. I just needed to get it off my chest.

Introducing Claude Fable 5

Introducing Claude Fable 5: a Mythos-class model that we've made safe for general use. Its capabilities exceed those of any model we've ever made generally available.

Fable 5 is state of the art on nearly all tested benchmarks, with exceptional performance in software engineering, knowledge work, scientific research, and vision. It can run for days, and the longer the task, the larger its lead over our other models.

Fable 5 launches today alongside Claude Mythos 5. The two share the same underlying model, but Mythos 5, so far deployed only through Project Glasswing, has the safeguards lifted in some areas. The safeguards are what distinguish the two, and why we've given them different names.

Releasing a model this capable comes with risks. Without safeguards, Fable 5's capabilities in areas like cybersecurity could be misused to cause serious damage. So when Fable's classifiers detect a request related to cybersecurity, biology and chemistry, or distillation, the response is handled by Claude Opus 4.8, our next-most-capable model. Users are informed whenever this occurs, more than 95% of sessions involve no fallback at all, and performance everywhere else is unaffected. We'll keep refining the safeguards to reduce false positives.

Claude Fable 5 is available today on paid plans, in Claude Code, on the Claude API, and all major cloud platforms. Through June 22, it's included in paid Claude plans at no additional cost.

Claude Mythos 5 is available to Glasswing partners, with a broader trusted access program to follow.
